    Old Pool

The walls look good, from what I can tell! You're right that there is a lot cosmetically that I'm not a fan of. Just not sure how much money I want to dump into it. The guy that opened our pool (I know I know, but don't worry no chemicals! We do that) mentioned that he had some "frustrations"...

    Old Pool

Last year my husband and I bought a house with a pool. It is a vinyl liner pool installed in the mid-1970s. I've looked around and can find plenty of information on how often a pool liner needs replacing, but not much more about other issues that could potentially crop up when owning an older...

First TF-100 test results, help with next steps

Oh that's good news. I'll try this, and the overnight test that pwrstrk posted. If I fail that I'll know something is up. Thanks for the advice, glad to know I'm not completely off base! I might get the hang of this pool thing after all :-D

First TF-100 test results, help with next steps

Crystal clear blue! I didn't mention this but the pool was just opened last week. Through the shock process from the pool guy the green swamp turned into a gorgeous sparkly blue and has stayed that way, but I still felt that slippery spot on the wall.

First TF-100 test results, help with next steps

I got my TF-100 test kit in the mail today and went to town. I'm pretty sure I know what my next steps are supposed to be, but I figured I'd post here to make sure I'm not messing anything up. FC .5 CC .5 pH low... 6.8? Whatever the lowest color is on the test tube. It might even have been...

    Some questions (backwashing, vacuuming etc)

After the backwash, are your adding 100% of recommended DE or just 80%? 100%. Is that bad? When you are vacuuming leaves and heavy debris (especially with a DE filter) vacuum to waste and re-fill. This is assuming your fill water is cheap and clean. My DE filter will clog in less than 30...

    Some questions (backwashing, vacuuming etc)

I just moved into a house with an inground vinyl lined pool. We paid someone to open it (I know, but I literally know nothing about pools), only to find that the pump was no longer functional. So we bought a new pump, a Hayward 1HP super pump. It was finally opened yesterday, now I have a few...

Opening a pool late in July

Great, thanks so much for the advice! We found someone to open it and inspect it for us on Thursday (move-in day). I can't wait to start swimming in my pool! Donldson, no, we won't always have someone open/close it for us. Probably just this time and maybe when we close it in September. I know...

Opening a pool late in July

Thanks for the welcome! Unfortunately I have no idea what the water looks like :( . We have no access to the property until next Wednesday, but I figured I'd start looking for advice now so I can get the ball rolling ASAP. The pool is closed using water bags right now. What should I be looking...

Opening a pool late in July

My husband and I recently bought a house with an in ground vinyl lined pool. We move next week. The pool has yet to be opened this summer. Is it worth it to open it basically just for the month of August (we're in New England, we won't be able to use it much after mid-September), or to leave it...
