    IC60 not working with Easytouch

mknauss - what do you mean that the IC is "enabled"? My previous IC40 seemed to communicate fine with the Easytouch (and Screenlogic). I simply plugged the replacement IC60 into the same plug on the Easytouch box at my pool equipment pad.

    IC60 not working with Easytouch

I replaced my IC40 with an IC60. (5 year old IC40 wasn't producing chlorine any longer). It works fine when my Easytouch is in "service" mode & I manually adjust my pump & IC60. When I try my Easytouch automation, though, I get no chlorine. It lights up & I get a salt reading on my Pentair app...

Is pool heater condensation harmful to equipment?

If I turn on my pool heater when the water is very cold (like less than 40 deg), I see a LOT of white smoke or steam coming from the heater. I have only let it run for a few minutes, out of fear that I am damaging my equipment. I assume what I am seeing is steam from condensation, due to...

How to leave pool open where there are hard freezes.

Let me know if I'm crazy. There are a couple of reasons why I would like to leave my pool open through the winter. First, I have planned on using my auto cover as the winter cover. The pool has a raised wall on one end, and an elevated portion on the opposite end, so installing a typical winter...

What do I do when pool build finishes in winter?

I signed my contract at the end of April, with an expectation that my pool would be finished in "45 dry days". We still have a LONG way to go! It will definitely be cold when the pool is filled. We are having a Pebble Sheen (actually Stonescapes) finish applied. I have heard about the importance...

    Concerned about quality of shotcrete

Despite PB telling me that watering the shotcrete wasn't necessary, we did it 2-3 times/day. (He said that since it wasn't too hot - only mid 80's - watering didn't matter...) I'm going to see if another local builder will review the job as a consultant.

    Concerned about quality of shotcrete

I know that a lot of people post pictures of shotcrete. It's just so hard to tell what is appropriate since even well done jobs seem rough! I talked to my shotcrete guy before the shoot. He said that he didn't use rebound. I was not able to be home during most of the shoot - just the beginning &...

What lights can be installed on a raised wall above water?

Re: What lights can be installed on a raised wall above wate Our inspectors are not known for being generous or forgiving... I will probably just abandon the idea of lighting these features. The fiber optic waterfall lights don't give the natural effect I am thinking of, so I did not want to go...

What is different about glass tile installation?

We have picked out a killer 1" mosaic glass tile for our waterline. I have heard that there is something different about glass tile installation, and that if not done properly, it can be a disaster. My PB has not left me filled with confidence, so I am all over TFP to educate myself. I feel like...

Stonescapes minipebble Tahoe or Tropics blue?

I am baffled by the concerns of the safety of dark pool finishes. If your water is clear, you can see anything or anybody in the pool. If the people in your pool do not have dark blue skin, they will show up quite nicely against a dark blue background!

What lights can be installed on a raised wall above water?

I'm having no success finding lights that can be installed in a raised wall at the end of my pool. It is a 24" wall extending up from the deep end. There are 2 sheer descent waterfalls, and I thought it would look nice to have a light in the wall behind each waterfall. What I was planning on...

    Recommended depth of plumbing

We're under construction in St Louis. The guy who will be doing our concrete flatwork (walkway & patios around pool) said to make sure that the plumber buries his lines deep - so that they're under the gravel bed that the concrete is poured on. Is that so important? These are lines that should...

    Raised wall construction question

I appreciate the information. If my PB will only do the block wall, what should I look for or ask about to ensure that it is as reliable as possible? I'm in St. Louis. Plenty of freeze/thaw cycles. The area behind the raised wall may also have to handle a moderate amount of drainage, as it's...

    Shotcrete rebound question

In almost every picture I see of pool construction, whether it is shotcrete or gunite being shot, I see the walls shot first. The workers are standing on the rebar in the pool floor, and there is always some concrete running down the wall, under the rebar & onto the floor. It is still there when...

    Raised wall construction question

My pool is designed into a sloping yard. In the deep end, the water is below grade, with a stone veneer faced wall above water, sheer descent waterfall coming out below coping, and ground level deck at the level of the coping, 24 inches above water level. The sides step down, and in the shallow...

Watching PB closely - some of his statements are scary!

I've seen 2 other pools he built, and a co-worker used him as well. My co-workers job wasn't perfect, but he was satisfied nonetheless. I think one part is that he knows nothing about energy efficiency, and that has been one of my goals (in spite of living in the land of cheap electricity). He...

Watching PB closely - some of his statements are scary!

Since signing my contract, I have learned a LOT about pool construction. Thanks, TFP! What really scares me is what my PB says when I ask some questions. Here are some examples: Me- "I'm interested in a variable speed pump." PB- "Nobody uses those. They are too expensive & don't save very much...

plumbing touches rebar - is this a problem?

Thanks for the quick response, heavyweight. Do you think there should be a trench dug out below the main drains & associated plumbing in order to get then an inch or two deeper?

plumbing touches rebar - is this a problem?

My main drain plumbing was done today. The rebar is right on top of the PVC. Is this ok? Shouldn't the pipe be further under ground so that the rebar is fully encased in concrete?

New construction - can rebar penetrate into the ground??

My pool builder says that we're almost ready to shoot gunite. As you can see from the picture, every other vertical rebar penetrates the underlying gravel & soil. Everything I read says that any contact of rebar to soil increases chances of concrete failure. Should I insist that my builder cut...

Automatic cleaner and stone raised wall - PICS ADDED

adamwahl - Your pool design is almost EXACTLY what I'm trying to accomplish! I have a few questions, if you don't mind. What is the stone material on the raised wall? We there any particular issues with placing it at/below the water line? Did you figure out the robot question? If so, I'd love to...
