    Pool pump freezes

Thanks James for the suggestions. I followed your suggestion to check all breakers - they all perform well. I also check the wires to the pump and found out they were also supplying an outlet and a security light, which suggests that the wire may should have been carrying 120 v before. I also...

    Pool pump freezes

I retested the voltage for the terminals at my pump. The voltage between two positives (?, both red) and the ground are 125V. I guess I only tested the voltage between two reds before and that read around 5 volts. So I guess I am back to my original search - could the running capacitor be the...

    Pool pump freezes

Thank you! I checked for voltage- it only stays at around 5 volts. So I guess there is an issue with the power supply. I traced back to my timers, which are fed with power from a Len Gordon As Multi Combo controller. It might be something I need to look into. However there was no diagram for the...

    Pool pump freezes

The motor does not even hum. I also thought about bad connection and checked wires. When I turned on the switch, the running capacitor (on top of the motor) pass power to the motor. So whatever is going on wrong should be the components inside the motor. I did not see the starting capacitor...

    Pool pump freezes

Thank you Duraleigh for your reply. I tried to rotate the motor and it appears to be working OK. The current also passed through the running capacitor ok. Some of the water pipe including the tablet feeding controller is frozen. I thought there might be a starting capacitor inside the motor...

    Pool pump freezes

I am in Houston, Texas and have not yet had any winters below 30 degrees for a while. I did not keep the pump running when the temperature dropped to below 30 last night. This morning the pump decided to quit. It appears that the capacitor is working fine. Not sure what else I can try to ge t...

Pool resurface question - really need your inputs

No, I don't really know the age of the plaster but the house and the pool was built around 20 yrs ago and I assume that is also the life of the current plaster. Have several pieces missing and several areas popped up (one is next to main drain with around 5 ft * 3ft needs to knocked away since...

Pool resurface question - really need your inputs

Hi all, I really need some inputs on my pool project here. I drained the pool earlier in January with the hope to get the pool project done by February. But I never get the chance to finish it up due to my work schedule. I will have to leave the pool due to travel arrangements and return in...

    Places to get old-style copings

Thank you all for your suggestions ! I will bring some samples to local store to get it matched. Also the suggestions on diamond blade are excellent ! I have been using that to grind away mortar on the bed and it is a very useful tool. Dave :p

    Places to get old-style copings

I am working on retile the water-line tiles of my old pool and found a section of the old coping needs some reinforcement. However several of those copings were broken when I chiseled off the mortar. I am wondering what might be the best way to replace those broken copings as most places that I...

    Water leak and causes?

Great suggestions - I have stopped the pump yesterday and it looks like the water is not dropping without running the pump. Now the water is close to the low end of the skimmer outlet (probably around 2mm above the low end). What is water table? Sorry but I have no idea about it - I may need to...

    Water leak and causes?

I have to stop the pump as the water now is near the bottom of skimmer intake and the pump is running without water. It is a plaster based pool surface. Not sure what might be the best way to do some self-diagnostics before getting some professionals to help.

    Water leak and causes?

I guess the water leaks on daily basis is around 1/6-1/7 of the intake of the skimmer. and my pool is 25k gallon.

    Water leak and causes?

My pool is having water leaking issue since we purchased the house in Spring. It is getting worse as time goes by and I have tried to replace the gasket for multivalve to save water from draining down through the valve. It appears to have nothing to do with the leak. I am planning to drain the...

    Multivalve replacement or repair?

It's getting much cooler in TX recently and I am considering to close my pool, drain the water, and paint the pool since the old plaster is worn. Yet my water level keeps falling recently - I had an original pump station with a Pentair multivalve that lasted for 20 yrs. I replaced the gasket...

    Timer replacement

Thank you very much for confirming the replacement issue - that's exactly what I am worried about. Don't want to drive 15 miles to pick up the wrong part from local store. I guess Amazon's price is good but it is just the shipping kills the deal. A WG1573 runs at around 21 bucks after shipping...

    Timer replacement

Thanks! It's one of the motor for T12404R timer. My other motor that will need to be replaced is WG1573. I saw a rating of WG1573 on Grainger's website that goes here http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/se ... ReviewTabs. The buyer complained that 1573 is not a replacement for 433. So I am...

    Timer replacement

Dear forum members, I am having issues locating a new replacement for my timer motor # Intermatic WG-433-3. It looks that all my local stores do not carry this model any more. I am wondering what might be a good alternative timer for this model? Thanks!

    DE in the pool

Thanks for the suggestion. I just got the chance to reopen the pump with new DE this afternoon. The pressure is at around 20 psi now - I hope after 12 hrs' running it is not going to increase too much.

    DE in the pool

It's the type of vacuum with a combination of water hose and vacuum head attached to the one end and the other end goes to the skimmer. The previous owner left it in the garage and I saw some of the YouTube video shows to use it to manually vacuum the bottom of the pool.

    DE in the pool

Thank you Techguy for your help! It really helps me understand the difference between DE and dead algae. I think my pool for now has a combination of both since I shocked the pool recently and the top water is pure blue now. I have run the new filter without DE this morning and it appears to...

    DE in the pool

I have a 60 sq ft. DE based filter. I have just replaced the old grid with new one after running the pool for several days. It has already get out some of the DE in the pool through multiple backwash. I will need to try the pantyhose trick to verify DE is being added to the pool - but I can...

    DE in the pool

Thanks Techguy for the reply. I followed the SLAM by bringing up the chlorine level before adding AquaChem shocks into the pool. The water now turned from green to blue yet it is like milky blue with either DE or dead algae in the pool. I tried to manually vacuum it out but have not been very...

    DE in the pool

Hi all, I am running into a dilemma these couple days with DE. Initially my pump ran at high pressures and I backwashed several times and added around 50-75% DE after backwash. After several times, I start to notice DE in the pool. Tried to use Polaris to stir the water and hand pump but it...
