Draining and starting over, advice appreciated.

I appreciate all advice given. I had to unexpectedly leave town for a week because of a death in the family. Luckily the pool survived and didn't turn green again. It's blue but very, very cloudy. These are my numbers as of this morning: FC-1.5 CC-0 PH-7.4 Alkalinity-150 CYA I'm guessing is...

Draining and starting over, advice appreciated.

I have the Taylor test kit but I am out of the CYA test fluid ( I have some ordered) so I will have to use a strip until it comes. I will test when full and go from there. I did use the bleach method last year but at the end of season our pump went out so that is why I am in trouble now. We...

Draining and starting over, advice appreciated.

We drained our pool yesterday to about 12 inches. The water that was left was very, very green but we got most of the trash out. My husband put about 10#'s of granulated chlorine in and the water has cleared but it's real cloudy/white. My question is, do I test the water now (it's at about...

Draining and starting over, advice appreciated.

I have a 23,000 gallon above ground pool with a vinyl liner, 1.5 HP pump with sand filter. Our water is very green and our liner feels like sandpaper. We are in the process of draining now. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

My water this morning...not crystal clear but not green!! Now I need help again. I have to leave the pool unattended all day tomorrow and most of Sunday. The night after refilling our pool we got a lot of rain (running out of skimmer) and I've backwashed 3 times so I know I've lost some more...

Ok, somebody can knock me in the head now. I ran my numbers again and got the same result so I made my daughter read everything out to me....I had 285500 gallons of water!!!! That's a huge pool. Thanks for the help guys or I would have ruined my pool.

Before I head to the store, someone check my #'s

Did a drain last night to get my CYA down....it is ready to be shocked. Also have a green pool. These are my #'s FC-5 CC-0 PH:7.6 TA:90 CYA:35 To get to a shock level of 14, if I'm doing this right, the Pool Calculator is saying to add 3875 oz. of bleach which is about 32 gallons.....is this...

What next? My pool is still green....

Did the drain last night and it's almost ready to have the pump turned back on. Just tested and results are: FC: 5 CC: 0 PH: 7.6 TA: 90 CYA: 35 Do I need to adjust anything before I start the SLAM over or can I get started now and make necessary adjustments when I'm finished? So glad to be...

    draining the pool

Just finished draining ours 60% for the same problem. We used a sump pump and let it drain into a ditch by the side of our house. We are in the country though so we have no permits/regulations or anything to worry with. It took about 30 minutes to drain and we are refilling now!

What next? My pool is still green....

Thanks for helping me to understand all of this and figure out where I went wrong! One last ? and I think I'm ready.....since my PH is high right now because I've been keeping it at shock level should I try to get it down some before I start the process again or just worry about it when my...

What next? My pool is still green....

Waiting on my husband to get home with a pump and we will start the drain/refill. You say to start the SLAM process while filling. Just use 30 as my CYA and test the FC/CC with the water that is in the pool and plug those numbers in the calculator? I just want to make sure I am doing this...

What next? My pool is still green....

OK....I just retested the CYA and it is higher. I poured the sample in the vial several times and had my son check too and it is reading between 70-80 so I'll go with 75? It didn't hit me until I read the post earlier about how much shock I put in my pool last week that I was also adding...

What next? My pool is still green....

I don't know what type it was, didn't know any of that mattered at the time (oh the things I've learned). But I did test my CYA before I began the SLAM process. I am going now to get more bleach (8.25%) and when I get back I am going to retest because something, somewhere is off. Either I'm...

What next? My pool is still green....

Haven't tested chlorine yet but just did a PH test and it is high-8.2 or higher. I know from reading this happens during the shocking process but should I add some MA to bring it down some since I'm still not seeing any change in my water? Will this make any difference or just keep doing what...

What next? My pool is still green....

I thought that that too and have been checking the return flow an it's been normal. I did go out earlier and backwashed it. Some green/white junk came out for about 3 minutes and that's all. Reading on gauge did not alter any and flow stayed steady.

What next? My pool is still green....

Yes pump is constantly running. Not having to backwash much because my clean filter pressure is around nine and it's not even on 10 (backwashed on Friday afternoon). We replaced our sand right before the algae took over and our pressure gauge is new. I am using the 10ML sample but still...

What next? My pool is still green....

Thank you for the responses. I just talked to my husband and now he doesn't really want to drain because he was told in our heat that it isn't good on the liner?? And of course I reminded him that I already have a lot invested and would like to stay the course (I really want to prove to him...

    Question about Reagents

I have the Blue Devil test kit that uses the reagent drops and added the Taylor FAS-DPD free chlorine/combined chlorine kit to it. I have a very green pool at the moment and am quickly running out of the Taylor drops to test free chlorine. My question is until I get more will the Blue Devil...

What next? My pool is still green....

I actually did that this morning after reading on here that green/cloudy water can throw the CYA test off some and not seeing any improvement overnight. I did bring my PH down yesterday before starting, maybe something was off there too? Could that be my problem? One of my girls just got in...

What next? My pool is still green....

I think I may have to cave and give in to my husband. He says to drain because our pocketbook is being drained :( If we were seeing any change at all I could hold him off but we are seeing absolutely nothing and I have been keeping it at a shock level of 22 since early yesterday morning. I...
