Pentair Superflo Standard Efficiency vs. Energy Efficient and Install Question

Just an update. I received and installed the Pentair 3/4 HP 340037 pump Friday. Everything went fairly smooth except for a bit of a fitment issue, had to raise the gas line a little that goes to the heater. I knew it would be a little tight but got it done and it's working great. All my low flow...

Pentair Superflo Standard Efficiency vs. Energy Efficient and Install Question

Yeah I saw that and thanks for posting the info. I just got it from Amazon since I have free 2-day shipping with them so I'll get it by Friday for $8 more.

Pentair Superflo Standard Efficiency vs. Energy Efficient and Install Question

Thanks Jason, sarg, vwerz. I don't have any other water features or a spa so that's what I thought. I think I'll just get the 340037 and save even a few more bucks. Amazon has it for 278 with Prime shipping.

Pentair Superflo Standard Efficiency vs. Energy Efficient and Install Question

My current pump, a 1 HP Anthony AR205L, is probably 20-30 years old and not working very good. It's loud and the motor was replaced last year, which in retrospect was probably a mistake. It's just not pumping water like it did a couple of years ago. I've checked the impeller and it's not clogged...

Pentair Superflo Standard Efficiency vs. Energy Efficient and Install Question

I'm in New Mexico and we only have the pool open for a max of about 4 months per year. So it would take a little longer to recoup the cost but I hear you. I found the Jandy FloPro FHPM 1.0-2SPD for $348 which seems like a great price but I don't think it comes with a switch for the 2 speeds on...

Pentair Superflo Standard Efficiency vs. Energy Efficient and Install Question

I would go with a two speed but I'm trying to save some money now and I can't find a two speed for close to $300, which is what I can get the EE Superflo. I know in the long run it would make sense. My electricity rates are .12 per kwh, so I'm not sure how that compares. The pump on there now is...

Pentair Superflo Standard Efficiency vs. Energy Efficient and Install Question

I think I'm going to replace my 1 HP Anthony pump with one of the following 3/4 HP pumps in bold below. Is the difference pretty straightforward, just that one is more energy efficient? I see that the SFHP for the energy efficient 3/4 HP pump is 1.25 which is the same as the standard efficiency...

DE Filter Grids, Air bubbles in return, low suction from skimmer questions

The impeller was not clogged. I've now noticed there is DE in the pool from when I manually cleaned and added new DE. There does not seem to be enough pressure in the filter, it's right at 2.5. I guess a lot of the DE did not stick to the grids and went into the pool. Should I just replace the...

DE Filter Grids, Air bubbles in return, low suction from skimmer questions

Thinking ahead, if I have to replace the pump should I go with a 3/4 HP or stick with a 1 HP? I was thinking if it comes down to this I would go with the Pentair Superflo. I know it would be beneficial to go with a 2 speed pump but I really don't want to spend the extra money and we only have...

DE Filter Grids, Air bubbles in return, low suction from skimmer questions

OK I will check that. This is how the situation was before I replaced the pump motor and I remember reading the impeller could be clogged. It wasn't then but maybe it is now. We do have a bunch of pine trees around and pine needles are a pain so maybe they worked into the impeller like you...

DE Filter Grids, Air bubbles in return, low suction from skimmer questions

OK just replaced the gauge. I'm getting about 2.5-3 PSI after bleeding out the air. Stays the same with main and skimmer open or just one or the other. The skimmer also flows very well by itself but pretty low when main is open. I would think if the grids were plugged a little it would show...

DE Filter Grids, Air bubbles in return, low suction from skimmer questions

Yeah, and I just replaced it but get no pressure reading at all. It was like $5 so I figured it was just defective. I know there has to be some pressure in there. When I bleed off the air the water will start squirting out just like it did back when everything was working normally. I'll see if I...

Pump motor replacement for Anthony pump?

Yes it's on its way with the motor. Should be a quick job now that the existing motor will come right off. Thanks.

Pump motor replacement for Anthony pump?

Thanks for the help guys. I just went with the single speed. I know 2 speed would be better for energy savings but we only have the pool open about 4 months a year so the energy savings wouldn't be too much. The single speed direct replacement was only $145 and maybe it will extend the life of...

Pump motor replacement for Anthony pump?

I definitely have considered that and I know that would be a better solution thanks to you guys here. I was just trying to stay as inexpensive as possible right now. So I would still match the HPxSF to the current motor? If I can find one for a good price I still might go this route. With the...

Pump motor replacement for Anthony pump?

Thank you sir. I think I'll just go with the 48Y AO Smith USQ1102 which is 1hp and SF 1.25 which matches the current motor. The amps listed are higher at 15.3/7.6 but I guess I won't worry about that. Everything else matches. Thanks again.

Pump motor replacement for Anthony pump?

Thanks. Current pump is 230v. I was referring to AMPS above. Current motor is 12.6/6.3 AMPS. Should this be matched at all?

    Can't keep FC up

Yeah, I would think there was no CYA either. But I tested it a while back and came up with zero, so I measured and added granular CYA, per poolcalculator, to go to 20. You know go to 20 first and then I could go to 30. But even after adding the CYA and waiting 2 weeks to make sure it was all...

    Can't keep FC up

Just to let you guys know, I got whatever organics I had knocked out this weekend. Just kept adding bleach and it finally broke the stuff. Just had to add bleach about every 30 minutes for a while then every hour. CC is now zero and FC holds up. Water is perfectly clear. Now I will work on...

    Can't keep FC up

About 11am this morning I left the cover off to get some sun and added more bleach. Checked it at lunch and the CC is now 1.5 and FC is 1.5 too. Added more bleach. Maybe the CC is going down now. I will continue adding bleach and hopefully soon it will be able to hold FC overnight. I will be...

    Can't keep FC up

Sorry, I meant multiply by .5, or divide by 2. I'm just not sure how I get no CYA reading, add the amount of chlorine as if there was 20 CYA, and get all the FC consumed so fast. Water looks pretty much perfect now. Just did the FAS/DPD test again about an hour ago using one heaping scoop and...

    Can't keep FC up

Wow so I bought the kit from you, cool. Yeah, sorry about that. You got me on the scoop thing. Just wasn't sure I was getting enough in there and I think I read that waterbear here puts 2 scoops. Does this make a big difference in the test, the amount of powder? It seems a heaping scoop is not...

    Can't keep FC up

Yes I know I need to keep the FC at 12, which is actually one more than the poolcalculator says, just to be safe. And I know the goal is for it not to drop over night, which means the organics are gone. But for 3 or 4 days now I've been trying to keep the FC up to shock levels and after an hour...

    Can't keep FC up

My pool: In-ground gunite 7700 gallons Motorized cover, covered most of the day DE filter The situation: I have a TF100 kit. I tested 2 weeks ago and got a 0 reading for CYA. Previously used 3" pucks to chlorinate so I figured there had to be some CYA in there but maybe it just wasn't reading...
