I believe you'll need an adapter, as Intex uses non-standard threads. Search the web for "intex fitting standard".

Livinright, thanks for the clarification. I had assumed strainer meant the side-hanging basket, rather than what I was calling the "pump intake thingy". I'll give that intex kit a try.

DONE! We ended up finding a great deal on a 14' Ultra Frame, so we swapped for that. MUCH more stable to setup, and easier to aim for getting it centered on our leveled area. The tiller worked great at breaking up the ground. We built a 17' circle perimeter with 1' retaining wall blocks...

What's the reason for the plywood vs. contact with the ground? I've read that some people will create a circle from sheets of foam building insulation as a protective cushion. I was going to try that this year, but leveling the ground sucked up extra funds.

I'd think the plywood would rot? Smushed between the pool and the wet ground with splash out. I was 4" off level, and it took an incredible amount of work for me to dig down the 4". I put down 3" of 1/4" gravel, then 1" of river sand. We have a short pool season as well.

My Ultra didn't come with a strainer, so I'm not sure where I'd connect the hose at?

I snagged some chemicals at a local store, and they suggested a hand powered floor cleaner/skimmer for $46. It's terrible. I'm going to take it back, but fear they will only give me store credit. Is there a way to attach a simple hose and vacuum head to the intex system? I have young kids...

Ditto on your pavers. I've got 5" in my 14' ultra right now, waiting for enough water to push the feet out enough to position the pavers. I can dig down in the top sand 1-2", but under than us heavily compacted rock which will be a pain. I did get 6x9"s instead of 12x12"s, so I'm waiting till...

Where did you find the 14' ultra? I can't find anything local?
