Pentair 460775 400,000 BTU Natural Gas

I have had this heater for about 7 1/2 years. Recently would not fire up. Turns out our local neighborhood pack rats built a nest and helped themselves to the wiring for dinner. We live on a desert open space and pack rats are a way of life. Thought I had them contained but they found this...

    Algae in bird baths

I basically live in the desert. While it is hot and dry pretty much everywhere this summer it is hot here all the time and drier than usual. I live on a nature preserve and while I shouldn't put out water for the javelinas, coyotes, deer and bobcats I would like to help the birds. Our small (5...

    Pool water not perfect

Yes, two main drains in the deep end of the pool and one skimmer weir. I may be able to divert around the pop ups with some of the jandy valves. By normal returns you mean the nozzle type returns on the side of the pool to foster skimming by creating circulation? Yes, three of them.

    Pool water not perfect

Doesn't seem to skim that well at 1500. Maybe the popups steal some of the flow? I don't know. I think a run of 24/7 at 1500 rpm is a good idea, will try that

    Pool water not perfect

Been using TFP method for over 8 years. 9500 gallons, FC and PH and Alkalinity and CH all within range but due to our hot summers, splash out (two swimming dogs) and monsoon rains I keep the CYA at 60-65 in the summer and let it drift down over winter. A few months ago I got tired of the dog...

    Skimmer Weir broken Pentair/StaRite 8650-4

The other day my skimmer weir broke and floated into the pool . Looks like the tabs that attach it to the hinge have worn down, not surprising after 15 year s or so. Not easy to access the screws but don't want to pay someone to come out and fix it either. Way too much to install a $30 part. 1...

    Manual pool vacuum questions

Ordered very late Thursday, shipped Friday. FedEx promised for Sunday but that seemed aggressive. Sure enough, they pushed that to today, Monday. Got it, read directions and into the pool for the 2 hour cleaning. I didn't realize, though I should have, that it is almost totally random as far as...

    Manual pool vacuum questions

Thanks for the input. After the input and more research I went with the Pentair SI at Marina.($749). It is basically a Dolphin S300i ($999)with Bluetooth instead of WiFi. Choose it over the SE because of multiple cycles, enhanced warranty and the rough filter basket. Bluetooth was an...

    Manual pool vacuum questions

A few years ago I tried a manual vacuum attached to a hose and pole using the suction side of my skimmer. I have popups which do great for general circulation and simple debris, but I get a lot of sand blown in by desert winds and dragged in by the dog's paws. As careful as I was I could never...

Hayward EcoStar SP3400VSP Pump Stalled Error

Had to put my 2 cents in. These drives are garbage. 2 in four years. I thought I was buying the best and bought the worst. Going to try a Pentair. Can't possibly be as bad. Seriously, they can't make electronics that last more than two years? For up to $800 installed.....

    Hayward Filter Maintenance Questions

Thanks, this pointed me in the right direction. The gasket is $40 - 50 with shipping so I think I will try and preserve it. But the lube ain't cheap either. But everything is relative. Filters are showing little to no wear after 2 /12 years except for a few bands just starting to come off...

ROFL: Rio Olympic pool technicians don't frequent TFP

New Bloom of Algae, What am I doing wrong?

In my opinion you are cutting your FC levels too close. If your CYA measurement is off, maybe it is 40, hardest measurement to do, you could be under FC levels needed. And why measure FC twice a day? Bring it up to max and let it drift down to mid point or minimum over a couple of days. While...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Usually 30 minutes of pump time is enough to mix the liquid CL. When I am pouring in larger amounts over a few ounces I pour it in about 5-6 spots in the pool to aid in the dispersion. I have never had algae (knock on wood) even before I discovered TFP 2 years ago (luck, 6 years of pucks my CYA...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Not sure how CYA went from 40-50 but it is a hard test to get right. Maybe the algae is affecting the test or the ability to read it accurately. Personally, I would raise FC higher than 20 in order to make sure I have FC enough in there. As long as one stays below Mustard shock levels I would...

    Light cloudy blue water

Well, not sure how you get 15.54 FC (two decimal points?) Computer test maybe? 87 CYA (most of us have trouble with testing to within 5 PPM as it is so subjective a test) Phosphates do not matter, FC relative to CYA matters to keep algae in check. But even if the FC is accurate, based on...

    Vacation, Trichlor tabs and PH

Good thing I retested today and while FC was 8, PH 7.5, TA 70, CH 560 (just the way it is here with fill water high CH and lots of evaporation, controlling CSI) CYA had been at 45 upon my return Monday but we had a lot of rain (early Monsoon season) and so had to do some draining. Instead of...

    Vacation, Trichlor tabs and PH

Returned from vacation a few hours ago. Must have had a pretty good rainstorm as pool was almost up to skimmer top. Drained a couple of inches and tested. I had dumped in bleach to bring FC up to around 20, PH was about 7.8. TA 90 or so. Put four pucks in a floater and opened to four hole...
