    Pools Opens Black Every Year

For those who care to know, I've gotten my pool clear. Still working on increasing pH but looks great. My high copper was attributed to algaecide and shock that both had high copper. I know nobody here seems to have much confidence in local stores but it was a combination of my local store...

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

There must be some default info or something because I didn't add that. But, part of it is right and dated. It's a Hayward but DE not sand and at the time it was probably 8 yrs. Now pool is close to 14-15.

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

I'm beginning to feel like all my responses are the wrong responses here. Taking a beating more than anything. Lol I realize I'm not the pool expert here so just trying to figure out this problem. I had it perfectly clear last year. I hope there is a work around solution to draining. That is...

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

What sigline listed pool? The pool in my pic is my pool so not exactly sure what you are referring to. The pool shown in the picture is an in ground, line pool in Grecian shape.

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

Thanks all. I DO also test myself and the store test was done after all this conversation to see if I could get some help. I don't know why they offer testing if they are inaccurate....what good are they. I didn't think of it as randomly throwing stuff in though, I thought of it as I was...

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

Well, still no luck on my pool. Despite all the chlorine, it registered practically zero when I had sample run. They had me add some stuff increase copper levels. Attached is the report. Ideas?

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

Appreciate the clarification so now I'm more baffled. Mine was easily in that range. As the other person pointed out, the mesh not blocking UV I've been told is a contributor.

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

I'm hearing terms now, I've never heard since having pool installed in 2005. :). So, what is SLAM? Shock was making considerable improvement for a few days/weeks.

    I would concur with that.

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

Thanks. I've never heard of polyquat. What is that? Another name for it? The opening and closing and cool temperatures really sounds great but it's not uncommon here in Maryland to run 60s well in to November and hit 60 in March. Interesting that not a soul around me has this issue and most...

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

I appreciate that advice. I'm actually one of the late closers and early openers around the neighborhood because I've received that advice before when I first got this. I opened last week of April this year.

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

This has been killing me every year since beginning use of one of them safety mesh covers. It doesn't matter how much chemicals I close with, when I open my pool is black, algae black. Takes usually three weeks to fully recover but clarity comes within a few days of first good shock. I don't...

    Cleaning the Baking Powder

Just thought I'd provide an update here. Just for clarification, I'm sure this was baking soda as someone above noted that yes, that would help balance the water. The good news is the green algae that was building up has been gone for a week. Bad news is this stuff is STILL not dissolved...

    Cleaning the Baking Powder

Well it must be baking soda then. But if only one of the two is the right one I guess I figured that would have been obvious. Sounds like there's no instance in which baking powder is used. So I'm sure it would be the baking soda. That would be good to know if that's correct. At least for my...

    Cleaning the Baking Powder

Thanks for the great run down. I think the place I go to is generally good but it does sound like they need work in this area. I've tried multiple chlorines and have in past two years found I like this Clorox brand of powder. They make the pucks too but usually drop a couple pounds a week or...

    Cleaning the Baking Powder

Well, I've been told this a couple years from a pool store. I mean they run my water test and do the usual print of the results. By raising the TA, according to them will stabilize things. In any case the bigger question is about getting rid of the residue. I use chlorine and water is nice...

    Cleaning the Baking Powder

Hello, My pool is generally pretty easy to keep rolling but whenever it starts getting the green on the sides every few days, the likely antidote is the baking powder. I had it tested and they wanted me to add like 39Lbs, split in thirds to be placed in every four hrs. I despise using this...

    Pool Green from Ketrol

Ok, so I got home and boy what a difference last night and today made. So, I've attached the picture for your reference but after a backwash and about 24 hours, it seems to be moving along to coming clear. So, I guess it's working. Eric

    Pool Green from Ketrol

Sorry, my pH was off too or something. I don't have all my readings at the moment but can post from home. Since the water wasn't maintaining chlorine and they said I had the high copper, they told me to put in the Ketrol first. Apparently it collects the copper and then it falls to the...

    Pool Green from Ketrol

Hello, New to the forum but old to the pool. I've had mine now about 7 years and seen most everything but after opening this year, while the pool was nice and crystal clear, I was seeing slight algae on the sides of the pool (in ground/liner). So, this past weekend, i went to my local pool...
