    another ladder ?

old steps/ladder broke, realized it is cheaper to buy a new one than pay craigslist prices. however, as I shop I keep seeing "pool step mats". These seem like a good idea to save the liner, but also seem like a great place for algae to hide. what do you all think?

    ladder/steps

thank you. I will try the bleach in a spray bottle. I was overthinking it and imagining trying to pressure wash with the feeder tube in a bleach bottle. hand spray bottle makes much more sense.

    ladder/steps

Trying to get the pool opened, fighting leaves, have water from swamp to cloudy blue now so making progress, YAY! However... I'm looking at the plastic steps/ladder and I don't want to put it back in my water. They are old and thus the plastic is not smooth anymore, I can literally see the...

start pool with chlorine tabs, switch to salt later?

Ok, got the pool up in the nick of time and should be finished filling tonight for my son's party tomorrow. :whoot: Question: I have a salt water generator from my old pool, but it is going to take some finagaling to plumb it in to the new one. If I hook up the system that came with it...

depth of sand under frame pool

we are going to be installing a 26 foot frame pool (intex/proseries type). My husband insists that we are supposed to have 6-8 inches of sand under it! I'm reading and everything I see says 2-3 inches. the site was excavated for a 30' metal wall pool so there is a 32' diameter hole in the...

    how to identify used pool?

hi all, I haven't been active on the forums for a few years. We've been using our intex for several years now and last season bought a much (MUCH) larger AGP used. Funny story, was looking at two ads on Craigslist, one for a 24', the other for a 30'. Decided that 30' was bigger than we really...

Don't want a repeat of last year!!! HELP PLEASE

I see above someone mentioning the concern of upgraded equipment not fitting the smaller intex pools. when we upgraded, my DH simply cut the holes in the pool larger and did it that way. hth

    hello for 2010

Hi again folks, I drop in during pool season each year (this will be my third season) and since it is getting warm here, here I am! This year we "upgraded" from our 12' easy set to a gigantic 15'x42" metal frame. :whoot: Hey, don't laugh! we got a great deal on craig's list and hubby is so...

    Seriously?

 So a couple days ago I stopped by the local rec warehouse to pick up some sodium test strips, they had them, I bought them, no problem. I got home and opened the pack and as soon as I turned the bottle over to read the directions, what do I see? a big old 8/08. I noticed and...

    another shock question

ok I'm almost embarassed to write this... If I use the dichlor to add the CYA, I will have to do it slowly, tiny bits over several days, or it will overload on the chlorine. - correct? I can however buy something called stabilizer that is just CYA, add enough of it all at once...

    another shock question

thanks! dh got the new pump hooked up last night and I wanted to go ahead and do the shock so I'd have my cya in place, but something just didn't seem right about putting the whole pack in at once!

    another shock question

    1. the only reason I'm adding shock (dichlor) is to get CYA 2. this is a new fill (had to empty to replumb for new pump/filter/swg) so current levels are 0 3. I'm confused about the shock. according to the pool calc I am working with 1400 gallons, (I know, very tiny) so the calculator says...

    quick shock? another question...

OH geez louise, I just read teh back of the pack. I'm afraid to touch the stuff. It's a 1 lbs bag of what sounds like granular product. I'm starting from scratch (filling right now) . I need this stuff just to add the CYA and will use bleach to maintain the chlorine levels until my swg...

    quick shock? another question...

Re: quick shock? oops, lemme clarify. We have an itty bitty tiny pool, so I don't need a huge amount of cya. ONe of the threads about care for tiny pools said that a cheaper way of getting the small amount of CYA needed is to start it with dichlor and then switch over to bleach to maintain...

    quick shock? another question...

I sent hubby to the pool store for cya which I thought from reading was part of the ingredients of dichlor and they sold him "quick shock" with ingredients of sodium dichloro-s-triasinetrione, dihydrate. is this the right stuff?

Simplifying BBB for very small pools (e.g. Intex)

Last year was my first year with anything bigger than a wading pool. I had/have a 15'x30" intex with a puny little 530gph filter pump. I was able to maintain it for about 10 weeks (got a late start setting it up and hubby took it down once the baby was born) by just doing bleach. I got a pack...

about to order the test kit

i'm about to order the complete test kit as recommended in pool school, but since I have a swg on the way, i guess i need to order the salt test strips as well. there are only 10 in the pack, is one pack enough? how often will i be testing the salt level? eta: this is what is says in the...

to spend or not to spend?

awesome, ordering now! I hadn't thought about the disadvantages of having the combo swg/filterpump, so thanks again for pointing that out to me!

to spend or not to spend?

thanks Jason. I just found a few old threads about the intex SWG and it seems like even with mixed reviews it would be worth getting and be a peice of equipment that would "graduate" up to larger pools. So quick last question... for the 15'x30" pool, what size filter pump? I think the awful...

to spend or not to spend?

Hi, I'm back from last year and about ready to set the pool up. We have a little intex soft-side, and last year all I did was keep it up with bleach (1000 thanks to this site!). This year I was considering going a little bit bigger, but (and this will be more funny to mommys out there who have...

    buying a used pool

well I didn't go measure the pool, but I looked at it, and at my back yard, and at her pool, and at how much of my backyard is already taken up by the large wooden playground... and I'm just not sure it will work. I think we have to go measure it though. and of course ask her if she's even...

    aerating water = pH?

I'm confused.... does aerating raise or lower the pH? I was sure I had read that it lowered it, and now that I'm doing searches, it looks like it raises it. thanks,

    buying a used pool

Or a "real" AGpool, with metal sidewalls and top rail? this. i wonder if she'd just let us repair it and keep it in her yard... no worries about exra fencing etc.. I'm sure that would not go over well with the homeowners insurance though!

    buying a used pool

jsut mulling things over in my mind... thanks to this site, my husband is very impressed with my ability to keep our glorified wading pool clean and usable all summer and has mentioned several times that we can upgrade to a larger pool next year (also, he wants this one to try some...
