Shrek's Spa - the Muck is winning

The water is still murky but it has a lue cast and is a little milky - like water from a glacier. Good to see no green. I use my trusty old Taylor K2006. Here were my numbers: FC 0.5 CC 0.5 pH 7.0-7.1 (couldn't tell what the color was closer to) Alk 80 CYA 1 ppm I had to break down and clean...

Shrek's Spa - the Muck is winning

Kim & Catanzaro, thank you for your posts! I do have a high end Taylor Kit (my old friend lol) and I have fresh reagents from TFP - so I am good on that front. I've broken down the filter and cleaned it a number of times and we've mucked out as much as we could see with our net bags. Part of...

Shrek's Spa - the Muck is winning

So, for two days I've been renting a Hayward Shark XL for my pool (Shrek's Spa) for $125 and things are worse than before. The pool is murky grey, there's sediment EVERYWHERE, the cleaner belches muck out EVERY time I take it out to clean the filter units, and I am beyond heartbroken. I have...

    Liner Popping Out

Do you know of any videos that demonstrate the technique you used with the dimes? I have a number of place where I will need to pop the liner back once everything else is in order. Thanks!

Perflex EC65 DE Filter, NO Multi-port valve, Need to vac to backwash

Thx, I didn't know they made one for my old dinosaur. Will this 1) allow me to vac to waste and/or 2) bypass filter to just circulate water?

Bump Shaft Frozen Hayward Perflex EC65 DE Filter

Bump Shaft Frozen Hayward Perflex EC65 DE Filter

Thx - I will try that in the morning. Is there any sort of lubricant I should consider applying to the bar?

Perflex EC65 DE Filter, NO Multi-port valve, Need to vac to backwash

Jazon - I have a dedicated vac line in the wall, I have never vacuumed thru the skimmers - I should have mentioned that. Over the years we have vac'd to waste but this year after my hiatus from the pool is the first time I am seeing that doing so with my equipment set up is damaging. :-( So, I...

Bump Shaft Frozen Hayward Perflex EC65 DE Filter

Thanks much! When you say releasing it a few times, what do you mean? I actually had the pump running over night prior to realizing the bump lever was stuck. Do you mean releasing the pressure (top valve, pump etc)?

Perflex EC65 DE Filter, NO Multi-port valve, Need to vac to backwash

So.. a tangent to my earlier (still open) post about the filter bump shaft... I know I will have to vac thru backwash this weekend. Too much filth in bottom of pool. But everywhere in here I read that doing so can hurt the fingers of my DE filter (it is NOT a grid style) and I do NOT have a...

Bump Shaft Frozen Hayward Perflex EC65 DE Filter

Helloooo!! I've been out of the loop a long time and happy to be back. My Hayward Perflex EC65 bump shaft appears to be frozen in the up position. I'm afraid to keep trying to bump it... I have opened the pool for the first time since closing it in Fall 2011 (long story of family illness - all...

    Looking for a SWG

I have an older 18x36 inground vinyl pool (1981) with a single speed Hayward 1HP superpump and a Hayward Perflex EC65 DE filter. No remotes, nothing fancy. I do need to reinstall a new timer for the pump - basic 2 manual-settingsper 24 hrs deal. In my case does brand matter for selecting a SWG...

    Question on replacing Hayward light

Hmm - I don't think that would work - the old fixture is big and goes way back into the niche - the lens and rim are a part of the fixture assembly - not a part of the wall niche - the fixture is set into the niche with just 2 screws, one on top and one on bottom of face plate. The unit allows...

Shellsingleton - What kinds / brands of LED replacement bulbs or fixtures exist for std lights?

    Question on replacing Hayward light

I would love to - but not sure how or if it's even possible. I suspect that the LED fixtures are far more shallow than the old light and if there's a void between where the new fixture ends and the old niche is/electrical connection, could that be dangerous? If anyone has any ideas as well as...

    Question on replacing Hayward light

I am interested in replacing our old Hayward Starlite 500 watt/120 volt light with a new LED fixture but Hayward tells me there are no LED fixtures that retrofit with my existing niche. Has anyone else been able to replace their older lights without it having to be part of an entire pool...

    How to paint aluminum coping

4 years ago we replaced the liner on our 1981 Spartan inground. The aluminum coping was in need ot refinishing as well. Since the original liner was being pulled, we knew we didn't have to worry about cover it up. We got aluminum pool spray paint that has a sandy finish to it - it was purchased...

    Anyone dump their Robot?

Has anyone ever heard of a 'try before you buy' deal on these robots? Or perhaps outfits that rent them out for periods of time? It seems so split on how they work - I'd really hate to buy one and then be disappointed - especially in this economy. I don't mind manually vacuuming for maintenance...
