New Liner & Water Yesterday : How to Close?

Had to have a new liner installed yesterday. (Why, why, why couldn't we have had the catastrophic failure of the liner in May...lol?) The pool was filled with approx 7,000 gallons of water delivered by truck & we are adding approx 16,000 gallons from our hose. The water temp is in the 50s. We...

Motorized Valve Stuck on Solar Heater

Yes the unit does have that three way switch and I did flip in the on1 and on2 positions. Nothing. Thanks for your reply though. If I can get some pictures posted I will.

Motorized Valve Stuck on Solar Heater

My in-ground pool is set up with a Compool LX220 Solar Heating system. The motorized valve became stuck in the on position and I cannot get it to turn off. The controller seems to be working properly will all the LED light working and I can here it wanting to turn on and off if I adjust the...

    Losing 10-12 ppm FC daily?

I have been a long time member here, and once we started using borates to control our constant yellow mustard algae problem, taking care of the pool has been a breeze. However, this month we have run into a problem that we have never seen before. Since the middle of this month, we have been...

Pump Bearings Toast, Now Have Sand in Pool Also

Hi All: We opened the pool this year to find out that our pump was excruciatingly loud. We figured the bearings & seals were going; the couple of contractors we spoke with agreed. So, because our pump is ancient, we are going to get a new pump (thinking a Hayward Super II.) Unfortunately...

How can I have algae w/these test results?

Chem Geek/Richard wrote: You're so nice...I'm really sorry for my little melt-down earlier! Yep, our liner is blue and yes, we super shock to yellow/mustard levels EVERY time we have this. We even use the infamous "Chemgeek's Best Guess Chart" to do it. In fact, when we use your...

How can I have algae w/these test results?

Hi Chem Geek: We get our test kits from TF Test Kits. (Isn't that Duraleigh's business?) You were correct with your assumption that we lose an average of 1 ppm of FC per day when the pool is covered. (Sometimes less, depending on conditions.) I just got done brushing & found that even...

How can I have algae w/these test results?

The pump runs 12-15 hours a day EVERY day. So it's possible to get algae, with those test results, if the cover isn't removed enough? How often should the cover be removed? Does it have to come off all of the way? Or is 1/2 way enough?

How can I have algae w/these test results?

Hi: We opened our pool with a pretty low CYA level this year and by the end of June our CYA had dropped to 20. Since we were leaving for a week, we turned on our auto-chlorinator. We've continued to use it since July and just turned it off last week because it's nearing a level of 50...

FC held overnt, still see algae

Hi Again: Actually, we took the FC to shock level a couple of days ago. We just realized that we were dealing with mustard algae yesterday, so we bumped our FC from "normal" shock level to the higher MA level last night. We know it's mustard algae because it starts growing up our walls...

FC held overnt, still see algae

We fight mustard algae each year. We began to see signs of it recently, so last night we shocked to MA levels & brushed the pool. We didn't turn off the filter overnight. FC held overnight, however there were four small areas throughout the pool where I could see green-yellow algae on the...

I thought my FC & CC readings would predict algae bloom?

Thanks so much for mentioning Chem Geek's Chart. We weren't using his Mustard Algae values as our minimum, but I think we'll start keeping our FC there from now on. Just when we think we know what we're doing...WHAM! Another lesson learned!

I thought my FC & CC readings would predict algae bloom?

Thanks for your reply. The reason I'm confused is that our FC has never even dropped below 3 this summer, and with a CYA of approx. 30, our minimum FC should be 2.2. We've NEVER gotten close to that...or even seen a sudden/unusual change in FC. It's been stable all summer. That's what's...

I thought my FC & CC readings would predict algae bloom?

Hi All: For the past 5-7 days we have seen small amounts of green/yellow powder on the steps of our pool. The powder didn't feel slimy and easily dissolved into the water when we touched it. The rest of the pool looked fine. We watched our FC & CC closely, but they remained stable...

Frustrated and Needing Help (or maybe encouragement)

It's me again...you all can pretty much ignore my previous post. We didn't get the Phos-X. By last night the water was green and the "silt" was climbing up the walls of the pool, especially in the shaded areas. So we're doing the shock routine. This is a different scenario than we had last...

Frustrated and Needing Help (or maybe encouragement)

I have to chime in here. We are having this exact experience right now. This also happened to us last year. You can see my post, including pictures, here: can-you-get-algae-if-fc-is-within-target-t2873.html We have a Sta-rite sand filter, Vinyl IG, 25K gallons, solar panels and solar...

    Polaris Hose Replacement Options

We have a Polaris that's almost that old as well. Last summer we spent a lot of time researching replacement hoses, realized that we would have to "bite the bullet" and pay the $100 for the hose kit. Oh well, still a lot less than getting a new sweep. Last summer we found that...

    How many hours?

We run ours at least 15 hours per day. If our cc reading gets close to .5, we run it it for about two days straight and that lowers the value. Just got our electric bill a couple of days ago....$410. OMG!!!!! We are going to start running the filter less, even though it makes me nervous...

Need reputable co. to buy Pool Light

Hi: I posted this question in a different forum but didn't receive any replies, so I'm giving it a try here. We need to buy a new Sta-Rite Pool Light for our IG pool. We just don't have any clue as to which companies are reputable. Any ideas of who we should order from? Thanks!

Help - Need a Good Source For Replacement Light

I think I need to replace one of my Sta-Rite Sunlite pool lights. The burnt out light shows signs of moisture in the housing and the back rubber grommet where the cord exits is all cracked and starting to fall apart. Can someone please recommend some good sources? Thanks in advance.

Can you get algae if FC is within target?

Hi all, OneMom’s husband here. I’ve read all the replies to my wife’s post. Thanks for all the input. Good thoughts about the cover deteriorating and pool toys/noodles in the pool. We have no toys in the pool and it’s not the cover. Our pool backs up to woods and is surrounded by TONS...

Can you get algae if FC is within target?

The people at the pool store said they have seen a lot of this in the last couple of weeks. They think that it's due to the fact that our area got 8+ inches of rain in five days. The pool store isn't sure if it is algae either. Yesterday my husband & I brushed down the pool. The ENTIRE...

Can you get algae if FC is within target?

Well, we took a water sample to the pool store & had it tested as was recommended here. All of our levels looked great, except for the phosphates. They told us the phosphate level should be less than 125. Our level is over 300. They had us purchase a bottle of "Phos-X". The bottle listed at...

Okay, I'll take a sample to the pool store to be tested for everything you all suggested. Thank you ALL for all of your replies. But, admit it, you all think I'm crazy....don't you?!? :) It's funny, because my husband is starting to think I'm loony also. I convince him this summer to...

Can you get algae if FC is within target?

Chemgeek: Your post slipped in while I was typing the previous post. Sorry...I wasn't ignoring you. Just to clarify, as of yesterday, the large, white steps that are built into the pool are coated with the green stuff. The steps now feel slimy. The good thing about the all white fiberglass...
