    Outdoor speaker ideas

You need to get one of these, discussed in this thread: genius-device-for-creating-outdoor-remote-control-t36141.html I have one hooked to my rec. behind SS doors in my outdoor kitchen, and I can control the rec. from over 75 ft away, no line of site required. They work GREAT!!! FYI. C-Ya!!

    New Island Build

I had great luck finding tile at HD and Lowes. I purchased all my field tiles, and bullnosed trim pieces at Lowes for quite a fair price p/sq. ft., IMHO. We even purchased all the contrast stone there also. The tilesetter I hired to do our kitchen did bullnose quite a few "full" tiles for the...

Outdoor Speakers, Speaker Wire & Distance

When I wired my sound system from my outdoor kitchen, I used 12ga low voltage light wire from Lowes, from a tip I read on here. It is direct burial, so no need for conduit. One lead is also marked with printing, so keeping "+" and "-" seperate is easy. Much cheaper (price wise) than a dedicated...

pH drift up, how low with TA

Ted, it is sold in Cal. You might have to call around to find it, though. Here in the Central Valley, almost all the poolstores carry it, even Leslies. I buy 12.5% at a local mom and pop store for $15.25 OTD for 4 gals. Keep searching, you'll find some. C-Ya!! Mike

    Another!!! CYA Question

Tested CYA with a Taylor 2005 kit. TF DPD kit for cl. As of 7:30 am today: FC=6.0( Have always use this value as target) CC=0 ph=7.6 TA=80 CH=360 CYA= about 20 Never really have had any issues with any of those values. PH rises slightly over a week period, have to add about 12 oz of MA a week...

    Another!!! CYA Question

I tried to use the search function, and it didn't go too well , so here goes. Started the season with a CYA level of about 35, and really had not paid too much attention to it in the last month or so. Kids have been swimming daily for weeks(so a fair amount of splash out), and we are on our...

    Quest for a clear pool

As a "convert" of BBB for the last 120 days, let me give you some history, and some results of the conversion. Pool built in 03', used trichor since day uno, tested with an inferior kit, got mustard algae regularly during the "hot" months. Found this site, made the change. Drained pool to...

Is 10ppm FC safe to swim in?

Try a pool store near you. Our local Leslies carries it, but it is big $$. I found a mom and pop pool store that has it, $13.99 for 4 gals.!!!! :goodjob: C-Ya!!

Test kit for more than 5ppm Chlorine??

You're not alone.... I did(well actually the DW did) order the K2005, and thought it was THE ONE!!! Ordered the FAS/DPD kit from TF, all is well. She REALLY doesn't need to know. Its' easier  C-Ya!!

    Island in Colorado

Agreed, start a new thread.... BUT...... I used 25 ga. for my build, and had (9) 11 year olds dancing on my bar to what they called "music" last Fri. at my daughters B-Day party.... They had FUN!!! They didn't fall off  That's why I built it. To enjoy it!!! It didn't break. 25...

Did overnight test...no FC loss overnight but...

Thanks, Dave. I am going to think about raising the CYA level a bit before I do it. High CYA is what got me into this mess in the first place!!! Been using BBB for a month now( using 12.5% CL), and the pool is absolutely beautiful!!! Test it once a day, add sanitizer, and done!!! Holds pretty...

Did overnight test...no FC loss overnight but...

Dave, I am in the same situation as you. My pool rec. FULL, HOT sun for about 85% of the day. I currently lose 2 to 2.5 ppm of chlorine a day. My current CYA level is 40. Is it worth it to try a CYA level of 50? How much was your "significant reduction" in chlorine loss??? Pls. advise...

    DPD Powder ?

Well, due to an unforseen error (spilled most of it!!! ), I'm running really low on the DPD powder. I know I can order refills from TF, but there is a $15 min., and even ordering the two pack (at $13.50+shipping) doesn't meet the required order minimum. I REALLY don't need any other...

New to Forum & Intro to My Build

I had the same concern when I was researching my build. Pro's and con's of both: Screws: Pros: Easy to use, no pilot hole needed, can un-fasten easier than rivets, faster assembly. Cons: If not careful when driving, can strip out. Not as strong as a riveted joint. Heads of screws don't "flush...

Newbie to BBB Method, seeking advice

Thanks for the reply , Jason. If my response wasn't clear, I will be addressing CH FIRST, then TA. I added liquid stabilizer today to raise CYA to 40. I want to creep up on it; the high CYA got me into this mess to begin with!! I added 75% of the recommended amount, according to the PC...

Newbie to BBB Method, seeking advice

Well, the shocking went well, and after the second night, I didn't lose any FC. It has been really hot here (90 F +), and when I tested the pool last night, here are the values: FC= 7.5 TC= 7.5 PH= 7.4 TA= 140 CH= 160 CYA= slightly less than 30 Question: Should I try to raise the CYA level...

Well, finished the draining yesterday. Also cleaned the filter, re-filled, and ran the pump for 3 hours. Here are the test results this a.m. : FC= .5 TC= .5 PH= 7.6 TA= 120 CH= 160 CYA= 30 :-D I looked at my watermeter before I started the refill, and guessed that I drained the pool about...

Well, went home tonight to re-test water, and test fill water. Here are the findings: Pool: FC= 1.5 TC= 1.5 PH= 8.0 TA= 140 CH= 470 CYA= (1/2 diluted with tap water), 200 straight up On my first post, the CH # was obviously wrong. I re-tested twice, and came up with the same value both times...

Newbie to BBB Method, seeking advice

Well, it looks like I will be ordering the seperate FAS-DPD test from TF, because the DW purchased this one FOR SURE: http://www.lesliespool.com/browse/Home/Water-Testing/Test-Kits/DPD-Complete-Chlorine-Kit/D/30100/P/1:100:4000:400000/I/81330 It can only read FC levels to 5ppm, and I now see...

It uses a color comparator with red blocks. Is this kit a good one??? After all the reading I've done, I should have just ordered the TF-100!!! :( Wife might get a bit upset if I do, though. She thought she was doing me a favor!! Thanks for all the info on CYA/draining. I am going to dilute...

Newbie to BBB Method, seeking advice

Yes, I ran the numbers on the pool calculator. I'm going to check my pool volume numbers tonight. If I use the stated 18,500 gal. number( which I think is pretty accurate) it tells me to drain 56% to get to a 70 CYA #. I'll probably do less, and see what happens. If anyone else has...

Newbie to BBB Method, seeking advice

The test kit my wife purchased at Leslies. I'm pretty sure it is a FAS-DPD kit. It was the one that is comparable to the TF-100. I assumed the water needed to be shocked because of the presence of the mustard algae. The water is crystal clear, always has been. I agree that until I get my CYA...

I found this site late last year while building my outdoor kitchen, and have made most of my posts in that section.
