Testing CYA level & the "little black dot"

Am I the only person that struggles when testing my CYA? I'm using a TF-100 kit. It says to keep filling the C.A. View Tube until you can no longer see the black dot in the bottom of the tube. Sounds easy peasy until I actually try to do it. It says to hold it at waist level, but is that just to...

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

I just went out & checked it again, & the PSI has gone up exactly one. Yay!!! Now, am I understanding right, that I need to replace the DE each time I backwash? How much of an PSI increase do you allow in your filter before you backwash?

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

My CYA is looking good! Have questions about adding the D.E. I followed the directions found at the TFP. 1/4 cup incremints, looking for an increase of 1 PSI. I have added a total of 2 cups of D.E. & have yet to see a PSI increase. I have been waiting & watching. I didn't want to add more...

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

Thanks! Per your suggestion, I read up on adding DE to the sand filter. Based on everything I read, I think I am definitely going to give it a try! Waiting until tomorrow morning so I can monitor it carefully.

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

Thanks for sticking with me guys! Sorry if my questions are wordy... :) Water is continuing to improve gradually. Now seeing a FC drop of about 1.5 over the course of 3-4 hours. I finally got a supply of CYA (stabilizer), so I am ready to address this issue now. Question #1 Tested the CYA...

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

My reagents are less than a year old, and I think I've taken good care of them. So, they should be good. Okay, I did as you recommended. Here is a rundown of what the day looked like. 8:30 am - Brought it back to shock level (10 based on PoolMath tool), & brushed the pool. 9:30 - FC = 9...

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

Okay, when I tested my water this morning, the FC had finally dropped some. It dropped from 10 to 7. Hoping that means my regents are not bad...

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

I bought them towards the end of last season. Would they go bad that quickly?

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

I had alot of algae (and tadpoles), when I opened the pool. So, it is not clear yet, but the green has faded significantly. After I tested it this last time, and saw the green had faded quite a bit, I brushed the pool well. I am still testing every 30 min, and am due to test again in about 10 min.

FC not dropping like normal during "Slam"

I am opening my pool and began the big "Slam" session today. My CYA was 30 & PH was 7.3, so I added the amount of bleach required to reach shock level. Then I tested the FC level after 30 minutes and it had not changed. So, I waited another 30 minutes, and again, the FC level had not dropped...

Shocked by water test results & not sure what to do now

I know! I did not expect those results. Before we left: CYA was right at 70 FC - 4 pH - 7.3 I did find out that we got a pretty monstrous rain while we were gone. Several inches. Could that have played a part?

Shocked by water test results & not sure what to do now

Hey guys! I sought advice here on how to open and balance my pool at the beginning of the summer. I followed your excellent advice and got my pool in fabulous shape! Since then, it has done wonderfully with regular minimal maintenance. That is until now. We just returned from a 5 day trip...

Where do I go from here?

Ok, I added bleach & got my chlorine up to 6. I also added boric acid & ph is 7.2. I also took my swg apart & soaked it in vinegar. Now, no alarms are going off & we think we see little bubbles like it may be fizzing.

Where do I go from here?

I have been slamming my pool and it is now beautifully clean and algae-free. But, where do I go from here? Here is my situation. I realized that I do not think my swg is working. I do not know how to test it to be 100% sure, but I think it is broken. So, I guess I will have to chlorinate...

    Sand Filter Pressure Gauge

It reads zero when off, but never raises more than a tiny amount. It has never gotten up into the "warning" level, even when I've been slamming it.

    Sand Filter Pressure Gauge

I have the Intex Krystal Clear Sand Filter. I never see fluctuations on my pressure gauge. Does this mean I am doing something wrong or there is something wrong with the filter?

I really need help adjusting my levels

Ok, so I keep it at shock level continuously until the pool is clear unless I get a better test kit.

I really need help adjusting my levels

Ok, so where to I go from here "shocking" wise. I did the bleach regiment yesterday and today. Do I need to still be keeping it at shock level? Visibly, there is a remarkable improvement. The water is barely cloudy, to the naked eye.

I really need help adjusting my levels

I remembered one other question. A local pool person told me that I should add diatomaceous earth to my sand filter bc it would greatly increase its effectiveness. He said to just run it into the filter through the skimmer. I had never heard of this & wanted your opinion.

I really need help adjusting my levels

Yes, that is the only test kit I could get me hands on without having to order. I will definitely look at getting a better test kit or adding the chlorine test you mentioned. I am feeling very optimistic though! I have gone through the turning your green swamp back into an oasis process &...

I really need help adjusting my levels

OK. Thank you for your help & patience. I lowered my pH to 7.9. My CYA is reading at 50, BR 1, TA 90, but I am still reading zero Chlorine. I was told that I needed to do a "major" bleach treatment. How much bleach should I use & on what schedule should I dispense it?

I really need help adjusting my levels

I'm back. I got the only 6 way drop test kit I could get in my area. It doesn't, however, test the borate level. So, what should I do about that? My current readings are: FC .5 PH 8.2 TA 100 CYA 35 And according to the directions on the kit, my TH level is 30?
