    Sanitizer requires cleaning weekly...calcium hardness?

I have a 25,000 gallon pool in the Southern CA area. I am using a Pentair Intellichlor IC40 Sanitizer for my chlorine source. The past few months I have to clean the sanitizer weekly. It did not used to behave this way. It works fine, but I have to clean the unit once every week or two or it...

    Salt too high

Perhaps salt was closer to 3900 since pool store maybe was off. I must added 20 or so gallons easily. Roger

    Salt too high

Maybe the pool store electronic needle thing isn't accurate. I was just trusting it because it was electronic and I figured they would have something accurate. I drained some water today and added fresh, it's still reading 4200 so I think I have to drain a lot more next time. I guess i should...

    Salt too high

I think the 4200 is false, I think the high water temps have the test reading high.

    Salt too high

I noticed my salt water generator would occasionally flash green indicating a high salt level. Ideal salt for this Pentair model is 3400ppm, and it indicates flashing green means over 4500ppm. I think the very high pool temps, like 90 plus degrees, make it flash more readily. I bought a...

Need to shock the pool AGAIN

Ive been keeping close tabs on the FCL levels so I use the 25ml sample so I can follow it more closely.

Need to shock the pool AGAIN

Oxidizing shock is Pottasium Monpersulfate as per the initial post. I already added a ton of bleach and some of the chlorine shock to the water, and it became slightly cloudy. I guess I will just run the filter a bit more, turn off the SWG and keep the pool uncovered so I can swim in it again...

Need to shock the pool AGAIN

Prior to this week it would drop 0 overnight. So the drop of 0.4 is new but perhaps within normal? I also have to raise the SWG level this week to keep up which I've not had to do before. Looks like this is within normal though. I have not added oxidizing shock recently, not with 2-3 days...

Need to shock the pool AGAIN

I posted about a month ago a problem I was having with my SWG not being able to keep up. I needed to properly shock the pool, which I did. I have been closely monitoring the FCL levels since then, and in the past few days I notice they have been dropping, they held steady for about 30 days. I...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

It's been a few days now with the SWG back on. Shocking the pool the TFP way DOES seem to have completely cured the trouble. Before this there was never any free chlorine in the pool no matter how much I ran the SWG at 100%. Since the full shock treatment, if I run the SWG at 50% for 5 hours...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

I swam today for the first time. The combined chlorine went away Tues afternoon. I dont know why there was combined chlorine but monday night and tues morning there was some. By tuesday afternoon it was down to 0 combined again. The current FC reading is 11.5 with a CC reading of 0. I swam...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

This mornings readings were the same almost at 16 FC and 1.5 CC. At least FC stayed the same overnight and the CC went down a little or stayed basically the same. Readings are reproduce able again as well. I had a hard time getting the same reading twice in a row when it was around 30.

    Chlorinator cant keep up

I'll let it get back down to normal and use oxidizer to get rid of the cc, and see how the SWG operates first before I go through this again. This really used a LOT of electricity and Chlorine. Roger

    Chlorinator cant keep up

Tonight the readings are 16 FC, and 2 Combined Chlorine. I didn't have any combined chlorine before. It was very sunny today, does the sun cause combined chlorine readings to go high? Is this normal or did the shock somehow not work? Throughout the shock process the Combined Chlorine was...

    Oxidizing shock potassium monopersulfate

I am thinking about using a couple of pounds of this once a week in my 15,000 gallon pool to keep the SWG running smoothly and avoid having to shock the pool as often. I this stuff helpful in that regard? Roger

    Chlorinator cant keep up

It held the chlorine level after 3days of shock. Now how do I get the fcl down? I guess run the solar all day and keep the pool uncovered until its down below 10? When can I swim again? At what FCL level should I turn the SWG back on? Hopefully this will allow the SWG to handle the load...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

I have a Taylor K-2006 FAS-DPD test kit and I am having some trouble getting consistent readings at these high FC levels. I notice it's much more stable when I do the 25ml sample rather than the 10, but even back to back readings of the 25ml sample can vary by 1.4 or so, like 7-8 drops...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

The pool has gotten very hot now, the pool water is well over 95 degrees right now. I am about 20 miles inland in San Diego. It's been very sunny and warm both today and yesterday, normally I would not run the solar panels more than once a week this time of year. I want to circulate the shock...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

I raised the FCL to 30 at 7AM friday morning. I kept it at 30 all day, and it was 30 at 9PM friday night. Saturday morning at 5AM FCL is at 26.5 So I guess i have a ways to go, this is going to really use a lot of electricity. At least I found someone who has had this same problem (ping). I...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

I added the liquid chlorine to the pool around 7PM. The FC values rose for a while, then started to fall. At midnight the FC reading was 13.2, with 0.4 Combined Chlorine. At 5AM the free chlorine was 11.4 with a combined chlorine reading of 0.4. So the FC reading started to fall pretty...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

I shut off the SWG, turned on the pump, added about 1.5 gal of liquid chlorine. I've been testing the water every half hour or so, but it continues to rise. I am waiting for it to level off. Right now it tests 16.4 FC, 0.2 CC. There hasnt ever been much Combined Chlorine in the past, in any...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

So when you say "Bleach" you mean any sort of chlorinating agent. I have some liquid chlorine and calcium Hypo based shock powders at my house now. Is using the calcium hypo to get around 10ppm ok? I notice that stuff seems to dissipate quick once it starts to go. Its easier for me to use...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

I have been shocking the pool the "pool store" way. I add 2 pounds of a Calcium Hypochlorite shocking powder, and wait for it to go back down. This takes like a day or so. Right now FC is 0.5ppm or lower already. I test this every day Right now the water is very clear. The only thing I...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

CYA level is currently 75, it has been in the 50 range most of the time. This appears to make no difference at all, at 75 I am seeing the same thing I saw at 50. I have shocked the pool using chlorine shock as well as oxidizing shock in the past few months, this has no lasting effect. I test...

    Chlorinator cant keep up

I have had a 15,000 gallon swimming pool running with a Pentair IC40 Chlorinator for about 3 years now. The pool is solar heated in the southern california area, and is covered most of the time in a rural area. For the first 2.5 years or so I would keep the cell at about 40% and it would keep...
