    Vinyl liner shrinkage

Hey everybody, I wanna talk about shrinkage (I was in the pool!). I contacted a pool contractor about replacing our liner cuz its super old and out of the coping in many spots. The last owner didn't open the pool for over a decade. We rehabbed it nicely (thanks TFP!) The contractor said...

    URGENT pool filter leaking

You can probably plumb it up yourself for less than 50 bucks if you take your time and measure everything well. It's just PVC. Easy peazee, lemon squeezy. If money is an issue, it's definitely a DIY project if you have a little confidence and patience. Otherwise I would figure about 300 from...

    What to do?

Hey all, I had the pool looking great. I'm hosting a party Saturday. I just noticed a patch of something on the deep end. I brushed it and it gone. My readings were CYA ~60 FC 6 CC 0 I bumped the FC up to about 9. I'm afraid if I go all the way to shock level. The pool won't be...

New to TFP, and a bad pool owner..

What's with all the speedstir endorsements? It's not that hard to swirl a little beaker and add drops from a dropper. It's not difficult at all. Plus, the little magnet you drop into the sample probably adds more uncertainty to the test than swirling the sample manually. Furthermore, it cost...

Closing with a loop loc safety cover

Well, the past two summers I had a swamp when I opened the pool. I'm guessing It's because of the extra water I took on from snow and rain. I'm just wondering what other people with safety covers do, and if they're left with clear water when they open.

    Borax

Hey all, Pool is looking great. I'm still a little confused about whether I should add borax. Can you explain why I would use it and how much to add. I don't think the TF-100 tests for it, does it? Thanks

    Pool steps looking worn

Hey everybody, Got my pool looking good thanks to TFP. But now new issue The pool was installed in 1979. So it's old. I've noticed some rust spots on the steps and I suspect it's from nail heads starting(or finishing) to poke through the fiberglass. I guess I know this problem isn't going...

New Guy Trying to Fix Water Problems

Beautiful pool! According to the chlorine/CYA chart, you're way low on FC and your CC is too high for my liking. I would bring that FC up to 7 ppm.

    I drank the Kool-Aid....

Gotcha! thanks. Must be the most efficient and cost effective. Probably why it took me 2 weeks to clear mine up.

    I drank the Kool-Aid....

If bharkin were to bring the stabilizer up to say 40 ppm, he could probably get by with probably 2 or 3 chlorine additions/day, right? That's what I was doing; some in the afternoon some in the morning, afternoon and evening if necessary. I had to order more test chemicals though, because I...

    I drank the Kool-Aid....

I lost count, man. I was using liquid shock which is stronger than grocery store bleach. I would say I went through about 32 bottles. It really does work though. Don't loose faith. There is a day-to-day improvement. Sometimes it's small though.

    I drank the Kool-Aid....

I just went through the same thing except my CYA was 60 so I had to maintain a much higher FC level. You're not done shocking. At 25 ppm CYA you should be maintaining an FC level of 12 ppm until the water is clear, your CC is .5 or less, and the overnight free chlorine lost is 1ppm or less...

When to test/ adjust for ph

Hi, I just cleared my pool up. It took about 2 weeks. I had a pretty bad swamp. My OFCL test was at 1ppm two nights in a row, water is clear, and CC is less than 1. I didn't adjust my pH before I started shocking because like a bonehead, I didn't fully read the instructions. Anyway, I've...
