    Suggestions for a Vacuum

I have about reached my wits end with trying to keep the bottom edges of the pool clean. I can brush all I want, but it still does not get all of the sand that the wind blows in or that my flagstone edge deposits when wet and rainy. Suggestions of what can be used aside from my pool cleaner to...

Good Starting Point for Filtering Schedule

I agree with frustratedpoolmom. Running the pump most of a day is not necessary. Your water will tell you if you need to run it longer, also if you see no issues you could cut it back and still be fine. Just have to test and keep an eye on it. For our pool, I use low speed and during most of...

Extremely incorrect Temp reading from Sun Touch controller

Keep forgetting that I am still under warranty on the equipment. Just called the builder and they will come out and take a look at it.

Thanks. I have manual and shows what resistance should at certain temps.

Extremely incorrect Temp reading from Sun Touch controller

Yes, in advanced menu I can change temps but the water temp will not go below 100+ degrees. I don't know how to measure resistance. What would I need to do that? Multimeter?

Extremely incorrect Temp reading from Sun Touch controller

So, I have a Pentair SunTouch Controller and the water temperature reading is displaying 100 degrees +. True water temp is actually 52. Thing is, I can't change the water temp when I go into the menu options of the controller, will not let me lower the temperature. Any ideas?

    Adding borates to the pool

I did this recently aswell. The effect I am getting is not a good one to me. The pH seems to creep up much quicker now than in the past. Of course this means more MA needs to be put in at a time aswell. Costing more than the benefits I was expecting. Going through more than double the amount of...

So I added Borates to my pool

Last weekend I added borates to my pool using the suggested amounts of each and following the directions of the article in Pool School. For my pool, the pool calculator suggested 10.9(11) boxes of 20 mule team and 3 gallons of acid. The benefit I was looking for was to help get the pH level...

Spring contest: Name your Pool Cleaner

We named ours Oscar. He does get grouchy every once in awhile and decides to poke his head above water which usually means he will spray you too from the trailing hose.

Been awhile since I have been able to test

Thanks as always Jason. Good to hear that it is OK with colder temps to go that long, unfortunately not much I could do to help the timing. I know the water must be below 40 or so since it has been pretty cold out this way.

Been awhile since I have been able to test

How bad is it that I have not been able to test our pool?? It has been about 20-25 days since the last testing. I am sure the pH is high, will be able to finally test this evening. How long is too long for pH to be at a high level?

Noticed a change in my skimmers

Door is open. Is it safe to run a plumbing snake through the piping. Assume it would be. Only have the one valve for the 2 skimmers. Thanks.

Noticed a change in my skimmers

I have 2 skimmers in my pool. 1 is approx 15-20 ft from the pumps, the other is approx 40 ft or so away. Normally the skimmer closest to the pumps is pulling more water as I can see a more pronounced current of water moving through it. The one furthur away is not as pronounce with the way the...

    Recovering from a heavy rain

I have been in the same boat many times over the past year with heavy rains. My worst was back in May when it was a dark green and took over a month to finally clear up completely. LINK Pump on 24/7 is the best way to clear it, and keeping on top of the chlorine. Finally had the builder out to...

I stirred the CYA powder a bit, was that a mistake??

Our pool builder suggests pouring right into the skimmers. I have done so a few times in the short time I have had the pool and it works just fine. I also see the granules in the pool basket but within a few minutes it is gone.

    Water Temp questions

Yeah. Got home and with the little bit of rain yesterday the pool temp was down to 85. With it only being forecasted at 92 today, I would think it would stay down at that range. Was a nicer swim last night at 85 than it was the day prior at 90. :D

    Water Temp questions

 Water temp is up to 90 degrees yesterday. We have started looking at shade sails to give a bit more coverage on the pool and this might help. Another thought I had was to dump the ice bucket from the fridge and see what that did.

Arman Hammer Baking Soda Tablets..any downside?

Soda ash can also be found at craft stores near the fabric dyes. Wife just finished a tie dye project with some family kids and used soda ash to prepare the fabric before dyeing commenced. :-D

    Water Temp questions

So with the weather in Dallas in the 100's this week the water temp has been creeping up a couple degrees per day. Last evening I checked and it was 87  . Any adjustments needed when testing Chlorine, ph, alkalinity etc??

Battle with heavy rainfall. I lost... Round one anyway.

Also, wife was headed to pool store to look at some "toys", so, I had her take over a water sample just to get the CYA tested as I had run out of solution. Wife brings back some toys and a bottle of phosphate free or whatever they call it. She said the pool store told her the pool had 500ppm...

This weekend I am happy to say that the pool is finally back to it's normal, sparkling, crystal clear self. Pool was used everyday this past weekend with my nephews and sister in law visiting. :D 3 full weeks of 24/7 pump time. I hope to never have rain like that again. :hammer:

Pump pressure has been very good. Not even close to threshold to where it would normally need to be cleaned. The prior times I had cleaned them they were not close to the threshold either.

Water has been looking better each day. Have not had the time nor the chance to clean out the cartridges. I can atleast see through to the bottom main drain. Each day it gets a bit clearer.
