Hillside washed into pool 3x since April...pool is a pond!

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. It has been chaotic at my house. :/ Here is video that shows you how the water behaves when it rains. Since my original post, we have had 3 more washouts. I'm going to have enough dirt in that pool to start a garden! I appreciate any practical...

Hillside washed into pool 3x since April...pool is a pond!

I've said it before and I'm saying it again...I would NEVER have built this pool this way. I inherited a mess that just continues to plague me. I literally have no clue how many times the hillside above my home has washed into my pool. It is usually at least once a year. It has happened 3x...

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

WooHOOOO! Thank you, Richard 320! I will follow your directions to a T. If, I have no overnight loss, what do I add first? I need to raise my TA and CH. Thanks again!

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

Update: Yesterday, we had a lot of rain. I vac'd to waste last night to remove the the fine debris that the storms dropped in. Then I raised my water level again and cleaned my cartridges because my pressure was up. I forgot to check my FC last night. I am aggravated with myself for that...

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

Good grief! I've been SLAMing for weeks. If I have to mow 100 lawns to make enough to buy a cover for this thing so I can winterize, I will! We are NEVER EVER doing this again! I might be a little frustrated... :)

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

I floc'd a week ago. I let it drop for 5 days before I turned the pump on. I have vac'd all of that mess out. What is more probably: the suspension is from the CH being low or from dead algae?

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

What do I do to get rid of the dead algae carcasses? If my CC 1 one and I'm still cloudy, but I had no overnight FC loss, I am unsure what I need to do now. I sure don't want to make a mistake.

What do you recommend I do now?

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

Dangit! I forgot about that. CC 1 Couldn't my slight cloudiness be from the low CH though?

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

No chlorine loss overnight! I have a bit of cloudiness, but I am assuming that is a result of the low CH. I will start to balance chemicals now. Is there a particular order that I should follow on my chemical additions? Here are this morning's results: FC 16.5 pH 7.2 TA 80 CH 90 CYA 55

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

Update: I appeared to be getting nowhere during the shock process. I had my FC over 20, my CYA was 80, and I was cleaning my cartridges when my pressure went up 25%. The pool was dipped until there was nothing left. I had no visible algae growth, but I just didn't seem to be going anywhere...

Ok. CYA will start going in then. Thanks for the advice!

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

We are forecasted to get 5" of rain in the next few days. My pool will spill over. With all that water coming, should I still start the CYA additions?
  14. S

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

Ok. That makes sense. No, I haven't had a 25% increase, and my returns are still moving water well. I have not checked the CYA again. I am sure it is at or near zero because of the rain and vac to waste and subsequent water addition. I will keep brushing and keeping the chlorine levels up...

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

Chlorine is 14.5 this morning. The color doesn't appear to be any better. Here are this morning's photos. I feel like I am getting nowhere. I have rubbed my hand on the walls. Fortunately, nothing comes off. I think I have the vast majority of the junk (grass, leaves, branches) out. I...

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

Thank you for getting back with me so quickly. I just added the bleach. I will post numbers and photos in the am.

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

I can't take credit for catching on. This forum is a great resource, and smallpooldad held virtually held my hand last summer! I just checked the chlorine level. It is 10.5, so I dropped a little during the day. I am tempted to raise it back to 13. Would that be a bad idea?

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

I took two pictures. I can't explain the foam. It appeared after the bleach additions. I don't have any air in the lines, my pressure is good, and my baskets are clear. The photos are viewable on photobucket. I apologize for the trouble of having to view them there. They are only 100kb...

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

CYA was initially 0. I began adding cyanuric acid using the sock method. I haven't checked it because I thought it took about a week before you got a real reading, and I didn't think it was a part of the slam process. We git a ton of rain, and I have vac'd to waste so I wouldn't be surprised...

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

Yes, I did get the pH down, and started the SLAM process. I checked my chlorine level a few minutes ago using the FAS DPD method. It is 13. I am hoping that the water continues to clear today. It currently looks like lake water (dingy brown), but that is an improvement over the thick pea...

That makes sense. Sometimes I overlook the obvious!

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

My FC appears to be a 5 using the comparative chart that comes with the test. Because 5 is the highest number on the chart, how do I know when my FC is 10?

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

We are finally getting there. The pH appears to be 8.2. The TA is 60. I am going to add more acid. Do I need to be concerned with the TA prior to shocking?
  24. S

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

I have added more acid and started the cya using the sock method. I'll test again in about 20 minutes. I guess the bright side is that the bleach won't be burned off by the sun. There are only a few more hours of daylight here today. :)

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

It is electric pink. I used 8.2 as my reading and added 31 oz of muriatic acid. I waited 20 minutes and tested again. I still had the electric pink color, so I added 16 oz more of muriatic acid. Again, I waited 20 minutes. Again, the color was electric pink. How much do you suggest I...

pH over 45? Is that even possible?

My pool is a green slimy mess again. I have removed the leaves, brushed the walls, vac'd to waste, and cleaned the cartridges. Now, I am ready to slam this thing. I tested my water using the Taylor TF-100 (kit purchased new last year.) My pH was too high to get a reading using the...

Citric acid for $2/14 oz at the local feed store

I finally found a local source for citric acid. My local feed store has it in 410 gm (a little over 14 oz) packages. I got almost 6 pounds for $12 and some change. I also got a 50# bag of baking soda for $14, and they were able to get me a better price on muriatic acid than my local hardware...

Heavily stained fg pool with red/rust scale? (pics attached)

Re: Heavily stained fg pool with red/rust scale? (pics attac Amazing instructions! Thank you so much for being so thorough! I mopped the pool tonight....I noticed that the brush (although fairly new) was doing a bad job of cleaning the walls but my thumb did a great job, so I got one of...
