New Pool Quote Central TX - need advice

I would say you're a little high without a hot tub. If you want to PM me, I can point you to our builder who did a wonderful job!

    OKC renovation - forty-year facelift

Re: OKC renovation started 11.27.13 Yeah, I looked into a portable one as well. There are definitely pros and cons there. The portable ones have a million jets which make them nice for true therapy, but they're not exactly cheap. I tend to err on the side of quality because I want to buy and...

    OKC renovation - forty-year facelift

Re: OKC renovation started 11.27.13 Very nice. Too bad you can't easily resurrect the hot tub. The kiddos and I have been playing in ours almost every night. So fun to warm it to about 97-98 and hang out while its in the 30s. An in-ground, matching hot tub would be icing on the cake!

    So what does everyone drive?

I bought me a 2012 Pro4X just last week. Replaced my Chevy Avalanche and I'm loving it so far! The wifey drives a 2009 Nissan Armada.

    Robotic pool cleaner suggestions

Polaris makes both. The 9300 and 9400 series are "robotic" cleaners.

Standby Power Usage of Intelliflo VF

At 30W and an average of $0.25/kWh, that works out to about $5 a month. Not a huge deal is it?

    Robotic pool cleaner suggestions

I've used an Aquabot T4, Blue Diamond Pro, and Polaris 9300xi. The Polaris is by FAR the easiest to clean as you just remove the tray and spray it out. Agree, the bag is a pain in Rear!

    Flooded pool

Ran my pool cleaner and filter A LOT. I did use the packets, mostly because the flood of water knocked my CYA below recommended levels. I'm using a floater with pucks right now since CYA is still on low side. TA was down around 40 so added about 4 lbs of baking soda which brought it to about 70...

    Flooded pool

Well, finally getting back to normal! We are told that rain was a 10-20 year flood. If it occurs any more often than that I'm going to have to do some research on additional drainage!

    Leaf eater

I don't know. $465 annualized over the next 5-10 years with zero power output doesn't sound so bad to me. Especially since it'll also keep the bottom of your pool cleaner, reducing the cleaning cycle of your bottom feeder, by preventing some of the gunk that's on top from sinking to the...

    Leaf eater

I've seen mixed reviews on the Pool Skim. Some love it, others not so much. Plus, running your pump costs extra $$. While a little more expensive, I'd go this route if I had that bad of a leaf problem- http://www.amazon.com/Solar-Breeze-0048 ... B00DF7WCWE.

Bids Rolling In and My Questions Rolling Out :-D

I was negotiating right up to the day I signed the contract. The pool builder can always say no and I can always go somewhere else. Much of a PBs flexibility comes down to how skinny they quoted in the first place.

    Flooded pool

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, it sucks. Curious about these shock packets at Home Depot? What does it add other than chlorine? For $3.99 a packet for 20K gallons, it looks like a cheaper alternative right now than adding a bunch of bleach and I think my CYA is low anyway due to the rain. On...

    Flooded pool

Well, we had some major rain a few days ago. We live on a slight slope so we get a good amount of run off from other yards above us. Unfortunately, it was enough to crest the deck at 6" - 8" above ground level and flood into the pool. I went from a crystal clear pool to a swamp in a matter of...

    Paver Issue - Belgard Urbana

I have Begard Lafit and polymeric sand. None of the issues you're describing. Sounds as though your installer didn't have very good quality control!

Pool patio paver selection - am I overthinking it?

I have Belgard Lafit. Like it a lot! We live in Austin and Pavestone is about 40 miles south of us. My installer had bad things to say about Pavestone quality. I don't think you can really go wrong either way. I had a few samples of Artistic Pavers and I REALLY liked them, but shipping put...

Thanks cbink! I had to throw the robot in the pool directly after taking the pics. Can't have those leaves laying there in the bottom! :-) All credit goes to TFP and the BBB method!

    show off your pebblesheen!

I have White Diamonds with the shimmering sea mixed in. We were originally looking at Aqua Blue but my builder talked us out of it for a few reasons. Glad he did. My pool gets full sunlight during the day so it stays cooler than the darker shades. I can also see dirt and things on the bottom...

Unless you're building a $150K - $200K pool, it's unlikely your pool builder is making $20K on the deal.

I have a revitalized Aquabot T4 RC and a brand new Polaris 9300xi. Wife says I have to sell one. I'll give you a good deal if you want one of em! :-)
