    Sand Filter how to check?

But, how can you be sure the "finer sand" is coming from the return and not from the environment around the pool?

What is the best Filter medium?

I'm not an expert, but from what I've read here on the forum, they each have their pros and cons. It's a matter of balancing them out for your own needs. If I recall, correctly... Cartridges provide the cleanest filtering, but it is more work to clean. DE is next best in filtering, but you...

    Aquabot Rover Jr questions

Well, I let the thing go for the full 2 hours, then pulled it out and cleaned the bag. It didn't have much in it. But, there sure was a lot of dirt left on the bottom of my pool. So, I cleaned the bag, changed the pin to the front (small turns) and I'm letting it try again. I'm really hoping...

    Aquabot Rover Jr questions

Thanks, Tdog. I don't mind washing the bag each use. But, I don't want to have to wash it more than once PER use. I just figured out the pin placement. On a given side (forward or back), it simply sets how much it turns per reversal. The left and right sides are for determining the...

    Aquabot Rover Jr questions

I just received my new Aquabot Rover Jr. I was very excited because of the great review, here. I returned my Hayward AquaBug, which I was unhappy with. Sadly, it's not performing as I had hoped. It goes across the pool (oval, appx 12x24) just fine. But, it's not doing so well at picking up...

How fast do pucks increase CYA?

I have a Frog and only recently learned (from here) about the unfortunate side effect of increasing CYA. I'm using only the chlorine cartridge, not the mineral. If I keep it on a fairly low setting (say 1), can anyone give me a rough idea of how long it takes to start having a signficant...

CYA Replace water? Or, just Add?

The most excellent Pool Calculator says I need to replace 12% of my water to reduce my CYA from 57 to 50. Is it sufficient to simply ADD water, or do I actually need to empty and replace? Also, how much difficulty is CYA of 57 going to cause my vinyl AGP?

How soon can swim after borate?

I'm planning to try the borate recommendation from this site (50 ppm) and I'm wondering how soon after applying the borax and muriatic acid we can safely swim.

    OK to refridgerate test kit?

Dave, That's what I was wondering. But, if the temp in my house fluctuates, how big a problem is that?

    OK to refridgerate test kit?

The kit manual says to store in temps from 36 to 85 F. How cold does the typical fridge get?

    OK to refridgerate test kit?

I just bought a Taylor K-2006. The box says to keep in a cool, dry place. I don't always run the air conditioning in my house, so the temp can fluctuate. How about keeping the kit in the fridge? Will that work? Or, is it too cold?

Fish Eye return port is adjustable?

I took a gamble and tried to unscrew the cap holding the fish eye. It worked! I was able to move the eye to any positions, except that moving it too far horizontally or vertically caused the edge of the eye to be behind the edge of the cap, slightly obstructing flow. Still, I think I've...

    Vendor suggestions/opinions?

I've had good experience with InTheSwim.com. Anyone have positive or negative comments about these: http://www.automaticpoolcleaneroutlet.com/ http://www.waterwarehouse.com Any other outlets you're particularly happy with or ones to stay away from?

Any way to get bigger vacuum hole?

Here's the result of my testing, so far... My hose from the skimmer to the pump has several joints (don't ask!), so I bought some putty that hardens like steel and sealed all those seams. Then, I ran the pump with the skimmer lid on and vacuum hose attached. I rubbed shaving cream over all...

Fish Eye return port is adjustable?

Mine is close to that pic, except the edges are thin and have no ribs for gripping. Would I have to lower my water level to loosen it? Might I damage my agp by letting water through the seal?

Fish Eye return port is adjustable?

I think I read, here, that the fish eye return port is supposed to be adjustable. I poked around at mine (doughboy agp) and it didn't budge. Any suggestions? Or, are some models in fixed position?

Any way to get bigger vacuum hole?

Yeah, I've been doing that, but I can't find one that fits the rectangle doughboy skimmer. I've only found round ones.

Any way to get bigger vacuum hole?

The basket is round, but it sits in a rectangular skimmer, which has a rectangular lid.

Any way to get bigger vacuum hole?

Oh, I've seen THOSE. Unfortunately, my doughboy skimmer is rectanglular.

Any way to get bigger vacuum hole?

That's an interesting idea. The only skimmer plates I've found, so far, are simple lids that seal the skimmer so the water all comes in through the small vacuum hole in the wall. Any idea where to look for something like that?

Any way to get bigger vacuum hole?

My AGP has an awfully small vacuum adapter hole below the in-wall skimmer. Then, it gets even smaller when INSERT the hose into it. It's causing my pump basket to drop water level, either through leaks or through "cavitation". That doesn't happen during normal skimming operation. So, that...

How does a sand filter work?

Thanks, Jason. So, the water goes down through the sand and up through the center pipe and out to the pool?

How does a sand filter work?

I'm curious about how a sand filter works... Does the water seep through the sand from top to the bottom and then out to the pool? Or, does it go from the bottom of the sand to the top and then out?

Sand filter question - the center pipe seal?

My doughboy sand filter has a single pipe coming up from the center-bottom to the lid/multi-port. I believe this is a fairly standard configuration. Is the pipe supposed to seal with the hole in the lid? How tight a seal should it be? If it doesn't seal, what effect does that have on filtering?

    Confused about testing for TA

I just switched to a liquid based tester from strips. I'm fine with testing clorine and ph, but I'm really confused about Total Alkalinity. The instructions say to add the initial drop(s), then count the drops of another type until there's a "permanent color change". What does that mean? I...

Hayward Aqua Bug auto vacuum keeps floating up

This is weird. I bought the Hayward Aqua Bug auto vacuum because my friend had such great experience with his. But, after running fine for a while (greater than 30 mins), MY bug sometimes gains buoyancy and floats up to half way or even all the way to the surface -- while running. I can't...

    Huge pressure buildup when vaccuming

When I turn off the pump after vaccuming, I get a HUGE water eruption back through the skimmer. It almost blows the basket right out of the skimmer (and soaks my shirt, too!). That can't be good, right? Is that an indicator that something is wrong with my setup?
