Same here. I had a "spaz stir", replaced batteries and it went back to normal. I'd try a different set of new batteries.

Is Leslie's salt cell testing any better than their water testing?

Had to. It had been painted when we bought the house, and the paint was getting pretty bad with flaking, chips, etc...

Is Leslie's salt cell testing any better than their water testing?

I took the cell to Leslie's yesterday and it tested good, so I'll see if it makes it through the season. James W- I can't give you any numbers because I just got done filling the pool after a complete drain for repainting. I'm in the process of balancing the water now, then have to add around...

Is Leslie's salt cell testing any better than their water testing?

Thanks, guys. I'm taking it in tomorrow. Didn't expect them to estimate how long it would last, just a go/no go determination. Thanks again.

Is Leslie's salt cell testing any better than their water testing?

I have a Goldline T15 cell and Aquarite G1 control that is at least 8 years old. I think it was starting to fail at the end of last season, but had other concerns that overrode the pool at that time, so maintained the pool with bleach- being it was so late in the season. I'd like to have the...

    Treating post rodent suicide

I pull the gauge pin when the pump is off and pressure is at 0- don't know if it matters as long as the glycerine doesn't shoot out. As far as tightening it, if it's in the right position and doesn't leak, it would be good in my world. I had a small possum swimming in my pool Thursday...

Alternate Contaners for MA and more...

Go down to your local Leslie's and get a couple of their bottles for the free water test. They are 8 ounce capacity. I always get 2, on for the pool and one for the hot tub. I fill one an ounce at a time and mark the level with a sharpie. See...those free water tests DO have a purpose.

    Warning About Walmart Liquid Chlorine

I had a UFR (unplanned fecal release) in the pool this weekend with a 2 year old. Immediately dumped the bleach on hand into the pool and headed to Wal Mart for more. They had a whole end full of the 10% pool chlorinating liquid on display. I checked date codes, some of it was from September...

I have a sump in the basement that was sealed off during a radon abatement procedure when we bought the house. The cover does have a vent in it that is about 1 1/2".

    Hobbies ?

No- I've only lived here 3-4 years. Did all my astronomy in Colorado. Much drier air out there, no haze like there is here.

    Hobbies ?

Nice job, jeffchap. I've photographed with everything from an 8" Celestron to a 24" observatory Cassegrain. I always referred to it as a hobby for people who got tired of splitting hairs for a hobby. Keep it up and post more if you have them, please.

The PROs and CONs of SWG

The grandkids came over with friends the other day. The 10 year old friend jumps in, comes up and says "WOW ! My eyes don't burn in your pool." I'll keep a SWG system as long as I have a pool. Get your water chemistry in a sweet spot and acid addition is a occasional thing to do. Mine has...

Pump losing prime/not performing properly - pump failing?

You could remove all the plastic, sweat in a copper 45 elbow facing away from the pump on the existing copper, then sweat in a suitably long piece of straight copper with another 45 and a street elbow on the other end to get you up to the input level of the pump and turned in towards the pump...

    Elks Pool

Vince- I salute you for your dedication to this project. As a former enthusiastic user of an Elks Club pool during my childhood, know you are making some kids summer more enjoyable. The crud on the floor could indeed be dead algae. I had the same brown deposits on the floor and it took me a...

    brownish dust - guano?

If it was guano, I'd think your chlorine demand would be terribly high, along with your CC readings. My guess would be dirt or dead algae. Try the DE in your sand filter trick, see if it doesn't go away or is reduced.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Haven't found those yet, but our sun room has nickles and dimes everywhere. The 2 fancy themselves poker players...they take after their grandmother. Must have had a couple hot games going on during our absence. I had them adding 2 oz/person/hour when I told them 2-4 ounces of bleach per...

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

We left town for a week. The Good: 2 grandsons (18 & 16) were house sitting. I brought the FC level up to max, made sure all other numbers were good, tweaked the SWG up some, threw a floater in with 1 puck and said adios. We got back a week later and the pool was still clear as a bell and all...

Algae back less than a week post SLAM

Drop a ping pong ball, tennis ball or something small that will float along the edge of your pool and watch it. It should float all the way around your pool if your circulation is good. If not, it will show you where the dead zones are. I get the best results from my returns by having them...

    PSA: Be careful handling chemicals

I measure and pour MA in the garage on my bench. I keep a large plastic pitcher there about 3/4 full of water with a cup of baking soda added to it. Need help with leak detection

Is your skimmer and main drain plumbed independent from each other....do you have a valve that opens/ closes each one ? If you do, you could close one and leave the other open, run your pump for a cycle and see if your level drops. If not, switch which valve is open/closed and repeat. This...

Pressure gauge goes up and down...

Raise your water level to about half way up your skimmer opening, keep it there and I'll bet your problem goes away. Sounds like your skimmer doesn't have enough water to keep it filled and your pump is sucking it dry. Those skimmers are hungry and you have to keep them fed.
