Overheating heater - Minimax millvolt CH 250M

Have you checked the exhaust flue to make sure there is no blockage or soot build up? The fuseable link will blow if there is a flameover or too much heat and that usually happens when the heat can't exahust from the unit.

    Sanity Check !!!

Just note that your usage will go up with more swimming. This process really is that simple. A really handy part of the poolmath site is at the bottom "Effects of adding chemicals". I use it to see how much FC is added with whatever bleach source I am using. Right now I have a stockpile of...

    Dirt thrown in the pool

Had a similar issue with fine dirt in the pool. Had to vacuum to waste a couple times to get it out. It would go right through the filter and back into the pool. When it settled, the pool was crystal clear, but swimming would churn it up and the pool would look cloudy.

    Doing TFP right or not?

4th season for me, has always been crystal clear. Quick test every day and feed it some chlorine. Treat it like a pet. Feed it every day to keep happy and it won't bite you!

    Public pools

My favorite is when you overhear people say that since they can smell the chlorine the water is fine! Then when you explain that if you smell chlorine it is actively killing organics they look at you like you are crazy!

How to shock a salt water pool

bosco0633, boomingsooner, - what are you CYA levels you are at? You can't make a judgement about an FC amount without a CYA level. They go hand in hand.

    Gunite Pool Stain from firework

Asking a question for a friend at work. Last 4th of July, he had firework debris land in their gunite IG pool. He thought he had gotten it all out, but the next day there were 4 brownish stains on the bottom. Just scrubbing them does not take them off. Anyone have any experience with this...

Is Liquid Chlorine a viable option with extreme heat?

Do you have any Ollie's Bargain outlets near you? They usually have 12.5% pool shock around 2.99 a gallon. Important to use poolmath and set the chlorine strength to determine how much to add. Easy to forget to change the 6%, 8%, 12.5% when you buy different types of chlorine...

Is Liquid Chlorine a viable option with extreme heat?

They key to this method is only adding the chemical you need to maintain your target levels. Solid forms of chlorine add stabilizer, which over the course of an entire season will climb too high. I have a 14k gallon above ground pool. I add stabilizer to get it to a level of 40. This means...

    TA Question

Just opened a crystal clear pool from the long cold Buffalo winter. Thanks TFP! Initial test were all in line. FC=8 keeping a little high as it is cold and i only check every few days until it warms up CC=0 CYA=40 PH=7.5 TA=130 salt=500 (for water feel) borates=40-50 All last year my ph...

Slam questions I can't seem to find answers to....

The OCLT test is to see if you are losing chlorine to killing organics, not sunlight. So the first test should be done after sunset and the next test before sunrise - that way you eliminate the impact on sunlight on the results. Like others have stated, you never really have to worry about...

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

So about 3 weeks in with borates. Also added 2 40lb bags of salt for feel. Have to say after swimming, my skin no longer feels dried out. The kids even noticed I do not have "scratchy hands" any more and the dry skin on me elbows is gone. PH is also staying very stable too. So far so good!

    Stairs in pool or outside

I have similar stairs. Here is a tip if you need to take them out for the winter. These stairs want to float. Instead of filling the frame with sand as the instructions state, I take 4 1 gallon jugs and fill them with sand and then water. Then I zip tie them to the frame inside the legs to...

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

Went the boric acid route last weekend. Water clarity is now stunning. Water did not feel any different, but my skin did not feel dried out after swimming all day. So far so good.

New pool owner.. Want to go BBB but very very nervous.. Help calm my nerves.. :)

Remember you only need 5 lbs of stabilizer to get to a cya level a little over 40. You'll add that once the filter is running by putting in a sock hanging by the return. Keep experimenting with pool math.

New pool owner.. Want to go BBB but very very nervous.. Help calm my nerves.. :)

You'll need to add some muriatic acid to your shopping list. That will bring PH down. The poolmath tab will calculate how much to use to get into range. When does the pool go up?

    Hazy water, and stinging eyes?

According to pool math, the FC range for a cya of 60 is 5 to 9. You are right at the floor if you are testing at 5. You might want to raise it closer to 8 or 9.

No special type. Probably find it cheaper at Walmart or Ollie's. Might need a couple containers, but only add 5lbs to the pool. More is not better.

New pool owner.. Want to go BBB but very very nervous.. Help calm my nerves.. :)

Start with just ph and total alkalinity. CYA and CL we know will be zero. did you start stocking up on liquid chlorine? You'll need 5lbs of stabilizer for your pool to get to a cya level a little over 40. Once that is dissolved in the pool you don't need to worry much about it. Maybe test...

Once you get your kit, post a full set of results from your fill water and we can point you in the right direction on what to do after your initial fill. Get some CYA and chlorine. Either way - use this method. Have you experimented with poolmath yet? This will guide you through exactly what to add to the pool as you go. Trust the site - once you are dialed in, the daily maintenance is less than 5 minutes. Just a quick chlorine test and then put in some CL to get to...

Looking to buy our first pool.. Wondering about pricing and options..

Have you considered a cartridge filter? I use one in the identical size pool and love it. I bought a 2nd cartridge and just swap them out weekly and hose off the dirty one. Quick and easy. Plus simple to break down and store for the winter.

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

Question about using Boric Acid and TA.. I am thinking of adding borates using Boric Acid. My TA is currently between 90 an 100. Pool math shows under the effects of adding chemicals that adding 535 oz of boric acid only impacts PH by lowering it .29 for my 14000 gallons. It does not show an...

You'll never have to worry about them. I have used this method since my pool went up last year. I have never added anything to the pool except bleach and borax. I have the pool dialed in so that I know my FC floor is 4 and I try to keep at 7. I know from pool math that 1 cup of 12.5%...

    Bonding Question

I have 4 legs bonded, the filter, and NY requires 9 sq in metal plate in the skimmer basket to bond the water. I sarcastically asked that since I am bonded with $250 Worth of copper if I could swim in an electrical storm. inspector didn't appreciate the comment.
