    Shock & Acid

Thanks, I’ve definitely been getting the relationship between pH, muriatic acid, and CYA a bit confused. I’ll put some more effort into testing and thinking about CYA going forward.

    Shock & Acid

Just started opening pool season. We’re shocking pools and adding acid if pH is high. A coworker of mine is sometimes hesitant to add muriatic acid and liquid chlorine at the same time. He says the chlorine will kill the acid and basically waste it. From what I’ve read here, the way acid and...

    Spa Blowers Overheating

Not exactly sure, maybe 5-8 years or so based on the condition of the house and pool. Nice place. No major remodels that we’re aware of. I asked the boss about AJW’s suggestions. Said he’s tried lowering RPM’s. I also suggested the diagnostic method of starting very low and bumping...

    Spa Blowers Overheating

Hartford Loop. Sorry, seen that abbreviated on TFP before so thought it may be commonly done so.

    Spa Blowers Overheating

Also - the equipment is about 60’ away and about 10’ below the spa. The HL is about another 30’ away north of the spa, so maybe 90’ from equipment. Again, an untrained opinion, and I’m unsure on the specifications of the exact blowers, but I thought this might be quite a long run for these two...

    Spa Blowers Overheating

What you’re saying makes sense to me but it’s hard to say because I’m just a rookie and I trust that he’s trying as hard as possible. I wonder how low they have tried the pump RPM and I’d be curious to see. Is there a certain point to which the RPM would be so low that the pressure is no longer...

    Spa Blowers Overheating

Talked to the boss about this suggestion. He said he has tried lowering the pump RPM. Said he’s contacted everyone he knows in the pool industry and has tried everything everyone has suggested. It’s driving him crazy and he really wants to fix it but he’s racked his mind about it and nothing has...

    Spa Blowers Overheating

We were brought in to help with an existing pool/spa. The spa jets and air work independently when turned on individually. The jets and air work when turned on together if no jet bodies are in. When jet bodies are in, and we attempt to turn jets and air on together, the blowers idle up when the...

Pump humming, no flow, then shuts off.

I didn’t get a chance to look at the pump again myself. The boss went today and got it going. Told/showed me that the shaft had simply seized over the winter from rust or corrosion. He used a pair of needle nose to twist the impeller from inside to break and turn it, and got the pump to run.

    About liquid chlorine

Getting into opening season and I’m impressed by the power of shock, liquid chlorine, in clarifying and cleaning these pools that at once have bottoms unable to see and then a few days later makes such a big difference. Curious about the actual science behind how this chemical process works...

Pump humming, no flow, then shuts off.

Pictures of the electrical system. Wiring box looks pretty nasty but connections seemed decent.

Pump humming, no flow, then shuts off.

Pool industry rookie. Opening a pool and the pump is not working. Tried to attach a video but can’t from my phone and picture files are too large. Hums with no visible flow or pressure then shuts off after about 10 seconds. Any thoughts or suggestions? Based on a forum I was reading last night...
