    Pressure cleaner pump configuration question

Thanks Jason, that did occur to me too. What components would you imagine would be affected? The pump internals seem pretty robust and there are not many moving parts within the cleaner that are directly in contact with the delivery water. I could see how the leaf bag might deteriorate faster.

    Pressure cleaner pump configuration question

Hi, my pool runs a flooded system (pipes and all equipment are well below water level) so no issues with pumps needing to prime. I have just bought a new booster pump for my Polaris pressure cleaner to replace the clapped out spa pump it is currently using. The Polaris manual specifies that the...

    Question on Costs

In my experience the chemical costs are not significant when compared to the energy costs. When we moved to a house with a pool our power bill doubled, and the pool isn't even heated. This depends though on energy costs in your area, whether you can access off-peak tariffs and what equipment the...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Still trying to nut this one out. I just replaced my spider gasket after noticing a leak to waste. The leak is still there but significantly reduced. I also noticed that there is a trickling/bubbling sound on the return side of the multi-port when the pump is running(regardless of speed). Could...

    Main drain question

Re: Main drain question for Aussies Thanks Bama. I realised after a bit more investigation that my main drain IS connected to my skimmer. I often wondered what that dirt clogged hole in the front of the skimmer was for. When we bought the house, the skimmer did not have a weir door on...

    Main drain question

Is there a difference between Australian and US plumbing codes regarding the connection of the main drain to pump suction line? The only thing connected to my suction line is the skimmer

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

I tried opening the 3 way valve (as suggested by Mas) to return water via the returns and the waterfall. The waterfall hose is 1.25" flexible pvc. I dug it out and returned it to the pool at deck level so that I could see the flow. I then closed off the Polaris booster return (must remember to...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Tried shutting the valve on the Polaris return so that all pumped flow would go through the chlorinator cell. It didn't make any discernible difference to the flow in the cell housing and the bubble formed just as quickly. I did manage to create another job for myself though when I forgot to...

SWG Flow Sensor vs Water Sensor & Flow Rate Issues

Wow, I've really sparked a debate here! Cool! From what I witnessed yesterday, I think Strannik has pretty much hit it on the head with the quoted comment above. After 30 minutes of low speed and 1/2 dose (the third bubble photo on the original thread), the sensor was sitting right in the tail...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Thanks, I understand the purpose of reversing the polarity, but like you I fail to see how it coiuld be related to this problem

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Will give it a go tomorrow and report back. Also, the installer got back to me and they have logged a warranty claim with the supplier. They mentioned there may be a problem with the polarity reversing on the cell - not sure exactly what they were referring to or how this would lead to the...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

I just had another thought while watching my Polaris dance around the pool, which should have seemed bloody obvious to me before now  If you look at my pipework in the photo above, in between the multi-port and the cell housing is an off-take for the Polaris. Obviously ( :hammer: ) when...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Yes, as mentioned in one of my earlier posts, running on re-circulate significantly reduces the problem No I've since found others that don't have the problem (both above and below water line installations) and at least one that does (above water line installation). I agree with Mas - in each...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Is there a recommended height for the installation of the salt cell ie. below multi-port return or above and by how much? Does the position really matter?

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Thanks Jason - I was wondering if someone was going to step in. I did a bit more playing and felt brave enough to leave the pump on low speed a bit longer. Here's some photos of what happened at low speed (supposedly 128 Lpm/28gpm) and chlorinator on half (15g/hr - don't ask me to convert that...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

More healthy debate  I haven't waited to see whether the bubble will cause the cell to shut down on 'no flow'. I realised that the cell shouldn't be operating with an expanding bubble in the housing, so on every occasion I have shut down the cell and/or run the pump on full speed to...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

With respect, is this thread starting to drift off topic? The off topic posts moved to the Deep End. JasonLion Haven't tried the waterfall test yet ... I'll have to give that a go on the weekend. I've posted on another forum and found others wiith the same equipment who are not experiencing...

SWG Flow Sensor vs Water Sensor & Flow Rate Issues

Re: Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed Thanks Mas, you're assumption is correct and I can give it a try. I can't really use the waterfall in its currrent state (that's another project - see signature), but the plumbing uses a heavy duty flexible hose so I can just re-route that back into the...

SWG Flow Sensor vs Water Sensor & Flow Rate Issues

Re: Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed I would do that too, if only the manual included such information. Back to one of my original questions - is there anything in the sand filter that I should check? The SWG seems to get adequate flow when the multi-port is set to re-circulate.

SWG Flow Sensor vs Water Sensor & Flow Rate Issues

Re: Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed Hi guys and thanks for the healthy debate on my problem. I should clarify the original topic title by removing the word "Air". With the salt cell turned off the cell housing stays fully primed and no bubbles appear in the unit at all. In fact, the SWG...

SWG Flow Sensor vs Water Sensor & Flow Rate Issues

Re: Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed Thanks, I have written to Astral Pools (manufacturer of pump and chlorinator) as shown below. I'll let you know the response. I am hoping that you can assist me with a problem I am having with my Astral chlorinator and pump. I purchased a VX9T...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Thanks Mas, I agree re: the eyeballs. SWG works much better with multi-port set to re-circulate so it is obviously a flow issue. I don't really see increasing the rpm as an acceptable option though. I just spent $900 on this pump, which will be a complete waste of money if I can't run it at low...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

I should have also pointed out that all equipment is well below the water level, so there should be at least 1 metre of static head, plus plenty of head loss from about 10 metres of 40mm pipe and heaps of 90 deg bends. Do you still think the no eye-balls would be a problem? I plan to experiment...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Thanks guys, I've been playing around with speeds and chlorinator settings since first post. I've bumped up the low speed from 1375 to 1500 rpm, but even with the chlorinator set at the lowest settings (1/8 = around 4g/hr) the bubble slowly forms to the point where the cell plates are exposed...

Air/gas in SWG with pump on low speed

Hi TFP, I considered installing a Intelliflow variable speed pump to save on energy costs, but unfortunately I was given what Aussies call a 'bum steer' (look it up :goodjob: ) on the price so I went with a significantly cheaper variable speed pump that is available here in Sydney, the Hurlcon...

Intelliflo VF question from down under

Thanks guys for your patience and great responses. Regarding 1) and 2) - my guess is that the flow is metered and the pressure is derived. Both can't be derived from the pump curve because Intelliflo would need to know the flow in order to derive the pressure and vice versa. The Intelliflo...
