When operating a 2500 RPMs there's usually a bubble the size of a quarter at the top of the lid of the pump strainer. When operating at the lower RPM levels, I see 3-4 bubbles in the strainer lid. The pump isn't losing prime, but the return side pressure is definitely variable with tiny air...

Thanks Duraleigh. Makes sense. Last question (I hope/think), is it not out of the ordinary to have something like this happen even without dropping below a min FC-level of 3 for my CYA (I run on average at 5) and immediately passing the OCLT (1 before SLAMming and the other immediately after)?
