    Struggling with Algae

Thanks. I was just now reading various posts on the topic. It seems CuLator is a product that boasts such a promise but there is not much indication by way of reviews to confirm whether it is true. My concern is that we are on a subdivision well. Even if I drain and refill, I might be...

    Struggling with Algae

Back to square-one. I wish I had some of the stuff at the bottom to test like you suggested. It was all vacuumed away. However, I am back to having metal stains on the floor. History: Metal stains on floor. Treated with ascorbic acid. Added RAM Metal Hold. Metal dissolved. 10...

    Struggling with Algae

I thought it might be metal, too. Copper test showed 0. It is not perfect yet, but noticeably bluer than yesterday. It was green from Friday afternoon through the time I went to sleep last night. When, the sun would come out, it was almost so bad, you could not see the drain at the bottom...

    Struggling with Algae

It's clearing up. Here's a note that maybe could be added to the stickies that address using borax and dealing with algae. My pool was nice and clear on Friday. I checked and saw that both Chlorine and pH were very low. I tried first to bring up the pH using borax. Within 20 minutes, I...

    Struggling with Algae

Got it. Chlorine is nice and high. How long should it take before the water starts to clear. I load the pool up heavy as can be with it, but it is as if it has no effect on water color or clarity. In fact, exposure to the sun makes it a but more soupy, and this is AFTER I just put 5 more...

    Struggling with Algae

Which post contains instructions on how to do the dilution method. I almost bet I could guess how it is done, but I want to be sure.

    Struggling with Algae

I used the pool calculator. I agree it is guessing after that. What I am trying to find out is what is the behavior I should be looking for? Any short-term signs? Like keep adding a pound an hour until you see the water clear?

    Struggling with Algae

My pool has algae. I need a few tips. Saturday evening, I added enough bleach to bring Chlorine to around 15 - 20 ppm. CYA was 50. No help. Sunday morning, I added 5 lbs. 73% Cal Hypo. Pool is around 20,000 gal. No help. This morning, I see some dead algae has fallen to the floor...

    Water too green

Oh, by the way, I could easily bring the PH down to around 7.0 - 7.2 if that would help. Would it?

    Water too green

Thanks. I got some stuff for copper chelation. I hope it works on time for tomorrow. I don't know of any copper pipes. There is no heater. There used to be a heater when we moved in last season, but it was junked and by-passed with PVC. The only thing I can think of is that the copper...

    Water too green

    Water too green

I don't know how to check CYA. Maybe I need a better kit. Water is clear and green. This AM, PH was at about 6.8. I raised it to 7.2. Chlorine was 0. I raised it to about 2.0. This is about 10 days post-treatment with ascorbic acid. Water was not as green before Borax added, but PH...

    Water too green

PH 7.2, Chlorine 2. 20,000 gal, Plaster. My PH was too low, and my chlorine was too low. I put bleach in, and then, some Borax to bring levels up to levels as stated above. Water is now too green. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Ascorbic Acid Treatment almost got all the Metal

No problem. Glad to finally see a reply. The 11 pounds of ascorbic acid came in. I was hoping someone in here knew something about what it would take to Overdose a pool with ascorbic acid. I feel like a heavy dose is in order, but don't want to do something stupid and regrettable.

Ascorbic Acid Treatment almost got all the Metal

Pool was severely neglected by previous owners. Metal stained probably 30+% of the bottom. Maybe 20,000 gallon pool. Plaster. I used 2 lbs ascorbic acid, and it worked pretty good. 2 days later, I added another 2 lbs. It helped even more. I would guess it got about 85% of all the...

    Algae after Ascorbic Acid treatment

I treated with ascorbic acid over the last 2 days. This morning, I woke up and saw the water has turned green. I just added 96 oz of 6% bleach. How long should it take the bleach to dissolve? Also, should this be sufficient to remove the algae?
