    Leak! Ug. Any advice?

Wonder if the pool stores here even have winterizing plugs. Not much winter in south Florida! Worth a shot.

    Leak! Ug. Any advice?

The pool has 1 main drain, 1 skimmer, 2 returns, and a dedicated vaccuum port that a Great White auto cleaner runs on pretty much all the time. The valves are all plastic ball valves (I know, not the best choice...tell that to the installer). I have closed the main drain valve as best I can...

    Leak! Ug. Any advice?

Greetings all. I woke up a week or so ago to find my concrete inground pool a good 10" lower than the night before. The pump was running over night but there were no wet spots anywhere (plumbing, grass, etc). It was down to just below the skimmer. There are no visible cracks anywhere. It was...

Selecting Auto Pool Cleaner: price is an issue

Hi all. I've had a Hayward Navigator for a few years. At first, the thing was great....fast, cleaned well, practicaly climed out of the pool. Things went downhill from there. I've replaced pretty much every part and it still will not "go." Suction and filter pressure are fine, impeller spins...

    Never have I seen....

my pool look so PERFECTLY CRYSTAL CLEAR!! I've had this house for over 11 years and until I took matters into my own hands for testing and treatment (based of course on the superb help and information here), i was CONSTANTLY battling algae growth and terribly uninviting pool water. I can't...

First swim after changing over to BBB...questions

I still don't have the FAS DPD test, but the color result is essnentially the same night to morning. I just got home and tested the FC after a long day of swimming (kids) and a hot sunny day: FC=1ish again. Is it safe to say that I'm going to lose 4 points per day when we swim? That calculates...

First swim after changing over to BBB...questions

Thanks all. I dropped the CYA to 50 with some water change. If the FC is stable overnight with the pump running, then why would the drop be contributable to organics in the pool? I'll know more later after another sunny day and kids swimming.

First swim after changing over to BBB...questions

My FC held strong at right around 5 overnght, so, the pool is open for business. The family went swimming today for the first time since starting this last week. I came home to jump in myself and decided to test the water...because I can with my new test kit  FC=1 ?! 1ish even What in...

Getting my pool right and moving to BBB...questions, of cour

i called the Leslies near here. They don't have it but he said what they do if they want to get a near-true reading on something over FC5: - cut the volume of water to be test by half with distilled water (dilute the test water) - retest if the test still read over 5, dilute by half again and...

Getting my pool right and moving to BBB...questions, of cour

As of last night, my CYA was about 75 :? . The good news is that my pool is too full right now anyway, so I'll be draining some. However, does draining alone recude CYA or will I need to drain to my ideal level, then drain s'more and add back new fill water to drop it? The question then of...

Getting my pool right and moving to BBB...questions, of cour

I'm in South Florida with no enclosure around the pool..it's like living ON the sun! So 70 might be a good target CYA then?

Getting my pool right and moving to BBB...questions, of cour

my wife took the water in this morning again for another test. Needless to say, she left the store with a good test kit. according to the store: FC=4 pH=7.4 TA=85 CH=175 CYA=70 :? I'll be testing it myself this evening when I get home and THEN I know I'll be on the right track. if the CYA IS...

Getting my pool right and moving to BBB...questions, of cour

I dissolved it in 1-2 lb increments in a large pail before pouring it into the skimmer and along the sides of the pool. I couldn't get it all to dissolve immediately, but it is now. I hope this doesn't mean my CYA is going to continue to climb since there is no way to get it out. I have to...

Getting my pool right and moving to BBB...questions, of cour

I took the water in this morning. The CYA was up to 50, which was my target with the amount of stabilizer I added. So that's a good start. I was a little puzzled though. My FC tested out to 3 this morning after adding NO chlorine from 0 last night (only added acid: pH down to 7.1 and...

Getting my pool right and moving to BBB...questions, of cour

Thanks Jason. I'm actually going to take the water in again the morning and hvae them rerun the tests now that I've added the stabilizer and acid. From that reading, I'll start adding bleach. Once I kill all of the algae, my FC will be up around 20 since thats what I'm targeting and it will...

First off...FABULOUS site! Great info and great moderators from the reading I've done. I've got a pool that algae growth is a constant issue. I'm in South FLorida, so needless to say, temps run in the upper 80's to upper 90's much of the year, and now...well, heck comes to mind. I know that...
