    Is this mustard algae?

Yeah, sorry, I wasn't very clear...this is what I have going on now, and when i wash out the filter, it's green - I defintely have a traditional bloom going right now, no question, have had lots of them, know what to do, etc. Likely unrelated to the gunk in the first 2 pics, though this stuff...

    Is this mustard algae?

So this is what I have collecting on the bottom right now. Previous couple days had been pretty cloudy and only low 80s so it wasn't as bad today as it had been a couple days ago.

    Is this mustard algae?

OK a couple things... 1) I'm not familiar with the vitamin C test, can you give me the cliffnotes/background? 2) Yeah what I'm seeing on the bottom isn't iron. Only question is if it's standard dead algae or dead mustard algae. I'll try to get a pic next time I have a bunch on the bottom...

    Is this mustard algae?

Interesting. The stuff I find on the mat that sits under the steps, some of that takes a brush to scrub off...but everything I see sitting on the bottom i more of a blotchy powder and is easily disturbed/dispersed.

    Is this mustard algae?

Thanks Texas. A couple interesting items and comment: There is definitely a better/worse/better cycle involved, definitely sun/temp related. Having the steps in/out certainly makes a difference, but that's not a surprise either. Stuff hides up there, pretty impossible to clean all those...

Floor Drains - how to close them to work on plumbing

Thanks, I'll definitely put on the kids' goggles and go diving with a screw driver tomorrow and see if I can get them off. I can't imagine replacing the valve with bread shoved down a slowly flowing pvc pipe knowing I can't get them totally sealed with stuff over top of the drains, so I'll come...

Floor Drains - how to close them to work on plumbing

interesting...what do the plugs look like? Never seen one, definitely didn't inherit any, wondering what I'm looking for. Thanks!

    Is this mustard algae?

If it's iron, IDK where it's coming from. City water, never use an iron based algaecide, only algaecide i ever use is some Poly60 at closing. We keep a mat under the steps when they are in. Under there, the liner looks new. The rest of it all has some equal yellowing, IDK if it's sun, algae...

Floor Drains - how to close them to work on plumbing

15x30 AGP, 2 floor drains that I don't normally use (unrelated topic). So I have the usual line that comes down from the skimmer basket, and the pipe that comes up from the ground for the floor drains. There is a Praher ball valve on each of those lines, then they come to a T joint, and that...

AGP Closers - Do YOU do these 2 things? Not sure of the need...

So I am closing my AGP for the 4th time. I've always drained it below the skimmer basket and return. And I've always had SOMETHING under the winter cover to create a hump (usually 2 semi-truck inner-tubes with a basketball taped into the middle of each to create a nice hump). For the record...

ONCT - with our without solar cover on???

We do have pool steps and some weights to hold them down, and a mat under them - I HAVE cleaned them, but they are tough to get all the area under the steps...may be time to pull them out.

ONCT - with our without solar cover on???

Came home from vacation July 30 to a nice outbreak of yellow/mustard algae - seems like the only kind I ever get. Did all the recommended mustard aglae attacks as far as Slamming, brushing, etc. No signs of algae for about week, water totally clear for 5 days, but I just can't seem to pass the...

Need help with this "sealant" and leak (pics)

Thanks...a couple follow-ups and clarifications... - I assume I can just pick up some basic plumber's putty from Lowe's? - Leave the white adapter in the filter housing and unscrew the black fitting from it? Or remove the white adapter from the filter housing, then remove the black fitting...

Need help with this "sealant" and leak (pics)

Inherited the pool 3 years ago with the house... Upon start up this year, noticed I have a small leak (maybe 6-10 drops per minute) from the sealant on my filter tank outlet. I have no idea what any of these parts are called, or what this stuff/substance/sealant is called, I know it feels like...

Motor died - questions before I buy a new one...

Wow, I have no idea how you found that site that has it for half the price (unless I'm not interpreting that correct), but thanks! EDIT: Hey, follow-up question - my current version lists "S.F. Amps 9.8/3.2" but this motor you linked lists "Full Load Amps: 8.8/2.6" - Any issues here?

Motor died - questions before I buy a new one...

First, let me thank everyone in advance - this community has been a great help in learning how to deal with a pool. Second, I have done my best to self-help in the forums for answers, so I apologize in advance if I ask something that I should have found elsewhere. Now, to get on with it...

I need help from Cartridge Filter users & knowledgables

Actually, I soaked in a bucket of Filter cleaner just last week. If you think that would be better, I can give it a try. I also saw a Muratic Acid soak recommendation somewhere in the filter portion of Pool School, so I picked up some more Muratic Acid today and planned to try that tomorrow...

I need help from Cartridge Filter users & knowledgables

In the same amount of time as the Sta-Rite, it gets noticeably/visually less dirty than the Sta-Rite, and shows no pressure increase over similar time spans as the Sta-Rite. In fact, I left in in for about two weeks recently and saw no discernible pressure increase.

I need help from Cartridge Filter users & knowledgables

My pool info is in my sig, but if you need more, don't hesitate to ask. I inherited the pool last summer and there is a lot I don't know, but I can try to dig up info that may be useful. I have 2 cartridges for my filter - both were inherited. I know that one is a Sta-Rite P/N 25230-0095 95...

Still green after shock, floc, and pool first-aid?

No offense (apparently I came too strong earlier, my apologies), but my pool is 12,500 gallons (so not far off of yours) and my CYA is 70 (much higher than yours), and it only takes me THREE gallons at 8.25% bleach to get to my shock level of 30. So you had to do something wrong somewhere...

Still green after shock, floc, and pool first-aid?

You seem to be just testing your water "whenever", with no set schedule. You need to be testing it HOURLY, and every time your FC drops below shock level, you need to use the poolcalculator to know how much chlorine is needed to bring it back up to shock level, then GO ADD THAT IMMEDEATELY! If...

    Looking for some help.

I'll cover specs, then background, then test results, then questions... Helping my brother get his pool open... - 16,000 gallon I-G (3 ft shallow - 5 ft deep end) - Sand Filter (forgot the brand, but I've seen the name here lots of times) - Vinyl liner - In-line chlorinator but currently has a...

Should my FC REALLY still be this high?

1 - LOVE the name! 2 - Yup, know all about the pool calculator 3 - Until I'm more experienced with owning a pool, I would rather not sink a bunch of money into a new system/equip until I'm sure it is the direction I want to go. I'm familiar with "The Liquidator", but it looks to be about $200...
