Ok, finally done another test last night. Checked it a 9pm last night and this morning at 8:30. Sun was already starting to shine on the pool, but it only dropped .5, so there isn't anything in the pool consuming the chlorine. So back to my original thought that the SWG isn't producing like it...

I'll put some bleach in this am and get it up to 5-6 and test again tonight. I think the swg just isn't producing like it used to and needs replaced and/or a 2nd system installed.

Probably just margin of error and/or checking last night in the dark with a flashlight vs this morning with some daylight. I know I didn't lose more than 1.0 fc, so I passed the test.

Yes. I flipped the breaker off to make sure it didn't come before I checked it.

Ok, so I did the oclt. Fc was 2.0 at 5pm, I checked it again at 9pm @1.0, and just now at 1.5, so I would say there isn't an algae problem. As for why am I not supplementing, I will, but I shouldn't have to. When the pool was new, a swg setting of 95% would put the fc at 8.5-9.0 @90 degrees. Now...

I tried 60, 70, & 80 years ago and it wasn't worth it. It did not ease the load on the SWG, so I found 50-60 was a good place.

Just wanted to add this: My pool builder told me to not bother with the floc, that the mud would go to the bottom if you turned the filter off. He was right. Make sure to not let water return to the pool until it's mostly clear. Hope this helps.

The sensor Hayward uses is black and is installed by drilling a hole in the pipe and then securing with a hose clamp. The sun heats up the black outer portion and makes the sensor read high. I just re-plumbed my pump pad and plan to locate the new sensor under the pipe so the sun won't affect it...

Mine is the same way. Early in the morning it reads dead perfect. If the afternoon is reads 5-10 high and the air temp reads 30-40 high. I just placed something over the sensor to block the sun.

Thanks for all the replies. I now have the sources for everything I need except unions. I found some Hayward unions on Amazon, but I'm not sure if they are the compact versions or not. Anyone have a good source or part # for compact unions? Lowe's only sells the huge unions and the I.D. looks...

Do they make long sweep sch 40 pressure fittings? i have read here about folks using them, but don't know where you get them. I am getting parts together to re-plumb my equipment and was going to check into this before I bought normal sharp 90° fittings. Thanks, David

Sounds like your FC is not high enough to be effective. Your CYA may be too high. Can you post full test results? How are you add chlorine to the pool? I haven't shocked my pool since last August. I read a post yesterday about some folks go years without shocking.

Could be a problem in the windings. Do you have a electric motor repair shop in your area? That is where you should take it. They will tell you in a few minutes what is wrong with it.

I am having to adjust, also. A month ago, I started at 5 hrs a day, 50% SWG, & 30 CYA. Temps ranged from 48 to 60 then. Then I went to 65%. Last Saturday I checked and I had FC of .5. I dumped a jug of bleach in and changed my pump time to 9 hrs a day and turned on the super chlorinate feature...

Yesterday afternoon it was 62. Last week it was 48. The next 3-4 days are supposed to be the last chance of frost for the season and then high 70's for a while. Maybe winter is finally gone! Looking forward to our first full season with our new pool. 8-)

If you don't mind, I would like to know more about your solar setup. We are thinking seriously about solar and want to make sure it really works well enough to make a difference, such as a 10-15 deg improvement. Thanks!

My new pool does the same thing! I called the pool builder and he(and the folks here) think the pipe is restricted. he is going to come out when the water is warmer and take the covers off and force water thru in reverse.

I just took apart the valve and it was clean. There must be a rock in the pipes, as the returns had rocks in them and would plug up the eyeballs. I'll have to wait until the pool warms up and then try reversing the flow with the drain screens off and see if I can blow it out. I was there when...

So, you are saying I shouldn't see a difference in flow. That's what I thought. I was going to re-plumb the pad simply because it looks bad and they put pipes where the wall goes for the shed.

I wouldn't. I had a new pool built last August and it was filled with water before it was backfilled. If you backfill before, you take a chance on it caving in if it rains. We had my pumps going and swimming in it, before it was backfilled. It sure makes it easy to check for leaks. 8-)

I have a new pool and want to buy a VS pump. I currently have a Hayward 2hp pump and it's very loud. I have read that the Pentair VS is a better pump and quieter. They make several versions. Which one should I get? I have the Aqua Plus control system already.
