    Efflorescent anyone???

My natural stone tiles under my pool coping have some pretty ugly looking efflorescent build up...just the powdery mess that disappears as soon as water hits it, but then comes right back as soon as it's dry. I've tried very diluted muriatic acid followed by quick scrub and fresh water rinse...

Been SLAM'ing for almost 2 weeks now????????

Thanks Dave! My OCLT this AM was 2ppm and the chloramine (CC's) was 1ppm....so definitely making progress. I just went and scrubbed all the water features...did find some green algae on top of some of our rocks (but well above the water level...more like where it had rained and rain water...

Been SLAM'ing for almost 2 weeks now????????

Thanks Jblizzle...it's actually not the chlorine level that scares us...but rather the getting in knowing we have chloramines...it's just yucky. He actually got in it right before I started slam'ing and as soon as I smelled his swim trunks (from the other room!!) I knew we had a problem!

Been SLAM'ing for almost 2 weeks now????????

Yeah...I was really close to starting to worry myself! 4 weeks? Yikes! My husband has been teasing me to override my BBB method with magic powders b/c he wants to use the spa! Guess I'll be holding him off still! LOL I've checked everything pretty well...the lights are going to be tricky...

    Cordless M5 Liberty

So you mean you are leaving the cordless M5 Liberty in the pool non stop? I would LOVE to do that...but the manual specifically says it should not be kept in the pool or extended periods of time. It also says it should not be kept in water temps below something in the 50 degree arena I...

    Spectralight UV Systems???

Has anyone out there had or used one of these systems? I have recently discovered that VOC's seem to be what has triggered an adult onset of severe, persistent and uncontrolled asthma. I'm attempting to reduce my exposure as much as possible, so in doing that I'm being forced to rethink our...

    Help w/ TA rising please!

Ahhhh....that might be the key. I've never taken it to it's end point....did not know to do that! I've always stopped as soon as it turned from purple to a shade of pink. If I do add another drop it becomes an even darker shade of pink and then no other change takes place...which would bring...

    Help w/ TA rising please!

FC = 6 CC = 0 pH = 7.5 TA = 50????? down from our normal of 60 CH = 490 Temp = 77 Any help is much appreciated here. We live in TX...just got our first consistent drop in temperature this past week. We had a TON of rain last week, which I know is the reason the TA has dropped from where we...

Could the l-ion battery inside the cleaner itself be starting to go bad ya think? Weird!

    Cordless M5 Liberty

Yes...I did mean the charger. I had to unscrew the A/C power cord completely off from the charging station. When I removed it, there was corrosion and rust both inside the a/c cord receptacle on the charging station and all over the end of the a/c cord that attaches there itself. When I...

    Cordless M5 Liberty

Also....next time you open the pod and reassemble...try plugging the battery power cord into the wall BEFORE attaching the power cord to the pod....make sure that the blue ON button is not lit and then attach the pod and hit the ON switch. This is what I sorta also discovered could be where the...

    Cordless M5 Liberty

Mine was repeatable too...that's when I discovered that there was corrosion on the power cord where it attaches to the battery. Did you remove the power cord yet? You have to unscrew it from the battery. The port on my battery was covered with rust and corrosion as well as that end of the...

    Cordless M5 Liberty

Hi there! Sorry you are having trouble. So yes...very early on when we were new to using the cleaner, I too had no connection alert twice....it was due to the plugs getting wet at some point. I think my husband accidentally dropped it in once without the cap on. :hammer: Anyway...the way I...

Calcium Scale on Natural Stone Tiles at Waterline

My husband went to town on trying to clean our natural stone pool tiles with diluted acid as discussed above and it's left almost all of the tiles around the pool dull. It looks worse now than before. :( I think that he may not have rinsed the tiles off well enough. :hammer: Any...

    Cordless M5 Liberty

Hi! Sorry so long since I've logged in here....hence the delay. So here's the 411 on my little robot: It really does a great job! The battery lasts for about 1.5 hours...which is plenty of time to clean my entire pool on the most complete setting. I usually get accumulated debris in both...

Do you absolutely HAVE to shock if FC drops to zero?

Thanks Jason! That's what I ended up doing...I would rather do it and get it over with than spend hours trying to kill algae! Have a great weekend.

Do you absolutely HAVE to shock if FC drops to zero?

FC = 0 CC = 0 TC = 0 pH = 7.8 TA = 60 CYA = 30 CH = 450 (I manage by trying to keep the CSI below 0) So, my husband and I differ sometimes on our pool philosophy. He believes it's a good idea to periodically shock regardless of testing results. I've always been of the idea that if you don't...

    pH base demand testing

Thanks Chem Geek....it's the darn meter! So it goes.....another $80 down the drain! LOL I did do your suggested tests however, and the meter was still way off...even worse than before, so I circle filed it! ;-)

    pH base demand testing

FC = 5.5 CC = 0 TC = 5.5 pH = ?????? TA = 60 CH = 430 CYA = 50 Bor = 50 Here's my dilemma....STILL....I have one of those digital pH meters and when I use it in the pool I get a reading of 7.4....I calibrate before each reading to a 7.0 calibrating solution, test the pool, then go back and test...

Adding borax 3 weeks ago....now itching skin??

I used 20 Mule Borax and I purchased it from my grocery store, Qwaxalot was correct about the phenol red being bad....pH was very likely below 7, I've been aerating and will get hubby to get in the spa today to see if its better now that we r back up to around 7.4ish. Thank you all for comments...

FC 5.5 CC 0 TC 5.5 pH 7.3ish TA 60 CH 430 CYA 60 Borate 50 We haven't been in the pool since before I added the borax on Sept 6 and yesterday my husband decided to get in for the first time. pH base demand testing

Can anyone advise me on how many units of change is represented by 1 drop of pH base reagent? I'm using it to get a better pH calculation and it took me 4 drops to get down to around 7.0 where the color matched....adding back does this give me 7.4 or 7.6 or 7.8? :? Many thanks!

    Getting ready to add borates.....

No...it was mid day and then morning...all is fine now. The borate level was PERFECT after following the procedures listed here and the chlorine thing was not accurate due to the timing of my test. Thanks for all who replied and soooo sorry for the delay. I've been unplugged for the last...

Calcium Scale on Natural Stone Tiles at Waterline

Is it safe to use a diluted mixture of say 2:1 or 1:1 solution of muriatic acid and pool water to spray onto those natural stone tiles and then use a scrubby pad or wire brush to remove it? (Safe meaning that it won't harm my stone) I've got the pool chemistry stabilized now so that we will...

    Getting ready to add borates.....

Then ANY idea why or how I would have lost so much chlorine overnight? I only loose about 1ppm daily......maybe 2 if we have swimmers....but I dropped 5ppm overnight....makes no sense to me. Urgh!
