    When your sporadic light does work are you happy with the light level in the pool? If you're happy the 36 watt one will give you about the same level. If you don't think its bright enough go with the 40 or 50 watt replacement.

    Ok to plug passive pipe running from pool to spa?

    You can get a couple of these plugs: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-Gripper-2-in-Plastic-Mechanical-Test-Plug-33401D/100346775 Put them in on each side and don't run your pump and see if the water level goes down at the same rate and that way you'll know if it's that pipe or somewhere else...
