Equating 6% bleach with 48% Hypo Clor

Yes, my bad on the product description. You have a point about the CH. It's an above ground that is partially buried so I drain it about halfway each Winter. Once I got the water dialed in well I've been amazed at how little I have to monkey with it. Maybe it's better not to change something...

Equating 6% bleach with 48% Hypo Clor

My chemistry looks really good this Spring, but I do have a question about alternate forms of Chlorine. What's the math for equivalence between 6% bleach and 48% Hypo Clor? If we have our math right it actually looks pretty competitive. That surprises me as I've used BBB exclusively for...

    Bearing replacement in pump motor

Thanks. I wasn't sure what that is and it's hard to get a good enough view. Hopefully after a night soaking in penetrant the bearing will come off the shaft and I can get a better look. As an alternative I might carefully apply a little heat round the outside of the bearing. Carefully...

    Bearing replacement in pump motor

I know not everyone is of a mind to rebuild a pump motor, but I can do the work and the bearings were $17 at the local bearing house. That makes it pretty affordable in my book. It's a Sta-Rite above ground filter with AO Smith #48 frame, 1hp motor. I do have a question, however. I've put a...

    Sta-Rite impeller seal replacement

Thanks. It's exactly that way. Unfortunately the impeller was stuck to the shaft so tight I had to break it apart and pull out the pieces, but a new impeller and seal are still abut 1/4 the price of an entire pump.

    Inlet "Eyeball" position?

I hope this isn't hijacking, but I have one return. Which way should it point?

    Sta-Rite impeller seal replacement

I have a Sta-Rite JWPA5EL-2A pump with AO Smith motor and a leaky impeller seal. I've obtained the new seal but can't figure out how to get the impeller off the motor shaft to get at the seal. The store where we bought it "thinks" it's left-hand threaded onto the motor shaft, but can't get it...

If I could take THAT heat and put it in THERE...

I have a 9500gal above ground pool with one 2'x20' solar panel. Unfortunately both the pool and the heater get more shade than ideal, but that's what my site gives me. A couple of nights ago I was doing my evening pool test/treat routine when the air conditioner kicked on, and with it my...

    Pump rebuildable?

I have a Sta-Rite 1hp pump, model JWPA5EL-2A that is leaking at the shaft seal. Any idea if this pump can have the seals and bearings replaced?

    Can I empty my AGP?

Thanks for all of your advice, now I'd like to let you know how it turned out. Leaving the vac running in the pool unattended was excellent advice. Doing that really helped pull the small particulates off the bottom. After talking it through with my son (a Chemical Engineering student) I also...

    Can I empty my AGP?

Thanks for your replies. I also called the pool dealer, he said I could expect the liner to tear away at the top edge of the wall if we take that tack. Yes, we have a graduation party on Memorial Day weekend. My wife is also alarmed by the large amount of bleach it takes to make progress...

    Can I empty my AGP?

I have a 12'x24' Doughboy pool with expandable liner, 9500 gallons total. I also have a winterizing problem that becomes a Spring opening problem. In this area we have long, cold, wet Falls in which the leaves fall over an extended period but the water doesn't freeze until late, and very...

DoughBoy Pools - Can they really go in the ground?

We've had a Doughboy for 6 years. It's buried 2' at deepest, tapering to all above ground at the diagonally opposite part of the oval pool. It works fine that way. Only two things; Doughboy says to not empty the water below ground level during the winter to avoid frost heaving, and when the...
