Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

I’ve had it for 3 seasons now, and still shooting sand into the pool, about a handful every week or so. I’ll look at the auto vacuum though, could be a good addition!

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

That would be a good idea if doing it from scratch, but not worth it now, until mine fail. Is that the cartridge pump or the sand? I’m second guessing getting the sand filter, all I do is vacuum sand out of the pool. Guess you get what you pay for...

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

Ah, I see. The problem wasn’t with the valve itself though, but rather my inexperienced job of using pipe sealant with PVC. It was the threads that were leaking.

Hmm, ok, I still don’t follow why you’re talking about replacing ball valves, and where unions come into play?

Custom PVC Pipe Adapter for Intex Pools

I can confirm that all three of these seals I made in fact are leak free!

The good news, is that the handmade gaskets on the pool fittings worked perfectly, without any leaks!

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

Finally got it done. Learned a lot of lessons in the process, the first being that flexible PVC isn't very...flexible. Also, if at all possible, try and find slip joint ball valves. I will have to redo all my threaded connections because each one is dripping ever so slightly. Decided it's...

Custom PVC Pipe Adapter for Intex Pools

Updated the previous post. I'm hoping this provides a leak free seal, but I haven't tested it yet.

Custom PVC Pipe Adapter for Intex Pools

This is what is inside the adapter: There is a natural looking ring (possibly from the mold used to make this part) that runs along the inside edge of the large end, which I used as a guide to cut out a gasket. The finished gasket. Installed against the box adapter. Fully assembled to...

Custom PVC Pipe Adapter for Intex Pools

Cut the holes in my smaller Intex pool, so now working on the soft/hard plumbing. This little adapter comes with the pools, so I just happened to have 3 of these laying around. The only seal that isn't already on something (pump/SWCG) etc, is the one between the pool fittings and the hose...

Custom PVC Pipe Adapter for Intex Pools

This is a 1.5" box adapter found in the electrical department at Lowe's, Home Depot in my area does not stock 1.5" box adapters anymore. I think the Cantex versions are a little higher quality, but only found one on the shelf, apparently they are only going to stock Carlon from now on. I think...

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

Decided to go ahead and replace all the 1-1/4" fittings on the pool. Ordered all my parts from Intex (minus one strainer nut, because of Intex's dumb quantity limiting, so eBay got my money instead). Had to piece together pump hoses, and adapters to get all my hose nuts for the same reasons...

Create intex adapters. Step by step. Lots of embedded photos

Awesome post, thanks for doing this. 1. Are those larger than 1.5" ball valves? Assuming you did this to get the flow more comparable to 1.5" plumbing when it goes through the ball valve? 2. Any idea where to get those L-shaped o-rings? Intex doesn't have them in stock, and this happens to...

Custom PVC Pipe Adapter for Intex Pools

So this mimics a 1.5" hose, correct? But you mention putting a 1.25" PVC inside...is there a way to keep it at 1.5" PVC after the adapter?

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

Another option would be to use the 1-1/4" hoses on the strainers, but find a way to connect them to a T that had a single 1-1/2" exit, and just go bigger from there. Saves me from cutting two holes in the liner.

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

Well, unfortunately, this pool uses all 1-1/4" hoses and fittings, even the T is 1-1/4" all the way around. Bummer. The new 2800 gph sand filter pump will be here Monday, and it appears that I have misplaced, or got rid of all my 1-1/2" hoses, plunger valves, and pool fittings...I can't...

    AGP Timer

I've had this one for 3 years now and been really happy with it. When the pool is not up, we use it inside the house for other things like humidifiers. I like the fact that it still has a big on/off button that can be used manually, like when needing to use the vac. Aube by Honeywell TI062/U...

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

Ah, I missed your reply initially. Sounds more like our smaller 12' pools may not have the larger hose coming out of the T. Guess I'll have to wait and see if I'll have to make modifications or not.

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

Ah, excellent, did not know they went to the bigger pipe after the T adapter! I'm going to get the 2800gph sand filter to go with this pool, and thought I'd have to cut the liner again. So, I'm assuming that the output pipe is also 1.5" as well? That will make my job easier. I already have...

Convert Intex 12 FT x 30 IN Metal Frame 1-1/4 IN Plumbing to 1-1/2 IN Plumbing

Alright everyone. The last 3 years we had a 12x30 EasySet pool with the combo pump and SWCG (1-1/2" plumbing). This was accomplished with cutting the holes in the side of the EasySet pool bigger to allow for the larger connections. Worked great, no leaks or anything. I want to do the same...

    Running filter on a timer?

My electrolytic cell started leaking at one of the pins where the plug connects. Called customer service, and they are sending a replacement cell. Granted, I still have my GFCI plug, but chances are, you'll never have to ship Intex the unit for inspection. I just think that the cell on this...

New AGP Setup, but Water Appears to be Unbalanced After Test

Re: New AGP Setup, but Water Appears to be Unbalanced After Coworker has used shock 2-3 times, and originally was using chlorine of some sort. About two weeks ago, he installed a SWCG, but has shocked a couple of times since then...maybe that's it? I have never shocked. So 90 isn't too bad...

New AGP Setup, but Water Appears to be Unbalanced After Test

Re: New AGP Setup, but Water Appears to be Unbalanced After So, I'm puzzled. FC: 5.5 CC: 0.0 pH: 7.8 TA: 120 CH: 160 CYA: 90 Seems like those are decent numbers, but I'm adding about 4oz of Muriatic (31%) about once a week to keep the pH down. Is it normal for it to keep climbing like that...
