Just starting up my pool. The suction is eratic on my Intex Sand Filter/Pump. Its as if the suction can't keep up with the discharge and the clear lid on the pre-filter is popping up and down (is it made to do that?). I've disconntected the suction to make sure it was clear and also backwashed...

Latest results: CYA--30 TC--19 PH--6.8 Chlorine already way above shock level (12). Pool is still a bit hazy. Stirred it up and will continue filtering 24/7. Not sure whether to fool with the PH (raise it or just leave it for now). What do you think?

Checked the PH before going to bed--7.2 TC--22 Pool water still a bit hazy...can barely make out bottom step; however, more filtering should handle that (however long that will take) As soon as I get my new CYA agents in, I will retest and see what my reading is (should be interesting)

Update--drained the pool halfway and refilled. I have no idea what my CYA is since I ran out and am waiting on my reorder (expect today). Finished this before going to bed & left the filter on. Got up yesterday, pool still green. Checked the PH again and it was 8.2!!! Poured in correct amt...

Draining now...completely ran out of the Agent to measure the CYA. I reordered yesterday and its on its way. I've really learned a valuable lesson concerning the CYA--not to expect immediate results and that it could take up to a week to get a "true" number. I don't know why my results were...

OK, got hubby to do a few of the tests while I'm at work: TC - 22 PH - 7.5 CYA - 40 From reading the previous post, it looks like I won't get a true reading of my CYA (after adding stabalizer Sunday) for about a week. My guess is that it's really a lot higher than it is reflecting in the tests...

reminder--regarding my filter, I have the ULTRA sand (which calls for half amt as reg. sand).... Again, could this be part of the problem? As my previous post, it only fills half of the filter tank....

Previously I had used Leslies pouches of "shock" for vinyl pools. For the past 10 days, I've only been using bleach & muratic acid for PH.... Going out in a few minutes to recheck my FC ... added 62 oz bleach this a.m.

OK--I've come to a decision--I'm gonna either add an additional box (25#) of ULTRA sand or dump it all out and put 50# of pool sand--whichever I find (the filter calls for 50#). At least then, I will know without a doubt its the filter.... I'm really getting frustrated!!!!!

OK just ran another set of tests..they are: FC 13 CC 0 TC 13 TA 160 CYA 50 PH 7.5 Pool still cloudy--I can see the bottom. Again, the new filter/pump has been running 24/7 for a week now.... According to my numbers, looks like I will need to add more bleach to shock level and check the FC...

Also, should I consider adding additional ULTRA sand or just dump it out and replace with pool sand.... or just wait...
