Pool is green/yellow and silty but chemistry is great, time for new sand?

Just a couple of days ago, I added CYA as mine was 0. Pour the recommended amount in a sock, and tie it with a string to where it is directly in front of the pool outlet. The flow of the water, will help dissolve it. Also, everytime I could, I would squeeze the sock. Within 1.5 days, it was...

    Intex Sand Filter Pump problem

Ouch...apparently no one has any advise on this one... Guess I'll just continue to run the pump/filter with the discharge partially closed until I can get hold of someone at Intex Tuesday...

    Intex Sand Filter Pump problem

I ran water backwards thru the impeller; felt inside for any debris--nothing. This is the first time we have turned this pump on. Right now, I have closed the discharge valve halfway (or more) in order to have regular/even suction.... I have checked all lines; taken everything apart.... don't...

    Intex Sand Filter Pump problem

Just starting up my pool. The suction is eratic on my Intex Sand Filter/Pump. Its as if the suction can't keep up with the discharge and the clear lid on the pre-filter is popping up and down (is it made to do that?). I've disconntected the suction to make sure it was clear and also backwashed...

    Got complacent--now paying the price

Latest results: CYA--30 TC--19 PH--6.8 Chlorine already way above shock level (12). Pool is still a bit hazy. Stirred it up and will continue filtering 24/7. Not sure whether to fool with the PH (raise it or just leave it for now). What do you think?

    Got complacent--now paying the price

Checked the PH before going to bed--7.2 TC--22 Pool water still a bit hazy...can barely make out bottom step; however, more filtering should handle that (however long that will take) As soon as I get my new CYA agents in, I will retest and see what my reading is (should be interesting)

    Got complacent--now paying the price

Update--drained the pool halfway and refilled. I have no idea what my CYA is since I ran out and am waiting on my reorder (expect today). Finished this before going to bed & left the filter on. Got up yesterday, pool still green. Checked the PH again and it was 8.2!!! Poured in correct amt...

    Got complacent--now paying the price

Draining now...completely ran out of the Agent to measure the CYA. I reordered yesterday and its on its way. I've really learned a valuable lesson concerning the CYA--not to expect immediate results and that it could take up to a week to get a "true" number. I don't know why my results were...

    Got complacent--now paying the price

OK, got hubby to do a few of the tests while I'm at work: TC - 22 PH - 7.5 CYA - 40 From reading the previous post, it looks like I won't get a true reading of my CYA (after adding stabalizer Sunday) for about a week. My guess is that it's really a lot higher than it is reflecting in the tests...

    Got complacent--now paying the price

Checked the pool before heading out the door to go to work hoping I would see a different color of green--no luck--same dark green color...I'm not making any headway and my shock level is still above what it should be... Since I wanted a clear pool for the holiday weekend, I'm thinking I should...

    Got complacent--now paying the price

You got it Jason!! I'm just not clear now about what to do next...I have "stirred" up the pool and it's really green. My thought is that I need more bleach in order to kill the algae. I'm waiting on "white" water... Am I wrong???

    Got complacent--now paying the price

Just rechecked--made sure I was using the correct Agents, etc... Was closer to 30. Rechecked again just to make sure. Just to clarify...yesterday my CYA was almost nil,so per the Calculator, I added 20 oz of stabalizer in a sock (2 separate batches). So maybe when I checked it last eve, it...

    Got complacent--now paying the price

Had a sparking pool for quite a while and got lazy about testing...now I have a green pool :( Started the process yesterday. Came home today and pool is still green..my numbers: TC - 25 PH - 7.5 CYA - 25 (was 70 yesterday) TA - 130 Yesterday,I treated the pool based on my CYA as 70 (my...

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

Thanks Donnie for letting me know you were in the same situation. This evening I got rid of my ULTRA sand and replaced with old-fashioned pool sand. So now if the pool doesn't clear up, I'll know at least its not that... Continuing to keep at shock level and running 24/7. Let's see how it...

Dave, not sure what you're asking--I have been using this one only since 7/13. I have not posted anything in any other category during this time frame...

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

reminder--regarding my filter, I have the ULTRA sand (which calls for half amt as reg. sand).... Again, could this be part of the problem? As my previous post, it only fills half of the filter tank....

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

OK--talked to hubby about the level of sand in the filter. It only fills up half of the filter. I rechecked by FC this a.m. and it is down to 17 from 20 last night.

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

I haven't used store bought "shock" for a couple of weeks now... I had performed the overnight OCLT test last Wed orThurs and only lost .5 so I assumed all the algae was "dead". I test every morning and every eve when I come home from work and add whatever bleach I need to be at 20... The CH...

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

Thanks Chuck!! your info helps me feel better... I always use the Pool Calculator to try to keep my level at 20. So I was really surprised this morning when it was so low... I added another 62 oz to get it back to 20. I rechecked by FC level a couple of hours ago and it is still 20...

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

Previously I had used Leslies pouches of "shock" for vinyl pools. For the past 10 days, I've only been using bleach & muratic acid for PH.... Going out in a few minutes to recheck my FC ... added 62 oz bleach this a.m.

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

OK--I've come to a decision--I'm gonna either add an additional box (25#) of ULTRA sand or dump it all out and put 50# of pool sand--whichever I find (the filter calls for 50#). At least then, I will know without a doubt its the filter.... I'm really getting frustrated!!!!!

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

OK just ran another set of tests..they are: FC 13 CC 0 TC 13 TA 160 CYA 50 PH 7.5 Pool still cloudy--I can see the bottom. Again, the new filter/pump has been running 24/7 for a week now.... According to my numbers, looks like I will need to add more bleach to shock level and check the FC...

CYA is 50 (up from 45) CH--don't test anymore. Last was 30. I was under the impression that since it is a vinyl pool, this isn't relevant...

My can of POP is about empty (or rain, rain, go away!!)

It has been raining for over 5 days. I'm still trying to get my pool looking good--still struggling with cloudy water (no green). A couple of days ago I did the overnight test and according to this site--everything's "dead". I have been continuing to keep my "bleach" in the Shock level...
