    Closing an in ground pool

    my pool has 3 LED lights in the side wall about 6" below the return ports. Do we have to drain the water level below these when closing for the winter?

    Also... should the cover remain off during this entire process?? We usually put it on every night to maintain the water temp. But I might think this could also not allow the FC to disapate.

    I was thinking I might need to go there and shock it good, but the low PH had me a bit baffled too. Pool is only a year old so the filter in in real good shape. Is it safe to swim while the SLAM process is being carried out, or should we wait till the FC is down to a certain level??

    high clorine level

    Sorry guys, as soon as I sent the post I knew I should have included more info. We do test using a T-100 kit. A couple days ago the numbers were: FC - 13 CC - 0 CYA - 65 Thanks again for any input. This is our first season with the pool so we are definitely newbies at this.

    after having the pool covered for a couple of days the Chlorine Drop test was off the chart (dark yellow). We have had the SWG off for several days but the Chlorine is still off the chart. The water looks great but should we be concerned? Should we do something to lower the level?

    Thanks. Heading to the Pool Calc to get the quantities. I have yet to add any CYA. Should I bump this up too? Also, Dave mentioned possibly shocking the pool since its new. Any thoughts on this and if so, how should it be done?
