how long should you maintain a high shock level on a pool after signs of an algae outbreak?

i can try that, buy i don't think it will be very accurate with a test strip i'll look into getting a drop test.

what would cause it to consume so much FC? Is it because there is a biological outbreak starting?

the cya was added via using Dichlor and Trichlor tabs for the first weeks, now I am switching to Bleach. Also i tested the water this morning before sunlight, and it reads about 4 ppm of FC.

ok so basically the pH has nothing to do with lowering the TA other than the fact you can't get the pH below 7 without causing problems. Adding acid is what lowers TA.

yea even after testing and adding a quart of the safe MA it didn't have much if any real effect. I'm going to have to find some 31% i guess the stores were all sold out last time i checked lol.
