    Stuck on filter decision

I had a DE filter for a number of years and it is labor intensive and time consuming to clean compared to the cartridge filter I replaced it with 3 years ago. I wish I went straight to a cartridge filter when I had my pool built. I can not tell a difference in the cleanliness of the pool and it...

    PH creeping up consitently

It doesn't sound like you have a lot aeration, so my best guess would be the Cal Hypo. I am pretty sure that has a very high PH level.

    swg circuit boards

Great timing. I just had the same issue and the fix worked for me too. Much better to spend less than $20 (including a soldering iron) to fix a $200 board. Once again this web site is a great resource for pool owners. Thanks again.

I agree with Woodyp. PH over 8.0 is very high and needs to be addressed.

Do you have a Leslie's Pool Supply store by you? The one by me has a tester for Aquarite SWG cells.

    1st Closing New Pool

We live in an area (not far from you) that has very hard water, so high PH over the winter months can be a real issue. After opening our pool to a very bad scale problem one year, I started to regularly add a scale inhibitor product, like Scaletec. Ever since then we haven't had any scale when...

Need help blowing out return lines and main drain

Your plan sounds fine. The anti freeze can only help. You do want to make sure you blow the line out again since you have to open it to add the anti freeze. Good luck.

Need help blowing out return lines and main drain

I would follow Dave J's advice to determine what each valve controls. I would also recommend using a Sharpie or a label maker to identify the use of each valve. I don't know about you, but I would never remember what they were for when I had to close the pool again.

Need help blowing out return lines and main drain

I take the pump lid off, take the basket out and put the blow through plug in the in-take pipe that goes into the pump. You should have valves that control water coming into the pump from your skimmers and main drain. You can usually blow the skimmers out with a shop vac. Once that is done, turn...

Need help blowing out return lines and main drain

My shop vac is not powerful enough to blow air out of the main floor drain for winterizing either. I use a winterizer plug that has an air valve. You use an air compressor to add air and the air pressure clears the drain. It doesn't take much. You just need to move the main drain valve to the...

To SWG or to not SWG

I have had a SWG for three years and wouldn't go back to using pucks. I find it a lot easier to maintain a consistent chlorine level with a SWG and you don't have to worry about over stabilizing the pool as you do with pucks. The downside is that you need to watch your PH, because the SWG tends...

How often do you change the seal in your pool light?

The new light I ordered is LED, so it will likely need a seal change before the light ever burns out. Given the first seal failed in 8 years, I'll probably have to consider changing it every 5 - 6 years to be safe (and not spend another $500 changing the whole light fixture).

How often do you change the seal in your pool light?

It looks like the seal failed in our Pentair underwater pool light and it needs to be replaced. We have had the pool 8 years and I never thought to replace the seal. Is there a recommended time frame to replace the seal in an underwater pool light? I'd rather pay $15 for a new seal, than $500...

solar cover and reel, vs heating the pool with heater

I would recommend the solar cover. It's not as fast heating the pool as a heater, but it really helps to hold the heat in at night. Without a solar cover your pool would easily loose a few degrees at night. Over the course of the swimming season, you will use your heater a lot less with a cover...

    Aqua rite display salt reading

I had something similar happen to me and I had to call Aquarite to get it straightened out. When I started the pool up last year, I was getting really high salt readings and as a result the system would not generate chlorine. After calling Aquarite, they walked me through the control panel...

Welcome to TFP and best of luck with your new pool. I'm sure you will get a lot of use out of it once it is complete. By the way, I'm pretty close to you in Gilbertsville.

Aquarite Not generating - lights not on

I don't know where you are at, but some things to consider beyond the board would be water temp and water flow. If the water is too cold I am pretty sure the SWG will not produce chlorine. The other thing I would look at is the unit recognizing when the pump is on? If there is no water flow...

    Freezing Temps & Pool Heater

Do you have a drain plug at the bottom of your heater? If so, remove the plug to make sure the heater is drained of water. Your heater will be fine if the water is removed.

Any recommendations on a solid cover for 20x42 gunite IGP?

Re: Any recommendations on a solid cover for 20x42 gunite IG My cover is 7 yrs old, we got it when we purchased the pool. The cover was custom made due to our free form pool design. I like having the hard cover because no light gets in and the pool is crystal clear when we open it in the...

Leslie's Pool Supply. Price gouging if you ask me.

Mesamav - You're right the markups are ridiculous. They have a right to charge what they want and we have a right to voice our annoyance and take our business elsewhere. A complaint about a price doesn't mean your asking for or want government intervention. This forum is a great resource for...

    How to clean solar cover?

There is no easy way to get the solar cover off the pool without dumping some of the dirt in. As far as cleaning the cover, do you have a fence around your pool? We drape our solor cover over the fence and hose it down and scrub it there.

Leslie's Pool Supply. Price gouging if you ask me.

I was checking prices of Hayward Cartridge filters and ran into the same thing at Leslie's. Their price for the filter ws $649. I found the same filter on-line for $329. I wrote to Leslie's (twice) to see if they would match the prices because I would use them for the install. I never heard back...

How often do you clean behind pool light?

It has been pretty hot here in PA and the water temp has been close to 90. I noticed some algae starting to form around the top of my pool light, so I pulled it out to clean around the light. This is the first time in 7 years I removed the light, so it was due for a cleaning. Has anyone else...
