    After 15+ years, I finally bought a pool cleaner - Dolphin E20

Yes, to your questions! It's beyond frustrating at times. That's what I'm looking forward to, the push of a button and two hours later, done!

Awesome! Do you leave your robot in the pool year-round? I'd probably run mine sometime in the early or mid morning.

    After 15+ years, I finally bought a pool cleaner - Dolphin E20

That's great to know! Is it in there year-round? I'd love to leave it in the pool and just let it work on a schedule.

    After 15+ years, I finally bought a pool cleaner - Dolphin E20

I'll have to see how I feel after using it on whether I'll leave it in or not. A couple of posters below don't seem to have any real issues with it. As for a name, I'll pick one out when I find out if a boy or a girl arrives! :giggle:

    After 15+ years, I finally bought a pool cleaner - Dolphin E20

I bought a Dolphin E20 from Marina PSP! I can't wait to get it, try it out and see if my pool maintenance life becomes easier. I've been a pool owner since 2005. I've always manually vacuumed our pool out. It wasn't the worst task in the world but there would be plenty of times where I really...

small drip out the backwash pipe

I'm dealing with the same thing with my 9+ year old Hayward sand filter. I've decided to replace the upper handle assembly which has the spider gasket already glued on, rather than trying to tackle the spider gasket by itself or the whole MPV.

Recommendations for Quiet 1-speed HP Pump

What type of a budget are you looking at? Pumps aren't super cheap and if you want a super quiet pump, a single-speed might not be the best choice. At least consider a 2-speed pump where you can drop the RPM's down to around 1700.

Pressure increases drastically after two hours.

I just wanted to post a follow up. After a thorough backwash that my pressure has completely stabilized.

Pressure increases drastically after two hours.

Things are slowly getting better. After 5 hours, the PSI slowly increased to about 12 psi, with 8.5 psi being the baseline. I backwashed it for about 2 minutes and the water in the sight glass was nowhere near as dirty as it was when I backwashed earlier today. I started the filter back up and...

Pressure increases drastically after two hours.

I have chlorine in the pool. There is just a lot of sediment that was in the bottom of the pool and the water went from clear to completely nasty and super cloudy after pressure washing the pool fence. The water is still super filthy but should clear up in a day or two. I went ahead and...

Pressure increases drastically after two hours.

This is my second pool season with a sand filter, so I'm still very green with the backwashing. I've never actually timed my backwash, so maybe I'm not backwashing long enough. I'll usually backwash until the the water in the sight glass is much clearer but not super clean. Then I run the rinse...

Pressure increases drastically after two hours.

Jason, thanks for your reply! The water is dirty but not from algae. Over last weekend and today, I pressured washed the pool fence and it threw a lot of dirt into the pool. Today was especially bad! Also, the starting PSI is now 12 and jumps to 20-25 psi in about 30 minutes. It sounds like...

Pressure increases drastically after two hours.

My pump/filter pressure is jumping from 8-10 psi when I start up the pump/filter to 20-25 psi in about two to three hours. If I turn off the pump and turn it back on, the pressure drops back down to 8-10 psi. I thought maybe it needed to be backwashed but I did this just a few hours ago and it's...

    Water inside of pressure gauge

Thanks for the advice! I'll take care of it. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a bigger problem or something weird going on.

    Water inside of pressure gauge

Yes, it is still working properly. It is a little hard to read because there is not only a small pool of water at the bottom of the gauge but that there is a lot condensation on the rest of the glass that makes it hard to read, especially at night.

    Water inside of pressure gauge

I noticed last week that the pressure gauge on my sand filter has water and condensation in it. This is the first time that it has happened since I installed the sand filter back in December. If I remember correctly it happened shortly after a backwash/rinse cycle. I left it alone for a week to...

Re: Did I just damage my new sand filter? (hooked up backwar Just a follow up, that everything seems to be OK now and working as it should. 8-)

Did I just damage my new sand filter? (hooked up backwards)

Re: Did I just damage my new sand filter? (hooked up backwar Thanks JohnT!!! I'm glad my boneheaded mistake probably won't be a costly one. :hammer: I've just finished the replumbing and I'm letting the PVC cement finish curing.

Did I just damage my new sand filter? (hooked up backwards)

Oh my, I'm feeling a lot of anxiety right now. So please forgive me if what I'm typing is hard to follow. I just finished hooking up my new Hayward sand filter. I'm usually very meticulous about things like this but somehow I hooked up the plumbing backwards. I ended up running the filter for...

What size sand filter do I need for my pool?

Thanks for the follow up replies! I was able to get the S244T through an Amazon open box special for $253 shipped about two weeks ago. The freight company is supposed to deliver it tomorrow morning. I'll assess what plumbing components and I'll definitely use unions.

Thanks Bama Rambler! The 18" is out for sure. I'm probably going to try and get the 24".

What size sand filter do I need for my pool?

While the pool is down for the winter, I've decided to move away from my current cartridge filter for various reasons. I think I've decided I want to use a sand filter with a little DE added to it. The problem is that I've read conflicting information on the size of sand filter that is needed...

What is a safe amount of chlorine to swim in after shocking?

I just wanted to say that I got our pool back to normal and everyone is happy again!

What is a safe amount of chlorine to swim in after shocking?

Thanks for the post! The chlorine is normally at 3-5PPM (3 before I put chlorine in, 5 after) but about two weeks ago I was out of town for a few days and someone was suppose to add chlorine but didn't. When I returned I had 0 chlorine. I didn't shock then and the algae slowly creeped up on me...

What is a safe amount of chlorine to swim in after shocking?

Thanks for the information! My pool has been in the shock process for three days and I'm slowly beating the algae but the kids are starting to get anxious. Oh well, everything should be good in a couple of more days.
  26. S

What is a safe amount of chlorine to swim in after shocking?

I'm running about 40PPM for my CYA. Which is a minimum of 3 PPM, target of 5 PPM and a shock value of 16 PPM. After shocking it, does it need to get back down to 5 PPM before letting the kids back in? Or can it be higher?
  27. S

What is a safe amount of chlorine to swim in after shocking?

I'm getting ready to shock my pool due to lingering small algae clusters I keep getting every other day. I have several small children that swim in our pool and I wanted to know what is the highest amount of chlorine (in PPM) that is safe for kids to swim in? Thanks!

Pump recommendations? (In Ground vs Above Ground models)

Thanks for the replies so far. It appears everyone is going against the web site's recommendation for using an AG pump for a small IG pool. I'll probably get this Pentair IG pump in either 3/4 or 1 HP: http://www.poolcenter.com/pumps_pentair_superflo.htm

Pump recommendations? (In Ground vs Above Ground models)

Hi Bruce, Thanks for your response. I was either going to get a Pentair or Hayward pump whether it be an IG or AG model. The "Power Flo" and "Maxim" are Hayward models and the "Dynamo" is a Pentair model albeit all three of them are AG models.
