    Natural Pools?

Here's an interesting article on natural pools. Has anyone ever done or seen something like this? http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-09-11/natural-swimming-pools/57750782/1?csp=hf

Pool calculator and Google Chrome (Update- problem fixed)

Re: Pool calculator and Google Chrome I cant really read the pictures you posted, they are too blurry when I zoom in on them so I'm not sure what is different. I also use Chrome, but I tried IE to see if I saw any differences. Both browsers are the same for me. You might try clearing out your...

    No plumbing inspection?

My area does require a plumbing inspection and what my PB did was run all of the lines into a manifold and then into one upright which had a gauge and valve with a pressure nipple. They pumped it up to 10 psi and then let it sit for about a week to see if it had any slow leaks. It had to be left...

    Keeping leaves out of skimmer

This topic is confusing me, isn't this valve configuration the normal for a pool? I don't understand why both the skimmer and floor drains wouldn't be open all of the time.

    OCLT Procedure ?'s

This is good stuff. This will come in handy for being able to roughly figure demand and make proactive adjustments before a party. Thanks

Ph keeps rising daily. using the BBB method

Aerating your water can slowly raise your PH. Do you have a spa, waterfall, or fountain?

    Underway in NM

Hello fellow Albuquerquen! Nice pool, who is your builder? You mentioned Labs? I hope you don't mind them being in your pool, I cant keep mine out. :-D

Probably screwed this up already :(

Like linen said, without a good test kit and reliable numbers its going to be just about impossible to know how to help you. How have you come up with how much liquid bleach or powder to add each day? Is it based on something?

    Bleach Expiration Date?

Just as a followup... Using choitink's explanation of how to read the code, I found that the bleach I used was bottled on the 68th day of 2011, so it was well over a year old and explains why it didn't raise my FC to the level it was supposed to. It's a valuable lesson learned. Like the saying...

    Got complacent--now paying the price

I think I would leave the PH alone for now. With your chlorine that high your not going to have a good number to base any corrections on anyway. From what I can tell in your posts it seems like your measurements have been all over the place. I would make sure you pass your overnight chlorine...

    What is "normal"?

Normal is relative, meaning that you are going to get many different answers based on many a different variables. I can tell you that for me, I add a little over a quart per day of bleach (34 to 36 oz) This varies with bather load, sun, wind, etc. It also has a lot to do with your CYA level. I...

Going to have to try the BBB method in the Spring

Hi DIY, First I would suggest that you get a good test kit like the TF Test Kits TF100, or Taylor K-2006. Without the test kit there is really no way to answer your question on using up the Trichlor you have. I would assume that if you have been using Trichlor for a long time your CYA is...

    FC loss

Being that its white I would say its probably just Trichlor residue and nothing to worry about.

Wow if that isn't an endorsement for BBB, I don't know what is!

    Bleach Expiration Date?

Yes its the first thing I check. It was marked as 6%, but it sure didn't act like 6%... Thanks choitink! I figured there had to be a way to read these if you could just decipher their code.

    Bleach Expiration Date?

I recently purchased bleach that was 6%, but I think it was old because it wasn't taking my FC to the correct calculated level when I used it. I bought the Lowe's store brand (first time ever) and I should have known better because it was at a fantastic discounted price. It was probably at that...

    FC loss

Are you using Trichlor? Is the "sludge" hard and white or is it something else?

    Got complacent--now paying the price

Yep it makes perfect sense. Without knowing what the true CYA number is, you may not be at a shock level. If you dont bring your pool up to that level and hold it, you will never turn the corner. Any idea on what your CC number is?

I'm not clear on how you would have done this. Was the sticker affixed to the mixing bottle incorrectly?

Please post your average daily FC loss % per CYA

Target FC = 6-7 (I usually take my FC up to the 7-8 range when I dose so that when it drops back during the day it never gets below 5-6. It gives me a tad more buffer) CYA = 50 FC Loss = 2-3 ppm Full sun

Eager for a sparkling oasis, but...

Being as it was a foreclosure they could have thrown anything down there. You might try rigging up a hook on the end of a 2X4 or something and see if you can snag whatever it is. Other than that your probably going to have to put some shoes and gloves on and go wading.

Stagger pump run times ? or one long run ?

I think your going to get about as many different answers to that question as there are people on this forum. I personally have a single speed pump that I run from 10 AM until 8 PM. I choose that time because that's when my family and friends will be using it the most and when I feel its most...

    Adding Bleach

This a pretty short run cycle. Generally people run a minimum of 8 to 10 hours for good filtration and water turn over. Not that I'm saying you need to run it that long because every pool is different. If the 4 hours works for you and you have clean water that's great.

    Full Sun Pool

I'm a noob and far from an expert, but I am learning quickly from everyone here and I would like to help. If your CYA is really 126 (and that's a big assumption until you get the test kit) then your FC number needs to be somewhere in the 10 - 16 range. Anything below 10 and your starting to...
