Another conversion - Finally done !!!

Re: Another conversion - Finally done (at least I thought so) so.....it's been a while since I "completed" my conversion. Enjoying the sparking clean pool, doing daily (VERY simple) testing, adding my 1 gal of HASA bleach (in returnable containers) every other day. I've even had to do the...

    Salty water?

So, I've completed my adventure of converting from the dark side to clean, clear BBB. No SWG, just use plain 'ol "pool chlorine" (the HASA 12.5% stuff in returnable jugs), test every day and swim to my hearts content  I know that sodium hypochlorite (we know it as "bleach") is actually...

    Pump timer maintenance

I've been away for a while (enjoying my pool...finally rid of the "goo") but lurking and reading on occasion. I've had similar experience with the timer trippers; finger tight just doesn't get the job done. I've been using a pair of needle nose pliers to tighten the post, almost to the point...

Help me Im drowning in baqua goo....

Mark's conversion there's a lot of conversions to read through, mine will show the rainbow of colors you may or may not be experiencing. my most significant learning through the process is - however much chlorine you think you need, it's not enough  keep adding chlorine - wait a...

    Should we convert?

Mark's Conversion As a point of reference, take a look through my conversion. We got the pool when we bought the house in 2004, and started with the Baq using the "AD" system that you have. Based on the $$ you quoted for chemicals, it looks like they are recommending "boxes" for use with the...

Lets hear your pool critter stories.

all I've had is a field mouse show up in the skimmer basket. our biggest issue is snails. They ususally hang out on the side, but if they make it into the pool I've seen the shell stop my Navigator. no snakes..... "snakes, why does it always have to be snakes"....

    Whats behind the name?

I'm an engineer by degree I work for a wine company Zinfandel is my favorite varietal (NOT White-Zin, although we make that as well) I usually have no problem getting the tag "zinengineer". sometimes on other boards I've used Warf (modification of my last name, also a trekkie thing), but I...

My pool has gas?? - Mystery solved??

So, I think I've figured out the mystery. When I areated with the spa blower, I simply turned it off and left the pump running overnight. Today, I let the pump timer turn off the pump per normal schedule. Wife turns on pump before I get home so I can test in the evening.....no air bubbles...

    Where to purchase bleach

Titanium I live in Modesto and have found both Lowe's and Home Depot carry the "kemtek" (I think that's the one). 10% solution in 2X1 gal boxes for about $6.50. Unfortunately you end up throwing them away. I'm guessing the Lowe's around Dublin/Pleasanton would also have them. If you're...

My pool has gas?? - Mystery solved??

Just completed conversion from Baquagoo Mark's conversion and I'm in the process of getting the chemistry lined up. Wasn't sure to post here or in "chemistry", but what the heck latest set of numbers FC = 2.5 CC = 2.5 (I know this is a little high but I'm adding bleach each night to bring up...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

final pictures. I'm working on getting the chemistry balanced (will address in "BBB" section). One final note for others planning this adventure.....if you leave your vacuum/robot in like I did (I think it helped keep things vacuumed) - plan on pulling out the vacuum head and hoses. I pulled...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

Just about done Well, I haven't updated during the week (actually have to work  ). The FC has been holding (more or less) overnight with between a 1-2 pt drop overnight. CC's have remained steady all week around 3.5-4.0 (depends on what I consider the "endpoint"). last set of numbers...

    More getting "Pool Stored"

so, I'm converting to BBB from "goo" and start looking around for cheap, refillable containers of bleach. I find Hasa on the internet and wonder if there's anywhere around here that sells it. We happened to wander into a pool chemical, construction, outdoor patio combination store. Lo and...

Conversion - how do pool stores do it?

    A. At least she has seen the light and is moving toward bleach B. Depending on whether or not someone has to actually pay for water, it might actually be less expensive to start with fresh water. We don't pay for extra water and I'm not so sure I would not have been better off draining, at...

    Stuck with Baquacil

If you want a realistic example of what you are up against, scan through the entire thread of my conversion Mark's Conversion I fully understand that you feel you are caught between a rock and a hard place, having just invested $$ into opening with Baquacil. We had "started" by adding some...

conversation upon return from long weekend.... wife = WOW-the pool looks beautiful me = I think this is what a pool is SUPPOSED to look like Sunday evening - FC = 1; CC = 3.5; pH = 7.2; TA = 135; CH = 340 Added 2X1 gal of 10%; FC up to 13 later in evening Monday AM - FC = 8.5; CC = 6.5...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

The green continues to lighten up. Tested last night FC @ 7, CC @ 6. Added more last night, tested this morning at >30FC so I'm leaving it for the weekend (we will be gone). One added benefit I've noticed - my Hayward Navigator works SO much better now that it's got clean water to swim...

    Oh yeah....another conversion

As one currently in the process of a conversion Mark's conversion you are asking all the right questions and have come to the right place. You have also made the wise choice A few comments 1. Patience - think of this as a journey with an excellent prize at the end 2. Yes; you will use...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

Headed in the right direction. I'm using my calibrated eyeball to judge the degree of color by looking at the steps in the pool. Contrasting pictures, looks like we're improving. I'm going to continue to add chlorine and wait to change filters when we get back from the long weekend. The tint...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

tested when I got home this evening - FC had dropped to 10. Not sure how much of that is attributed to sunlight vs. continuing to consume the "goo" - probably some of both. I added more chlorine (I'll have to tally the total when I'm done). I think I'm somewhere around 80 gal so far No...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

tested this AM - FC = 34 I think for now I'm holding off on adding any chlorine until I see it begin to drop. We will be away this weekend so I don't think I'll do anything with the filters until at least next week sometime. My guess is that the Baquagoo has somehow reacted strangely with the...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

so, it looks like I've moved to the land of OZ...emerald green. at least I haven't "gone plaid" (anybody, anybody??) I keep testing FC with drops - results continue to show >20 (I stop counting at 40 drops). I didn't add any today, hoping that the sun would do it's magic, but when I got home...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

well, I've continued to add chlorine; backed off on testing since I've been consistently >20 ppm FC. I think my total so far is 74 gal of 10% solution. The pool is getting much clearer, although now I've moved from a nice copper-red color to a light green. We're working our way through the...

9PM Saturday evening (Day 4) pH = 7.5; I added some acid but didn't get the reduction I'm looking for. I'll have to pick up some more acid tomorrow FC ~30; I'd say I got it fairly high at this point I'm leaving it alone for the night and will attack it again tomorrow some pictures... My...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

Saturday update we went through the emerald green phase - the color is now something I'd describe best as my favorite Pale Ale color (think Bass Pale Ale), nice copper color. I doubt we have high iron in our water and I'm not sure I could test for it anyway. the good news is, the water is...

Another conversion - Finally done !!!

lunchtime update.... FC = 2.5 - added another 4X1 gal of 10% solution. I'm up to either 36 or 40 (have to count when I get home) pool water is now a nice shade of emerald green....BUT I can see the steps and bottom of the spa and the top two steps of the pool. I'll brush down the side, clean...

I've got a new set of cartridges on order. The set I just took out is going in the trash (after I get a picture) and I'll keep cleaning the set in right now. This morning pH = 7.2 - I think I've just about hit the target others were directing me to FC = 3.5 Added 4X1 gal of 10% solution (I'm...
