I didnt want to take a lawnmower inside my fence either. And I quickly grew tired of trying to keep mulch looking fresh at our old house so I said I would never buy the stuff again. This stuff is so heavy that anything that gets in it, you can take the leaf blower to it and just blow it out and...

Yes I used a fabric product. its farily expensive to cover a large area but it works and it takes a LOT of punishment without tearing. You really need something under the rock to keep it clean, moreso than keeping weeds out (which is an impossibility). If you have rock on bare ground everytime...

Brand new to pools... please give some opinions

My pool is roughly 28x15. the PB initially had a 1.5hp pump on it and it was too noisy for my tastes. Asked him to replace it with a .75hp and much much happier and my pool couldnt tell the difference.

Here's the river rock around my deck. It's large #4 river rock or jack rock. A leaf blower won't move it. It's a pain to handle and haul (especially since I've got 14tons of it around my house) but you only do it once.

    Special PVC Elbows For Pools?

Thanks. Good to know. When you speak of DWV is that similar to what I've always called SDR pipe? That's what I have my gutter downspouts going into underground.

There are some great people here that will get you fixed up but they cant help you much without knowing your test results from a good test kit.

    Pool 3" off

I couldnt say. bamarambler is much more qualified to answer that question. I was just saying that is something you could try to fix the problem whenever you decide to do it. 3" over 14' is a lot to be out of level. My pool is 28' long and the specs call for it to be within .75" at the minimum...

    Can't hold chlorine levels

I think you should really get a good test kit. Strips are not thought to be reliable enough for shocking a pool. You need to be able to acurately measure higher FC levels and the FAS/DPD test is just the best way to do it. Keep using your liquid Cl while its being shipped then check and see...

Turning off the SWG while swimming???

I would agree with Jasonlion that while they might be perfectly safe, without the certification I would just shut it off. Your SWCG is independent of your pump and being in the return back to your pool, it wont make any difference that you have hayward pump and filter.

    Pool 3" off

3" out of level over 14' is pretty significant I would say. Maybe next season try something like a gravel base with a geotextile fabric over that and then put the sand over the fabric. That should help water drain through and away without washing the sand out from underneath your pool which is...

New IG pool owner, looking for plumbing best practices?

Yes, if you dont have water features, spas, solar roof panels and such there isnt much reason for over complicating things with too many bypasses and the like. You will find that PVC is very easy to work with once you make up the first couple joints. Just remember that once you stick it, its stuck.

    just getting it going

Must have been some CYA in your ph stabilizer. If you havent added any, and havent been using pucks for a while I cant imagine your CYA is 35-40. Id run that test again before adding any if you do decide to. It shouldnt be there if you didnt add it is what Im saying. jasonlion is good with this...

Keeping water balanced at a weekend house

Speaking from the experience of a shift worker who works 12hr shifts and sometimes goes 4 days without so much as looking out the back door to see if the pool is still there I highly suggest a SWCG in your case. I test my water every week at a min and it always seems to hang right around the...

Think of vinyl dashboards in cars made in the late 80's and 90's. The landau tops of cadillacs and such. Very similiar material to what your pool liner is made of. Sunlight breaks it down over time and it cracks.

I couldnt say. If the tears are above the water line and I just wanted to get a season out of it I might give it a shot. I grew up with liner pool but never have tried patching one. But heat doesnt make things shrink---quite the opposite actually. The heat (or more specifically the ultra violet...

Take the time to measure and install glued PVC. If you find a place and think "I could put a union here" Do it. Unions save so much hassle down the road and arent a big deal to install when your already cutting and cementing PVC. Definitely put a union on the suction and discharge side of your...

What's the consensus on Intellichlor IC40 cells?

Not sure the firmware on mine (IC40) but assuming its the latest as it was manufactured in 4/12. Obviously have not had it very long but I can say that I have had exactly zero issues with it since the first time it was switched on. I run it and my pump on the same switch 24/7 with the IC40 at...

Yeah you need to have a new liner installed. Sounds like it may have been at the end of its life or a little undersized to begin with.
