Anyone have any ingenious ways to heat water in an Above Ground?

Why do people continue to state this when you can get 100 feet of black irrigation tubing for $13? Every thread out on the internet asking about heating a pool states this. When it's $150 for a single commercial solar panel, how is half a sheet of plywood and 100 feet of black tubing for $13...

Thanks again, and encouragement for newbies.

I can repeat the OP words as my own. I joined here in, 2012 I think with just an Intex pool? Read several times a day. From day 1 I could as someone stated in another thread toss a quarter down on the bottom and tell if it was heads or tails and read the date. I blew up my SWG with an...

    Finished deck pictures

Holy cow, heck with the deck. Look at that sunset! I don't get sunsets like that. The sky turns light pink for about 10 minutes and then it's dark. Hills and trees, that's all we have. The sun is already beyond the near distant treeline at sunset and it's just dark. Yeah, beautiful deck...

    Pool Water Temperature?

78 is the absolute low for me. It's chilly but doable once you get in. Below that, my kids will get in but I won't. 86 is stinkin hot! 82-84 is about perfect. 85 starts to feel a bit too warm and 86 is definitely too warm. We haven't been in the pool since about the 2nd week of June. I...

    2014 Weather

Our pool hasn't been out of the low 70's since early June. Haven't been in it since early June.

Has anyone taken on the care of an additional pool?

A fantastic idea! I missed this when reading through. In that case, I definitely agree. I wouldn't do it anyways. As they say, give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life. Help her start, teach her the way, and steer her to TFP.

    Best $250 ever spent!!!

Wow, the folks looking out the kitchen window at the pool are huge! LOL

I envy you folks with lawns to build on (new build on gravel)

How many more trips did you make for more rolls of gorilla tape? I triple seamed the tape and bought 2 rolls. Went back for 2 more, then again. Finally, couldn't afford the gorilla tape any more as I was running out of money so bought 2 rolls of regular heavy duty duct tape. I don't remember...

Video showing how clear your pool can be!

Dang, having a blast in such a cold summer! We haven't been in the pool since early June. Other than the last 2 days, I don't think we've been at 80°. Water temp isn't going to recover with just 2 days of 85 and close to 90°. I haven't looked, but judging from having my hand in the water...

Vacuum adapter for Intex Ultra Frame 22' AGP

A month old thread now, but it was brought to my attention from another thread. I have a 22' (does the vacuum, skimmer, and stuff no longer come with the pool? Mine did but that was 3 years ago...) with the 2600 gph paper filter and this year I tried to vacuum the bottom when opening up by...

Landscaping around base of Intex Ultra Frame pools

That is gorgeous! I have a question for you, Coastal Carolina. What is your source for the long pine needles for mulching landscape? Last year at Myrtle Beach walking the boardwalk, I pointed out the landscaping all over and mentioned to my wife that we needed to do that. Edging the...

A Funny Pool Store Story....(probably common)

I have a guy at work argue with me just about every day since it was time to open up the pools. I keep telling him just to use bleach. He keeps adding bag after bag after bag of shock, for 2 months now, and his pool is still green. I try to explain to him the chemicals and he argues with me...

Running the pump while in pool

My pump comes on at 10 am and shuts off at 9 pm. After lunch and after dinner is when the kids will be swimming and if there is a single sighting of a bug, they go ballistic, LOL. So, must be skimmed continuously starting before they get in to get the previous night's floaters out.

    This weather stinks

Yeah, it's funny how folks in all the different locations feel about water temp. Mine got up to 86 only once. Felt like a lobster jumping into the lobster pot to us, LOL. I just shake my head at the folks who comment elsewhere how they don't get in until water is 90° and such.

Finally filling the pool tomorrow - startup questions

A few days late to the party, you probably already have it up and going, but.... You add bleach first because the SWG is designed to maintain the Cl level, not bring it up from 0 or bring it up and large amount. If you did all that, I'm sure all is well. How is it?

    Posts not vertical

My Intex is 3 years old now. Not only do I have the rope on the bottom, but my strap around the middle isn't anything like that. I think my legs are through the strap, not in a sleeve connected to the strap. I could be wrong though. I'm in my 3rd summer now. One side, about 3 legs, are...

Deck extension help or advice needed for new AGP

That looks awesome. Being in PA, I didn't think I could use deck blocks instead of digging a footer. You did it in CT? Don't you have worse freeze than I do? I want to build a deck but have some things in my way. First is cost which is the biggest hindrance. Second is, it would be right...

    This weather stinks

Haven't seen this thread yet as I'm just popping on now and then. I missed all the PA discussion about the June storms. I mimic all those, storm after storm, the kids haven't been in the pool much all of June. Good thing is, the corn, tomatoes, cukes, and potatoes look awesome in the garden...

    Pool is now UP!

For what it's worth, with my Intex SWG, after initially using bleach on the first day after getting the pool up and bleach last year initially opening the pool, I didn't touch anything other than testing the water both seasons. The SWG really is 0 maintenance. I'm doing bleach so far this year...

Foam floor instead of sand what do you use to keep the ladder from crushing foam?

Pool noodle is a great idea. Better than a mat I think. I have a 3/4 inch thick black rubberized mat that I got at Tractor Supply. It's sort of like a truck bed mat material. You buy it by the foot off a big roll. Only problem is with the water circulation, it will flow out from under the...

I want to hard plumb this year!

For just snapshots, Photobucket is OK. The site is now clunky and confusing with content and fluff. Photobucket has changed the quality of all my old photos and I can no longer use them. If you do anything photography hobby related, Photobucket is no longer viable for storage of high quality...

I want to hard plumb this year!

I disagree. This thread totally rocked for me because I had never read that people were using higher quality pool specific ball valves. I assumed everyone was using standard ball valves from Lowes/Home Depot. Now I know if I still get to hard plumbing, to use better ball valves.

18' X 48" Intex Ultra Pool: Who can advise on leaving up year round, cold climate?

Re: 18' X 48" Intex Ultra Pool: Who can advise on leaving up year round, cold climat I'm just slightly different. Northwestern PA. We saw -30° temps this past winter. I've gone through 2 winters now. I'm different in.that I don't cover. Hurricane Sandy shredded my cover the first winter...

Intex Pool - Metal Frame or Easy Up

I've had an Easy Up, 2 small regular tubular metal frames, and now an Ultra frame. No contests, the metal pole frame is much better than the Easy Ups, but the Ultra Frame is miles better than regular metal pole frame. The 2nd metal pole frame lasted 2 years (first one eaten by a yellow Lab...

    The horror...the horror

I hear you. We went through 400 gallons which is 2 tanks of heating oil in February and March. It cost us $600 to fill up in February and $800 in March. We saw -32 degrees going to work in the morning, I think it wad early March. I took my first bicycle ride on a new bike I picked up on March...

    Sodium hypochloride

So I have a coworker who complains about his green pool and how he's been working on it pretty much for at least 5 weeks now. He keeps telling me it is clear but just cloudy. I saw it when I rode past yesterday on the bike trail above his house. It's not cloudy, it's definitely green. He keeps...

    Good vs Bad Neighbors

Thats why I live in the country. No nosey neighbors to bother me. The old man "next door" couldn't care less about my pool nor could he care less when he waves to me while I'm climbing into the pool naked because he's too far away to even know I'm naked while he is waving to me :D Yeah, I don't...

    What's your current pool temp?

Kids have been swimming all week since Memorial Day. Pool has been warming from 74 in the morning to a high of 77 in the late afternoon. Too cold for me but I think the kids would swim at 53°. Well, all week except for yesterday. Rain all through the day yesterday. No swimming for the kids...

    How to drain a pool.

Duh, never thought of the method Richard320 posted on how to get the siphon going. I use the hose that came with the pool for the vacuum and to get the siphon going, I just pressed it quickly to a shopvac. When we had a smaller pool, I would empty it almost the entire way leaving a few inches...
