If you sand it before staining, I think alot of the splinter issue goes away. I did not do that, as the deck is pretty large and I do not own a power sander. The next time I stain it (hopefully not for several years) I will rent one tho.

Pool water got up to 78 degrees yesterday (with help from solar blanket and electric heater), and we had our first pool day of 2013! Water temp was 48 degrees on the 6th of April. Heater + Solar blanket were well worth the investment.

Reading that article, I have to ask....how do you plan to clean yourself at all? It argues that you are poisoning yourself by taking a bath (skin absorption of chlorine from tap water), then argues that the high temperatures of a shower lead to high rates of inhalation of chlorine in the mist.
