Replacing the motor shaft seal on my Pentair Superflo

Bump. I'm desperate and in a bit of a time crunch.

Replacing the motor shaft seal on my Pentair Superflo

What if it didn't come with any lube? Is there something I can go buy at Home Depot or Lowe's? EDIT: Or Walmart or anywhere really... the instructions on the seal said not to use any silicone based lubricants. It recommended using Sealube (water-based) so I'm wondering if/where I can just...

Replacing the motor shaft seal on my Pentair Superflo

Hi! I found a leak under my pump today (while I'm nearing the end of SLAMming my pool for algae) and I'm pretty sure it's the motor shaft seal that needs to be replaced. I've ordered new parts, but I need to know if I'm supposed to lubricate anything when I put it on. I actually wiped off the...

Losing sand from my sand filter. Water is scummy on top...

Re: Losing sand from my sand filter. Water is scummy on top So, if I have to take my filter apart to see what it is, does that mean my pool will be without a filter and without circulation for a few days? Or however long it takes to get the new part in?

Re: Losing sand from my sand filter. Water is scummy on top Hi! I don't have my numbers, but all of my tests have been within acceptable ranges for a pool of my type. I use the k-2006 test kit.

Losing sand from my sand filter. Water is scummy on top...

Hey guys! I posted before with this, but I was in the middle of dealing with winter algae. Now that that is cleared up, I wanted to start fresh with a new post. So, I have 2 problems. A short term problem is that there is scum on the top of my pool. It's stuff that I can't fish out of the...

HELP! My algaefied (new word) pool needs help!

So, my pool has been clean for a couple weeks now. :D The OCLT came back great! Now I have to deal with some other things. I'll create a new thread in the appropriate forum for it. Thanks for everything, guys! You were a great help!

Rebuilding my pool -- How much $$$ do you think?

I have a standard vinyl liner pool (about 15k gallons) with a deep end and a shallow end. The top of the pool is set about 30" above the level of my house and a cement patio was built around it with a retaining wall about 8 feet away from my house. My questions: 1. Is it possible to have the...

HELP! My algaefied (new word) pool needs help!

Hey guys, I couldn't do the OCLT test the other night. I'm going to try and get it done tonight. To the guy who's working on his pool, it took a while for results to show up. Something that I thought of a couple days ago was to take the Chlorine a couple PPM above shock level so that if it...

HELP! My algaefied (new word) pool needs help!

Ok... so I need to test in another couple of hours and put more in it? I've been testing like every morning, afternoon and night. I can't do it more than that throughout the day because I work, but I can test it a few times during the stretch of time after work. If I test in the morning and...

HELP! My algaefied (new word) pool needs help!

Ok. My pool is getting a lot clearer, but it's taken this long to do it... as you can see, my initial post was on April 9th. Now it's April 24th and the water in the deep end is still a little green, though I can see the bottom clearly now. The water in the shallow end is pretty clear and...

Filter Problem: Sand in my pool

Oh, another question.... That guide says to make sure you have all the parts you need before you open up your filter. So... if I don't know what's wrong with it, should I just go ahead and buy like 6 or 7 laterals and a bunch of other parts that could possibly be at fault?

Filter Problem: Sand in my pool

I don't know if it helps or not, but there is always sand in my viewing glass (where I see if the water is clear on the back of the filter) And yes, it's a top-mount filter. I'm not sure of the model number. I'll have to check when I get home.

HELP! My algaefied (new word) pool needs help!

UPDATE: My pool water is becoming clearer. I can now see the bottom of the shallow end and some of the walls in the deep end. However, now I have another problem. There's a lot of sand in my pool. If you can help with that, follow up over here where I posted a thread about it...

Filter Problem: Sand in my pool

Hey guys! I just posted something in the algae forum (post470885.html#p470885) about an algae problem from a winter where my pool was untouched. Now that the water is clearing up, I'm starting to see a LOT of sand in my pool. I'm assuming it's coming from my filter. I've always had little...

HELP! My algaefied (new word) pool needs help!

Definitely! I'm not opposed to cleaning the pool of algae every spring, but it's all the "stuff" that gets in the pool that's the real chore. I may leave it untouched all winter again, but hopefully I'll buy a cover and at least be able to keep most/all of the leaves out for next year.

HELP! My algaefied (new word) pool needs help!

Thanks, Bama. I actually had already considered Magic Erasers! Good call! I have attempted to get everything out of the pool, but I broke one of my poles when trying to get my leaf rake out with a large number of leaves. Now I have one that is just barely long enough to reach the deep end...

HELP! My algaefied (new word) pool needs help!

Hi everyone! I have a 15,000 gallon in-ground pool with a SAND filter. I had it up and running all summer last year with the help of this forum and the pool school. It was great!! However, over the winter, I haven't touched it.... and didn't have a cover on it... So, as you can guess, it was...

    CYA seems waaaaaay too low.

Sorry, the water is clear. I have stuff in the water (debris, etc.) that needs to be cleaned out, but it's clear other than that. I'm having trouble getting enough suction to my vacuum, so I'm having trouble sucking the sand out of the bottom of my pool (leftover from when the filter was...

    CYA seems waaaaaay too low.

I ran my tests this morning. I've got 6ppm of FC (after a full day of sunlight and no CYA) and 0ppm of CC. I bought some stabilizer on Tuesday night and I'll be adding it tonight. I think everything is good now. I've got no CC and the water isn't cloudy. Yay!

    CYA seems waaaaaay too low.

Yes. I'm following the directions exactly. Fill the bottle to the first line (I think the number was 7, but I don't have the kit with me) with pool water, then to the second line (think it was 14) with the R-0013, mix and then slowly put into small tube until black dot disappears.

    CYA seems waaaaaay too low.

Haven't checked my water temp in a day or two, but it was around 76-78 last time I checked. Not sure what my CC is. I forgot to test it. :/ I'll test it tonight when I get home. The water looks pretty clear, but it doesn't appear to be "sparkling" yet. I'll give it a day or two to let the...

    CYA seems waaaaaay too low.

Ok, so I dosed my pool up to shock levels yesterday afternoon (due to my schedule, I couldn't wait until night time). But, I didn't test until I got home that night. It was 12.4ppm late that night. Then, I woke up this morning late, so it was already light outside, but it was overcast and...

    CYA seems waaaaaay too low.

Question: When I dose to 11ppm... how long do I need to let the pool circulate before my test tonight will be accurate enough to compare to my results tomorrow morning?

    CYA seems waaaaaay too low.

Maybe I'm missing something, but in Pool School the overnight FC loss test "http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-school/overnight_fc_test" only mentions one thing to pass... not three. Can you point me to the other 2?

    CYA seems waaaaaay too low.

Ok, I ran the overnight loss test last night. I tested at like 12:00-12:30 or something. Then, I woke up this morning early and tested again at 6:15am. Last night = 2.5ppm FC Today = 2.0ppm FC It rained a bit last night if that makes a difference. What does this mean? Pool school says...
