    My home made solar collector

Your right the white pipe is 50mm PVC. The black pipe is just 13mm Irrigation tube, and lots of time. I've not got any assembly pictures, I dont normally remember to take photos at the right times. (Too busy in what I am normally doing at the time.) I'll go and get a close up of the interface at...

    My home made solar collector

Hi All. Just thought I would share a couple of pix of my Solar collector that I have just finished building in the past few days as part of the plumbing upgrade that I have been working on. In the pic that shows it installed, it would seen that the collectors are hidden, but that is just the...

    Return Pipe Angle

Its the way it was built 40 odd years ago. The old plumbing was ok, but that was a mix of 32mm, and 40mm PVC and plastic pipe. Im replacing the skimmer and upgrading the plumbing to 50mm where posible, as the filter can only take 40mm. Im also installing solar as well while Im at it. Im...

    Return Pipe Angle

Thanks duraleigh. One thing that I did forget to mention was that the return is sometimes above the water line, so it could be easy for the water to drain out when the pool water gets a bit low.

    Return Pipe Angle

Hi All I'm currenty redoing all the pipe work on the pool. I have a quick question. If the return from the Multiport to the pool eye is of an angle to allow the water to drain out of the pipe into the pool when the pump is off, will that cause the remaining water to drain back via the filter...

No PH or TA adjustment for almost 2 years

Hi All Im getting my pool up and running again for our new season so still adjusting the water. However looking at the numbers the PH and TA are the same as they were 12 months ago when Inopened up the pool, and how I left them at the end of the season. Any other feedback before I start making concrete plans?

    Plumbing upgrade

Most of the debree is just the general stuff that ends up in the pool. Leaves, bits of paper, pool toys and most things that keep floating, which is why I was not really being specific about it. Where would the returns best be placed? Top left and bottom right as in the pic, or somewhere else...

    Plumbing upgrade

Hi All I hope that you are enjoying your swimming season. Its a bit too chilly here for swiming so I've been using the downtime to plan on installing a home made solar heater. And due to the skimer having a crack, and a suction leak, I've decided to replumb everything while I'm at it, but have...

Vinyl Liner tearing along join at top of Pool

BTW, what other products are suitable as I don't think that I can get HH-66 in New Zealand

Vinyl Liner tearing along join at top of Pool

Thanks for that. Should I be putting the patch on the small strip that it has pulled away from, or can I put the patch onto the hard (pvc type, not sure) plastic just above the liner? What is going through my mind at the moment (since your post) is to put a strip all way around the pool (its...

Vinyl Liner tearing along join at top of Pool

Hi All It's been a small while since I've been here, the advice here has been so good, I have not had too many issues getting the pool going this year and keeping it crystal clear. (Although the leaves and dust do there best to do there worst.) I here to ask some advice on the best course of...

Sand filter extremely "clogged" after 4 months

Im no expert, but something that should be mentioned, and you may have already done it, but have you tested the fresh water going into the pool? Also next time your talking to the manafacturers, see if they can send through a recommended plumbing diagram to see how the setup your dealing with...

Measuring pool volume during drain refill?

While waiting for one of the other experts to come along, I'll put my 2c in. I cant see any reason you could not source a sutable size water meter and plum it in, however I expect that it would cost quite a bit. If you could hire/borrow that would be good. One other way is, depending on how...

Using a sand filter without the filter

No worries. I work in IT so I know what it is like to have tickets with resolutions in them so you know what to do for next time.

Using a sand filter without the filter

Just following up for those Google users who stumble on the side issue of this thread, Replacing the Spider Gasket resolved the sand returning onto the pool issues as well.

    Clogged Suction Line

Can you get hold of an drain inspection camera and poke that down the line, would let you see what you are dealing with so you can make a plan of action. If the jack hammer is required, you then know where to target.

How do you trouble shoot a heater

You will want the meter set to ACV at the 200 mark. That will set the meter up to measure AC Volts, with the max range of 200.

    Outdoor Speaker Solutions

While I don't have any out door entertainment currenty, I do use a Linux MythTV Media system. This will be EASY to extend to the pool when the time and $ allows. I am looking at moving to LMCE which is a Linux based Home Control system. It can among other systems can also control the pool and...

    needing help....... from australia

Hi Ruth. Just want to say Hi from across the ditch. I got a home a few months back and never looked after a pool before. As mentioned above order a test kit, and read and reread the pool school. Follow the advice and you'll have a crystal clear pool that is easy to maintain.

Using a sand filter without the filter

New spider gasket in now. No water leak that I can see, pump keeps prime. Now to wait to see if I keep getting sand in the pool by the return.

    Cl Testing Reagents and Supplys

Just got the R1+R2 reagents and comparator. Im amazed how much harder it is to do the test using a comparason, rather than the drops. Now to see if I can sell the old comparator, cant see me ever using it again

Using a sand filter without the filter

Ive got a new spider gasket on order (its a bit sus as the pump is now loosing prime too) and will see how it goes after install. As you suggest it may resolve the sand issue. And at NZ$18 its not a break the bank fix. I still cant see how runnning a pool without a filter will turn ugly that...

Using a sand filter without the filter

I think one of the laterals on the sand filter has a crack in it as I'm getting some sand (or what looks like sand looking from outside the pool) by the return. I poped the multiport valve off the filter over the weekend and did see some sand (only a few grains) at the bottom of the virtical...

    Cl Testing Reagents and Supplys

I'll do that then. I've got a day off work Monday week so will pick up some the DPD test then. I'll talk to them about the FAS-DPD test while I am there to see what can be done. Replacing the kit here is not cheep, it cost me just over NZ$200 (~US$160) to order it in and everything else (apart...
