Losing prime everytime we turn off pump....

Okay folks. Thanks for your replies and we bought a new O Ring for the pump basket and so far we are not losing prime. Also, it was leaking some each time we turned it off and it no longer does that. Hopefully that takes care of our problem. Thanks everyone you're the best!!

Losing prime everytime we turn off pump....

Thanks for the responses folks. We will check all of these things and hopefully something will help and it won't be a big deal.

Losing prime everytime we turn off pump....

Started a couple of days ago. Everytime we turn off the pump you can hear this big "whooshing" (for lack of a better term) noise and all of the water goes out of the pump basket. It's like we have to prime the pump when first starting up the pool. Takes a long time and then the pump basket...

    Pool stains

Yes I have been backwashing every few days or when the pressure goes up about 5. The water is just cloudy that comes out from backwashing. Butterfly I just saw you asked about the ingredients. It's made by Poolife and no where on the bottle can I find any ingredients. That should have told me...

    Pool stains

Thanks Jason and yes I agree about adding things. $20 for the bottle seemed cheaper than draining the pool and having it acid washed for starters. Won't be able to tell if it helped or not until I can see the bottom. :? I have up'd the chlorine to 25 and will let it run a few more days to...

    Pool stains

I added the acid yesterday because PH was at least 7.8 I've been reading the forums and am thinking that I just haven't shocked high enough and that I need to keep it high for a few days. Does that sound right? What does it mean when I've read "sand channeling"? There is no dirty water coming...

    Pool stains

Re: Pool stains (UPDATE) and problem Ok, so as I posted elsewhere I opened the pool to clear water and everything was going fine.....until.....still unsatisfied with the pool stains I went to the pool store with a water sample. No metals. Vit C tablet didn't phase the stains. So.... :oops...

    Thanks!

Just wanted to say last fall was the first time we've closed our pool by ourselves. Have always opened but were scared to close without the pool people doing it. After they went up to $273 in '08 we decided to try it after reading everything we could on here. Opened it Sunday and it's also the...

    Pool stains

The stains were here when we bought the house in 2004. They haven't gotten worse they are just unsightly. The pool guy also said we could do an acid wash to remove the stains but that would mean draining the pool. I always keep my FC in balance so that isn't the problem. My pool is always...

    Pool stains

Here are a couple of pictures. But I have to say first when you mention using a "puck or a tablet" I am talking about many feet of staining not just a few little stains. The first picture is of the bottom of the pool up against the egde and the second is the black spot at the end of the pool...

    Pool stains

Our pool is at least 15 years old and has stains on the bottom and some on the sides. I had a pool guy come to get an estimate on resurfacing the pool and was shocked when he said he thought it was in good condition and didn't need resurfacing. He suggested using something called Super Spot...

    What would cause this change?

Hopefully this will take care of my problem. Hubby took the pressure gauge off and put some tape on it and screwed it back in. Now the pressure is back up and the pump basket is full again.

    What would cause this change?

Thanks, has to be an air leak then cause both are clean. How do I go about fixing it?

    What would cause this change?

I got a new gauge a couple of weeks ago and it went right to 18 and stayed there consistantly. I backwashed a week ago because I needed to drain water because of so much rain. Anyway, we usually run our pump about 8 hrs a day but hubby left it on all night Saturday. I turned it off when I...

    April Showers bring May Flowers?

I need to up my CYA but everyday the weather man says we are going to get up to 4" of rain. So I don't want to have to lose the stabilizer I add and I keep waiting. Do we get the 4" of rain? Nope Having a pool is always a challenge. :)

    pressure gauge

This may just be the dumbest question of the day but...... The pressure gauge that screws into my filter is broken. What exactly does it do? If everything is running fine and the water is clear and the Kreepy is working, does it really matter if it's working or not?

    Question after the fact

haha oh sorry, I think it's because DH wouldn't leave the lid on the basket to the pump and he kept closing the little thingy for the air to come out on the top of the filter. Does that sound like a good reason?

    Question after the fact

hmmm I guess I didn't say all those little plugs that screw into the pump and filter? That's the plugs I meant.

    Question after the fact

It is full of water now but they drained the pipes last fall. You're not the only one that's confused. Thank goodness we finally got it to work but I was just wondering how come it took so long. I think now I know :)
