Well, I was looking for a less drastic way than converting to salt. Might not be another option, though.

Need Advice: Out Of The Country Every 3 Months for 3 Months At A Time...

Hey all I feel I'm at the mercy of our local pool company due to the schedule my wife and I keep. We have a non-profit, and we live in Cambodia for 3 months, twice a year (Jan-March and July-October). While we're gone, I have our local pool company take care of things, but they, of course...

Another Newbie! First Pool and First Full Test

Everything still seems to be going well, and we've loving the pool! Today's numbers are: FC: 6 CC: - pH: 7.7 TA: 110 CH: 260 CYA: 40 I used the pool calc to get my CH up to the target area, and the CYA has just been dropping on its own over the last few months. All seems well!

Another Newbie! First Pool and First Full Test

The returns are pointing down, so the only aeration is when we run the foam jets when we're in the pool, but that's only once a week or so.

Another Newbie! First Pool and First Full Test

Things are still cranking along, getting into a routine! I add enough bleach to raise FC 1-2ppm every day, and my pH goes from 7.6 to 7.8 every 2 days. Is this normal for pH? How on earth are people who only check pH once a week able to keep things in check -- or is my constant pH rise due in...

Another Newbie! First Pool and First Full Test

Still trucking along! It appears my CYA is dropping naturally somehow...massive rain, lots of use...it's down to 50 from 60. I guess I won't look a gift horse in the mouth! :) FC: 6.5 CC: less than .5 pH: 7.6 TA: 110 CH: 210 CYA: 50 The TA keeps dropping. It has been floating at 130, but it's...

Just over a month, so still adjusting. :)

    Is This Scale?

Weather allowed us a great day of enjoying the pool, and I noticed a white, chalky build-up ONLY around the tiles under the spa overflow. As you'll see in the pics, the buildup was mainly concentrated on the grout. I could easily wipe it off, and then it disintegrated into the pool water...

Another Newbie! First Pool and First Full Test

After an apparent False Algae Alarm, my FC is still running high -- but it dropped form 25 to 22, so it's coming down. :D I assume it's best to just let it drop naturally as opposed to using ChemOut to drop it, correct? I also assume that it's okay for me to continue treating/maintaining my pH...

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

Sounds good. At least I learned how to easily maintain a shock level throughout the day! I burned through a lot of chemicals, so my 2006 is finally running low -- so I ordered TF-100 just now. Thanks, all!

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

Things are pretty much exactly the same, and I'm beginning to wonder if the discoloration I see really is algae at all. If it weren't for the one set of overnight results showing 1.5-2.0ppm drop, I'd say it was just some kind of greasy mark that got dust/pollen/something stuck to it. Whatever it...

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

Yes, I typoed! I'll keep it at 24ppm.

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

I'll shock it up to 24ppm all day, then do another overnight test.

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

Did the overnight test last night. First sample was 4+ hours after I shocked, and it read 25.5ppm. Got up before full sunrise to get my second sample, and it tested either 23.5 or 24 (I got 23.5 the first time, and 24 the second). That's a change of either 2ppm or 1.5ppm, so I guess I need to...

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

Hm, I wonder why the images aren't loading for some people... Anyway, I went ahead and started the shock process. Looking at the chart, 24ppm is my target with a CYA of 60. Brushing doesn't make any difference -- I have to get into the spa and wipe it off with my finger. It's almost like it's...

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

Hah, yeah, it's not that easy to see in the pic. As pale as it is, it's something new that hasn't been there, so I noticed it. t circled the main areas :

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

I had enough bleach left in my bottle to add 68oz, bringing my FC up to about 11-11.5ish. If all my numbers have been good -- and they have -- how can algae be forming?

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

Got out there and reached in (minding my right forearm tattoo), and was able to wipe it off. I guess it had a slight "slimy" feel -- but it wasn't thick or anything. I then wiped my finger on a white portion of my suit (sorry, honey), and it appeared more yellow-green than green-green. It was...

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

Are y'all not seeing the pic for some reason? It's displaying fine in my browser(s)...? FC: 6.6 CC: less than .2 pH: 7.8 TA: 130 CH 210 CYA: 60 Ha, no tattoo pics -- but it's just on my right forearm. I can use my feet to try and feel the stain thingie. :) Here's a link to the stain pic if it...

Could This Be The Start Of Something?

The weather has finally cleared up for now, so I was checking out the pool today -- and I noticed something on the covers in the spa floor. I tried to brush it off, but it won't budge. I'm going to get in there tonight (hopefully) and see if I can feel it -- but I have a massive new tattoo that...

Another Newbie! First Pool and First Full Test

I think I've got controlling the pH under control, and I put in a whopping 3.5 OUNCES last night to get me down to 7.5 in this afternoon's test. :-D I feel pretty confident in saying I think I have the bleach and pH areas under control as far as basic treatment -- the Pool Calc has been dead-on...

How To Drain Water From My Pool...?

Another Newbie! First Pool and First Full Test

Oh man, the weather has been KILLER for us! Our pool install was part of a larger remodel, and our back yard looks like a HUUUUGE mud pit. We're getting a new fence put up, and it's just slop out there. We also have to get landscaping and sprinkler system parts moved around. We have anywhere...

How To Drain Water From My Pool...?

Here are several pics, and yes, there's a drain at the bottom -- my understanding is that the pool bottom debris catcher is where the water would drain. ???

How To Drain Water From My Pool...?

I'm pretty sure I know what the consensus will be, but I thought I'd ask it anyway: if I post pics of our pumps and equipment, can you guys/gals explain what I need to do to drain water from my pool -- or, should I just go ahead and call the pool installer and let him show me? Our installer is a...

Another Newbie! First Pool and First Full Test

Thanks, Linen! You confirmed my understanding that it would take a significant amount of rain to dilute CYA. I didn't think to hit the Pool Calc before posting, but it looks like I'd have to replace about 770 gallons to drop 5ppm. That's a LOT of rain! :)
