Salt cell scaling despite keeping negative CSI, why?

I was wondering how much the speed of the pump while the swg is active would affect the chemistry inside the cell. Does the pump need to be at a high speed to make sure that the water doesn't get too warm in there? Or is the difference going to be negligible between 1500 and 2500 rpm.

Salt cell scaling despite keeping negative CSI, why?

Yeah, last measurement was 900 but it's very high. I'll just switch to liquid chlorine until the end of the season then drain.

Salt cell scaling despite keeping negative CSI, why?

I have been battling scaling in my SWG. I've been careful about keeping my CSI slightly negative, but still lots of calcium buildup. Granted my CH is getting really high and I'll need to drain soon, I still just don't understand why I'm getting so much scaling even though I believe my pool...

Would this work to reduce CH without draining?

Does the calcium bind to the polyphosphates in this cartridge? Just wondering if I ran this in the winter and kept my chlorine at basically zero would it make any difference. I understand this is not designed for pools, so just think of this as I thought experiment. Why would this not work, or...

Would this work to reduce CH without draining?

That is a good question, I am not entirely sure. I need to test my fill water again and see what's going on. Regardless of how it happened though, it is my current reality. Okay so this device or anything like it will not work. Got it. I've looked into reverse osmosis before, but that is a very...

Would this work to reduce CH without draining?

It seems like there must be some device out there that could remove calcium from my water in my pool without costing an arm and leg. I just really don't want to have to drain my pool since every other aspect of my water is fine, but my calcium hardness is above 700 now and the scaling on my swg...

Reasonable quote for pool + deck resurfacing?

That's good advice. I tend to be impatient and don't always get as many quotes on things as should.

Reasonable quote for pool + deck resurfacing?

I have a ~13k gallon play pool that I need resurfaced, and old cool decking that needs to be replaced. This quote is in line with what I was expecting, but I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts or advice to share. Also - any opinions on StoneScapes brand pebbles vs pebbletec?

    https://www.costco.com/chlorine-free-sun-shock-pool-purifier.product.100228627.html

Many years ago before I found TFP I tried this product. It didn't help and was a huge pain to clean. Don't waste your time with it. If you follow the guidance from this site, you'll never deal with algae again and spend way less time taking care of your pool.

    Chlorine availability during the winter?

Same climate here. Chlorine consumption goes way down in the winter. Not that it's advised, but I don't even test my levels between November and March since algae is unlikely to grow when it's so cold and we're obviously not swimming anymore. I just add a half gallon or so every weekend and call...

    Hello water lovers

I'll let the others chime in, but my two cents is you should fix the CYA before bothering with anything else since that is going to require a water exchange.

Lowered TA to 50, let's see if pH stabilizes...

That or we keep dumping pucks and pool store potions into our pools year after year thinking "There's got to be a better way!" - at least that's how I was before TFP enlightened me.

Lowered TA to 50, let's see if pH stabilizes...

Yeah I figured I would still need to stay on top of it, no pool is truly "set it and forget it". You remind me I need to test my fill water. I have a water softener, curious if that has any effect on the TA of the fill water.

Lowered TA to 50, let's see if pH stabilizes...

After dealing with chronic high pH and SWCG cell scaling issues, I've taken the advice here and lowered my TA from 100 to 50 over the past month using aeration and regularly adding muratic acid to bring the pH back down. One observation, is that it is surprising to me how long this process...

    First TF100 Tests

Your cya is on the high end but nothing to worry about especially since you aren't using pucks (which will only continue to increase your cya). Your numbers all look good overall, have fun swimming!

Recent pool owner with algae problems in Phoenix AZ

I go through roughly 1 gallon per month of the 31.45% acid from the pool store, sometimes more. I don't understand your last question about salt, can you elaborate? I never have added salt since I originally installed my swcg since the salt level only ever goes up since we get so little...

Recent pool owner with algae problems in Phoenix AZ

Hi 👋 fellow valley of the sun resident here. I don't see it mentioned here, but also make sure to check out the pool math app. It makes it really easy to ensure you're not over doing it with any one chemical. The basic version is free, which is more than adequate unless you want to store testing...

Citric acid suitability for SWG cleaning

I just used a citric acid solution to help clean my plates last week, along with the waterpik which worked really well. I only did a 5% solution because I didn't want to overdo it, I'm not sure how high you could go without risking too much damage to the plates. I left it in the solution for a...

Yikes.... how do I clean heavy calcium build up on SWG cell?

Just wanted to follow up here, I tried using a popsicle stick but a lot of the gunk was just getting stuck inside the casing around the cell plates, which as far as I can tell is not able to be removed. I found a really great solution though. I used a waterpik to blast out all the buildup and...

Yikes.... how do I clean heavy calcium build up on SWG cell?

Hey all - I have been running a Circupool core35 SWG for ~1.5 years now. Full disclosure, I didn't do any maintenance/checking beyond looking at the lights for the first year. This past May, I took it out and saw there was some calcium (??) buildup on the cell, but much less than you see in...

Cheap muriatic acid drip feeder... would this work?

Ah ok got it - this all makes sense. It's enlightening that even the systems designed for acid injection require regular part replacements. If IntellipH isn't an option (without also replacing my swg) then what other recommended non-DIY (or easy DIY) options are out there for acid injection/dosing?

Cheap muriatic acid drip feeder... would this work?

I'm considering fully automating my pool to include pH management - due to high TA fill water where I live, my pH will always creep up to ~8.2 within a week (from 7.6) unless I add small amounts of acid each day or two. I realize there off-the-shelf systems for this, as well as CO2 injection...
