    Ascorbic acid cleaning questions

Pics of my before/after: Not sure when I'll drain and refill... we are in a wet weather pattern right now, don't feel like risking it yet. Going to raise pH back into range and start working to get FC back up. My dilemma is my CYA is 80-90, so I'm really going to struggle to keep the pH...

    Planning an Ascorbic Acid cleaning

Update - added another pound of AA last night, I'm calling it done and starting to adjust pH back into range tonight. Here are before and after pics of the overall results from 5.4 lbs of AA as seen from my security camera. The camera isn't super sharp, but it picks up the difference in color...

    Ascorbic acid cleaning questions

Just curious - have you ever drained and refilled? Seems like you're keeping MM in business, and it would stand to reason you're just fighting an accumulation that needs to be flushed out of the pool. I started looking at the thread linked in your signature, but it's currently 23 pages long, so...

    Planning an Ascorbic Acid cleaning

What do you base that statement on? I have only found the 0.5-1.0 lb/ 10kgal with some people saying they doubled it. The concern I have is way overshooting on the AA then needing a ton of chlorine to get back in balance. The results are somewhat qualitative anyway, so just wondered where your...

    Ascorbic acid cleaning questions

Well, I'm not a patient person... I updated the status of the cleaning in that other thread, but I have gone ahead and added the 2 quarts of Jack's Magic Pink Stuff since things are looking pretty good and I don't want to risk redeposition of the metals. I'm planning on partially draining and...

    Planning an Ascorbic Acid cleaning

Just updating the status of this activity. Used 2 bags of AA (4.4 lbs) and circulated for about 12 hours, followed with 2 qts of Jack's Magic Pink Stuff this morning... think this looks a lot better, but have bought another bag of AA and plan to do one more dose of it before starting to bring up...

    Ascorbic acid cleaning questions

Hey all... I posted a thread in the wrong spot last week, and an admin moved it here. Not sure if that's the best place, but that's where they put it. I had some questions that didn't get answered, but I forged ahead anyway. I've applied the first round of AA, and have a follow-up question...

    Planning an Ascorbic Acid cleaning

I realize I wrote a lot in that first post, so summarizing my questions in hopes of getting answers. I've added a full quart of Polyquat to my 30kgal pool, and have adjusted the pH and FC to the proper levels to begin the AA treatment later today. Hoping someone has an answer to the first...

    Planning an Ascorbic Acid cleaning

I have read the "How to" thread on ascorbic acid cleaning, and will be attempting that myself soon. I paid someone a couple years ago to clean my pool because it had some stains, and I am pretty sure that's what he used. Like a fool, I didn't ask enough questions and didn't know how much DIY...

    Spa actuator repair - microswitches

Just a quick update - I removed the microswitches from the actuator in question and examined them, as well as the other parts of the actuator. I shorted the leads to each switch and confirmed that the motor operated in both directions. I tested the continuity of each switch and found that they...

    Spa actuator repair - microswitches

Thanks for the tip on the search function... I'm here infrequently enough that I have to re-learn things every time.

    Spa actuator repair - microswitches

I have a set of Compool CVA-24 actuators on our 12-year-old pool, and recently had one of the two quit working completely after our kids used the spa. I took the cover off of it and managed to wiggle the gear enough that it tripped the microswitch and the motor turned on, after which I was able...

Filter leak - questions about life expectancy

Appreciate your concern for safety. With the filter liquid-full, damage from a failure would be minimal... obviously, air can accumulate at the top but there is very little pneumatic energy associated with the small pocket of air that would be present. Over 90% of the vessel's volume is full of...

Filter leak - questions about life expectancy

Questions: 1. How long should a DE filter installed outdoors be expected to last? 2. Why would a rubber O-ring stretch over time? Background: I live in the Houston area, and have a Pentair NFS Plus 60 DE filter which is 11 years old, operating 10 hours per day year-round. It's on an equipment...

    Chlorinator cleaning - need suggestions

I ended up taking the Rainbow to the carwash and used high-pressure water to blast most of the scale off the inside of the feeder for a couple bucks. The entire surface was covered with that yellow-brown stuff. Worked good enough for me... may not get another 11 years out of it, but I...

    Chlorinator cleaning - need suggestions

Since you asked - CYA is 60. Have never had trouble maintaining balanced chemistry until this issue... simple problem, looking for suggestions on a minor aspect of it (i.e. would rather not repeat the scaling, but will be prepared next time regardless).
