Debris at bottom of pool......maybe I have algae?

Holding the shock level at 30 ppm and brushing twice a day for 2 days worked for me. Been “dust” free for over 2 weeks.

Debris at bottom of pool......maybe I have algae?

I've been battling the same thing for the past few weeks. Same looking stuff on the bottom. When I brush it it creates a cloud of dust. Thursday night I super shocked it with liquid chlorine - held FC level at 30 ppm for 2 days now and added same algaecide. Brushed the pool twice a day. It's now...

    Removing ladder/railing for winter

I had trouble with mine last year. This Fall I tried to remove them - tried everything I could think of and I couldn't get them out. I ended up cutting them so I could get the cover on for the Winter. Now I'm getting ready to cut them out with a core drill and replace them with brass or polymer...

Installing SWG. TA is 130. Goal is 60-80. Is TA above 80 a bad thing with a SWG?

Just wondering if it's worth the effort of getting the TA down to 60-80. Thanks.

Switching to SWG this year. Just ordered CircuPool RJ-60.

Just had new liner installed today and it looks great. All new water so will be following the TFP recommendation for SWG water balancing and see how it goes. Will be installing the SWG later this week.

    Blowing the lines....

Good idea on the fitting at the pump drain. I may try it this year. What psi do you have your compressor set at when you blow the lines out? Do you drop it down from the normal 90-100 psi setting?

Thought I'd try cheaper bleach - Food Lion My Essentials instead of Home 360

I'd been using Food lion's Home 360 which labels itself at 8.25% with great results. Food Lion also sells My Essentials brand bleach which is much cheaper but doesn't list a chlorine strength. I figured the chlorine content was probably lower but thought I'd give it a try to see if I could save...

HELP - Does CYA matter if you have a pool liner

Well I haven't been to the pool store since I learned they were feeding me a line of ****. Got me a test kit (K-2006) and have been testing every day. Pool store was showing my CYA at zero. My tests consistently show CYA of 50. I was initially adding about a gallon and a quart of bleach each day...

HELP - Does CYA matter if you have a pool liner

I'm using 3" Omega Chlor Tabs and granular shock (which I dissolve before adding to the pool). Having the water tested again today. I'll see if they have any of the recommended test kits at the store - otherwise I'll buy one online.

HELP - Does CYA matter if you have a pool liner

Thanks Charlie R! I keep shocking and adding chlorine but my chlorine level remains very low. CYA level is ZERO. I will add some stabilizer and see if that helps.

HELP - Does CYA matter if you have a pool liner

I have my water tested at the local pol store. They test for CYA but they tell me just ignore the CYA reading because it doesn't matter since I have a pool liner. I'm having a hard time getting my chlorine level up this year and wondering if my pool store is giving me good advice.

Return line pressure imbalance (and more)

    Makes sense. Thanks.

Return line pressure imbalance (and more)

I have a return line coming from the skimmer and one from the main drain. There is a 2.5 psi pressure difference between the two (with main valve closed, pressure is 14.5 psi; with skimmer valve closed, pressure is 12 psi). Should the pressures be equal? If I close the skimmer valve 1/2 way (45...

    Polaris 9300xi wheels breaking off

I bought a Polaris 9300xi in July 2011 to clean my 16x32 vinyl-lined pool. I've used the cleaner every 2-3 days since then and it does a great job cleaning the pool. Near the end of August one of the wheels broke off where it attaches to the hub leaving about a 1 inch hole in the center of the...
