    Pool building is hurting

I have worked for three. Pools by Nelson in Ripon, CA (imo the best builder in the valley) Merced Pools, in Merced, CA - no longer building. and Trademark Pools, in Salida, CA. (Second, nearly tied with first for best builder in the valley, but shut down for a while due to lack of business)

    Pool building is hurting

They are a bit further south than I am familiar with.. :( I am only familiar with the northern san joaqin valley unfortunately..

    Stuck Slide Backwash Valve?

If this is old equipment it wouldn't hurt to disassemble the valve (most are relatively easy) and replace/relube the o-rings. They can deteriorate, snag on edges, or sometimes even expand and make things far too tight. Lube them with a good silicon based lubricant, like magic lube.

    Pentair Gas heater problem!?

Definitely a possible problem. Replace the sensor and see if the problem continues. It is also possible that something is clogging the heat exchanger and making it overheat. Improper flow could be causing the water to get too hot in the heater, which would trigger the high limit sensor. A...

    Pump is Making Noise

The first thing I notice that could be a problem is the shaft seal. When replacing a motor, always replace the shaft seal. They don't handle being removed and reinstalled well, and could be causing undue friction. They're not too expensive, so it's not a major ordeal. The impeller should be...

    ID pool light/replacement

Yesterday I encountered a pool light that I have not seen before. The fixture had developed a leak years ago, and is now unrepairable. I do not know what kind of fixture it is, or what would fit this niche though. The only print on the light says "CHD Model 100 120v 400W" This is an old...

    Pool building is hurting

Yes, home equity was the big way to finance a pool around here for a long time. Definitely not happening any more. There are so many foreclosures the last year or so that it is scary too. On the street that I live on, the homes were built in 2005-2006, and sold for 450k-550k. Now about 1 in...

    Pool building is hurting

Pool building in our area (North San Joaqin valley, Ca) is hurting very bad. The builder I was working for closed its doors last month. They were a builder with a great rep, a lot of leads coming for sales, but no-one was getting financed. The final straw was having four pools on the board...

Is this plaster colored or worn through?

Plaster will fade from sunlight, which is normal.. This one looks like chemical problems.. Hard to tell from here, but low or high PH can cause major problems. Low PH will eat away at the plaster, which could have caused the pitting and uneven surface. It also looks like there is some...

    If you were me...Equipment ?

You might consider going with a variable speed tri-star pump instead of the intelliflo, it is manufactured by hayward and would go better with your Aqua Logic panel. I really like the goldline controls, it will work well with your solar, aqua-rite chlorinator, and will control your pool and...

Is this plaster colored or worn through?

It looks to me that this is a colored plaster. Or at least it was.. Perhaps a Tahoe Blue or Caribbean Blue, though it is hard to tell for sure.

Intellitouch i5+3 (or other automated control pad)

An automated control system is always easier and cleaner to install during pool construction, but they can definitely be added later. Pentair controls aren't my favorite, but they do work well, and would be a good choice with your Intelliflo. The only difficult part with adding controls...

    Re-plaster pool

The industry has slowed a bit, and operating costs are higher. I would still check around to see if someone else has a better bid just in case. Someone else may be hurting more for business and give you a killer deal.. As for preparing the pool for plaster, we always scar up the old plaster...

Insufficent watefall pump size !!! What size should i use

Sounds like you're going to need something that still performs well with a lot of head. The 'waterfall' specialty pumps are typically designed for low head applications. It sounds like your plumbing is well done, I would look into a 3HP pump, such as the Hayward Tri-Star (My favorite), or a...

Insufficent watefall pump size !!! What size should i use

Carlos - I believe the weir ratings your are seeing are for 'sheer descent' style water features. These have a formed plastic lip that forces the water into a smooth sheet. 20gpm per foot of sheer descent is a typical measurement. For your waterfall, You should be able to get plenty of...

New pool in Princeton, NJ this summer

Sounds like a great pool so far! The only things that caught my attention were the "Jandy colorlogic LED lights" - Hayward makes the ColorLogic line, Jandy makes the Jandycolors lights, which are halogen. I personally prefer the hayward colorlogic, which is what I assume you meant. Second...

    Gunite shell penetrator leaks

They are definitely correct. Gunite is porous, and can let some water through. I have seen small streams coming down the side of a gunited pool, but when the plaster went up, there were no problems. I wouldn't worry about it. When there is a leak in plaster I usually see it around light...

Insufficent watefall pump size !!! What size should i use

If we go by Hayward's specifications, the waterfall pump is a very low head pump. Depending on the distance from the pump to the waterfall, the max rated 1.5hp could put out nearly twice as much water as the waterfall pump. The Less head, the less of a difference though. Cliff is definitely...

    Waterway Jets Roto

I have been using the poly storm jets for years now, and I love them! If one is not locking in, do some process of elimination. Does that jet work in another spot in the spa? Does another jet lock into that specific spot? If the problem follows the jet, there are two little tabs on the body...

Building new pool - Please comment on equipment

Waterbear does bring up an interesting point about the p4 panel. The p4 is a very stripped down version of the goldline panels. I am guessing that the builder is using a p4 here because you have a salt chlorinator and the price difference between a mechanical timeclock + salt chlorinator...

Autopilot and Salt water eating plaster and using acid

You might also want to test the PH and TA of your tap water, before it hits the pool. If the tap water is far off on either of those, it could be throwing the pool off. Not much you can do about it, but it would be good to know.

Building new pool - Please comment on equipment

Other than the pump and filter size, as mentioned above, it looks excellent. The goldline panels are fantastic in my opinion, and the loop loc covers are great as well. Congratulations!

Started adding salt to the new pool today

Looks like you are doing great so far. Keep an eye on your PH though. The Salt chlorinator will tend to make your PH rise, and it is just a little high right now. Test again in 24 Hours as well. Other than that, it's looking wonderful to me.

SWG rough estimates for commercial pool

I would expect that an SWG would work for this just fine. They are a scalable solution. More cells = more chlorine produced, so you can basically figure out how much chlorine you need, and calculate how many cells you need. Most cells have a rating on how many gallons of chlorine they can...

    Scum Line

Looking at your photos as well, it looks like you do not have tile, just an aggregate finish all the way up.. (I could be looking at it wrong) If this is the case, I would stay away from anything acidic, like muriatic acid, or harsh tile cleaners that have acid in them.

High Chlorine Levels w/ low output % on SWG

It may also help to decrease the amount of time that your pump runs. Most SWG's run whenever the pump is circulating water. Less run-time = less chlorine produced. Colder water doesn't need as much circulation either.
